"Steamboat: There's Only One" - 1970s Promotional Footage

This 1970s promotional film highlights: Powder skiing, a narrative history of the founding of Steamboat and Carl Howelsen, the beginning of the annual Winter Carnival, skiing with Billy Kidd, the Steamboat Ski School, Loris Werner, and Hank Kashiwa. Overall, the film shows what skiing at Steamboat Ski Resort was like in the 70s.
The film was produced by Wilson Griak, Inc. and created by LTV Rec. Development, Steamboat Village Resort, and Hart Ski Company. Through a grant awarded to the Colorado Snowsports Museum by IMLS, this 16mm footage was digitized in 2015.

We have a little cabin just outside of Steamboat. We love it..the snow is deep & dry and the people are genuine!

I can't tell you how happy I am to see this. I was a child in the 1970s and I was fortunate enough to be a member of a small ski club in a small ski resort (Guthega) in Australia's snowy mountains. We had this movie on film and we played it every year on club race weekends. I thought Steamboat Springs must be the most magical place on Earth.

In my opinion it is as someone born and raised there, sending love from Florida, I was born in 2000 and seeing this video gave me a whole new respect for the town and those who pioneered it

Skied there many time during the late 60's and 70's. Cold but great snow. Still go there once in a while.
