  • When considering a hysterectomy, many women have questions about the (unwanted) effects the procedure could have on their body.
    Questions like:
    • Will a hysterectomy send me into menopause?
    • Will it cause me to gain weight?
    • Will I experience bladder prolapse?
    • And will a hysterectomy ruin my sex life?
    Today, I’m checking in with my patient Michelle - a year after her hysterectomy. Don’t miss her candid responses about how her life has changed after the procedure!

    My gynaecologist said women who have a hysterectomy but keep their ovaries go into menopause 2-3 years earlier than they would have without the hysterectomy. This is because blood flow to the ovaries is greatly reduced after hysterectomy.

      @Violet Govender my spouse can't live without it, so divorce is in the cards.
      I also deal with ADHD -Self diagnosed,I was born with congenital hypothyroid, and I come from too many years of narcissistic abuse and I'm just tired mentally and physically. I've got auto immune issues and fight or flight doesn't turn off. Then the symptoms of surgical menopause added in, ugh. I have insomnia and it's 430am. It feels like his dick is more important in the relationship, even if my body parts have been carved out. He feels betrayed, told me last week that I might as well have cheated on him like his other two wives. So, maybe that's my cue to let go even more. I don't trust him with my emotions from other issues. Plus he said, "maybe you just can't give me what I need at this time in my life"... there isn't enough info out there for us surgical menopause people. I want to start a podcast and get more out there.

    I had a hysterectomy with ovaries taken also. I had horrible hot flashes for years. It was 30+ years ago. I still cannot tolerate any temps over 72° & if I'm walking or moving around, 65°. Ruined my sex life. I regret that I had to get it done! 😢

    I used to be hyper sexual in my marriage. Had a total hysterectomy a year and 4 mts ago and now taking low estrogen pills, 2 mg. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO DESIRE DESIRE for sex nor masturbating!!! NONE! Maybe it's all in my mind but I could go the rest of my life without it. I don't know what happened but it ruined me. Having no menstrual cycle is HEAVEN but I miss sex or even the desire for it 😳😲😓

      Thanks for being a subscriber! This is a great point. Women who have a total hysterectomy (including ovary removal) will experience drastic hormonal changes that directly affect sex drive. The studies on sexual satisfaction what we refer to here only pertain to women who KEEP their ovaries during a hysterectomy. This is a critical distinction, and we appreciate your comment

      The uterus is definitely a sex organ. That is where sexual feelings occur. Thanks for your honesty, so many women will not admit this.

    Two years TAH BSO and estradiol gel working great and no prolapse. The recovery time for open abdominal is much longer, but the surgery was well worth it.

    Doctor, you mentioned in this video that everyone can get s robotic hysterectomy. I am wondering when is the uterus too large for this type of hysterectomy?

    • @anikluv7732

      I just had a robotic hysterectomy three weeks ago tomorrow. My uterus was 4x’s the normal size. It was so large that it was under my rib cage so my incision is just higher up.

    I went in menopause . Full blown at 33. He was to take my ovaries because I had endometriosis since 13. Very painful periods, I missed school and Ledford precipitous strength meds to help. I had cysts rupture many diff x. Painful and startling. I told him I've never snore sex I had 5 kids by this time it always like I was stabbed in my uterus. Said he would take a look did ultrasound after Exam showed pics and where endometriosis was in there he said it isn't too much but we will look. I told him it felt tilted like something wasn't right and that if that's how it felt women were lying about how much they liked it. It felt like stands in the back of my uterus. I had surgery which was suppose to be my ovaries and that was all. He took everything but stated I was right my uterus and cervix was ate up with cysts and endometriosis. They had to take it all my tires as well. Have you know I just had a. C-section and tubal not even yrs purple. I had 4 natural births 1 c-section cause they meet me lay in labor all day I was in pain and I just was like ya ain't sending me home get her out. Anyhow he told me my uterus was tilted like 15 percent and no wonder I didn't enjoy intimate moments of use tampon Comfortably.he left ovaries even though they were serious enough for the hysterectomy to be initiated hoping they would produce estrogen. They were laying dormid. No prescription hormones replacement. My meds he wanted us to pick up meds have you know I just had invasive surgery but wanted me to pick up 90 to 120 go back and 3 days and get the refill like what? What pharmacy in their right mind is doing that also what person can read their chicken scratch coming out of A invasive surgery w script that says pick up in 3 days but then because you didn't and because you know pharmacy have rules on controlled substances you are basically told f off not my problem your fault like for real. That wasn't in the postoperative the appt before nothing not even in discharge papers. Now I've been laying for a couple yrs new cause it is easy worse I need the ovaries that were suppose to be put out out. Oh and Then laughed cause i was going through menopause and asked we didn't give you any replacement? Prescribed me some 3x didn't work then gave me a sample that worked said he would get it approved since i tried others i had tried enough to get approved. My ex drove did increase like crazy.

      It sounds like there were unexpected complications during the hysterectomy procedure, impacting your overall well-being. The miscommunication about prescription medication and the difficulties you encountered with the pharmacy add an additional layer of frustration to your experience. It's crucial to have clear communication and support, especially during postoperative care.

    I had one at age 38. I’m 52 now. I was great for 2 days…lol then I was crying and a mess lol…estrogen plummet. I got a b12 shot and estrogen. Low dose. And resume all functions. No difference at all in the sack. So no worries ladies!!! You can still achieve the O. Best thing I ever did was get rid of the uterus. I do have a question….I had one oophorectomy…I was told the ovary will die off is that true??? Can you explain how that works illustrate it and long term….

    • @dkendall96
      @dkendall96 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I took estrogen for a short time and stopped and was fine until 50….hot flashes. Estrogen for a short time now I’m fine. Hot flashes are no fun at all but you deal.

    • @DoctorRich
      @DoctorRich  ปีที่แล้ว

      The average age of menopause is 51.3 years old. Patients who are left with a single ovary should continue to produce hormones until this time. The typical menopause range is 45-55 years old. Women will 'run out of eggs' to ovulate at this age and the ovary will stop producing any significant hormones at that time. Hot flashes and other 'vasomotor' symptoms will continue for several years.
