Thanks so much for this. Looking to buy my first van, trying to decide between the diesel and gasoline options. Did you find there to be any difference between the two. And what are your thoughts on the Freightliner Sprinter
As a FedEx courier I’ve driven all three of the vans mentioned and the best one in my opinion is the Mercedes, hands down. It rides the best, has the best outward visibility, good mirrors, awesome camera suite, comfortable seats, good acceleration and braking and it hauls a lot. The flat floor between the seats is also a plus. When I get in the Sprinter and drive it, it feels immediately comfortable and drives smaller than it is. The RAM has poor outward visibility due to thick a pillars and it feels like your sitting on top of the interior not in it. The door openings also feel small. Acceleration is good and the shifts are imperceptible. Feels like it has good power. The sliding door latch in the inside is stupid small and hard to use. The Ford is my second favorite with good acceleration, handling, and steering. It feels more sporty than the Mercedes in these areas. It does seem to run out of steam under heavy acceleration though. Outward visibility is good and the mirrors are ok. The sliding door is a bit short and I’ve hit my head coming out a couple times. Entry/egress isn’t the greatest as the steering column cover is a knee banger. Getting between the seats isn’t great due to a bump in the floor. The transmission can be a little jerky sometimes which causes me to think it won’t last long. The Ford is a solid second, in my opinion.
The maintenance cost of the Sprinter and fewer places to get it worked on has been stressing me out. I appreciate you breaking down why you bought it and how much it cost. The fact that it was cheaper than the Transit is wild!
upgrade your headlights with ultrabrite LED's, get ceramic pads. if your carrying a lot of heavy loads pay a little more attention to your suspensions conditions. also wash your undercarriage if driving through salty conditions.
Strong! I have a 2022/170” Mercedes Sprinter named Trooper. Love this van! Also, your van can actually haul 4 pallets if they are the regular 48X40 wooden pallets. Have the forklift driver load them in sideways. Safe Travels!!!
I bought a Mercedes Sprinter 2500 new and you can get a gas version. It is the same engine as the diesel with a turbo. I had a diesel before and was not a big fan of all the anti-pollution requirements. It was a 2009 3500 with the 3.0 V6…and it had issues with turbos and DPF Exhaust Filters. It cost me $10K in additional repairs in the 3 years I owned it. Traded it with 138k miles and bought a new Ford Transit 250 with a 3.7 gas V6….and have had no issues with the driveline. The Ford now has 112k miles, and never has gone into Limp Mode. My issues with the Sprinter are as follows. With 16k miles, it has gone into Limp Mode three times. Next visit to the dealer I will have them diagnose the reason. The back doors have no stops on them like the Ford. With the Ford you open the doors straight back, and they will not open all the way to the sides unless you depress a button. The Ford rear doors can also be locked in the open position. The Mercedes rear cargo doors have resistance built into the hinges….but on a windy day they will blow all the way open, or all the way shut. So if you are parked next to some other vehicle on a windy day, you need to make sure that an errant door doesn’t swing all the way and make damaging contact. Another issue with the Mercedes is the side mirrors. On mine they are standard sized, with manual retract, and are power adjustable. At speed they both vibrate severely to the point that you cannot detect what is coming up behind you. Namely law enforcement….as I like to drive a little over the limit. With the Mercedes it’s just a blur…..whereas with the Ford I can clearly see make and model and whether I need to slow down. Please note that the Mercedes drives smoothly with only 16k miles…but the mirrors are shaky at speeds of 55 and up. One thing I like about the Mercedes is you sit higher up compared to the Ford, but the drawback to that is loading items in and out at the higher height can be challenging, not to mention getting in and out yourself. I would suggest going to dealerships and climb in and out to see if you prefer one over the other. I am 6’1” and weight 200LBs… and must say getting out of the Sprinter van is like you have to drop out of or hop up into. One other quirk is the pushbutton start, as a few times I have pushed the button and nothing. The key fob wasn’t recognized. All you need to do is place your fob in the slot down on the area of the engine cover between the seats and presto….she starts right up! The Ford, never an issue as you just turn the old school key. The Mercedes also has that divider bar or trim piece dividing the glass on the drivers door. Unfortunately where I like to set my seat, that bar or trim piece blocks a significant portion of the viewing area of my drivers side mirror. Not a good thing at all. Also the way the dash is designed or laid out…there is significant glare or reflection of the dashboard lighting and instrumentation at night onto the drivers side mirror making it very difficult to safely use the mirror quickly what with the up and down window bar and the instrumentation glare. The Ford does not have those issues, as there is no vision blocking bar or instrumentation glare. I think to correct Mercedes needs to relocated the mirror location on the outside, namely move them forward. Kudos to Mercedes for the excellent ride performance and handling, as well as the interior. I opted for the leatherette fabric with power driver and passenger seats with heat function. It is by far more comfortable than the Ford interior of my 2018 model…but again…the Ford interior is just basic, and not upgraded. All in all the Mercedes is a very nice vehicle, and would buy again. You just have to weigh what is best for you in making a decision. That is my input on the Mercedes 2500 High Roof 170” WB with 4 cylinder turbo gas van.
You seem to be the most informative gig app channel. Giving real use case footage. So I thought I would share a recent Roadie experience that you might want to alert others about. I put in an offer to deliver a Delta gig. I was only 10 minutes away when I was approved and I accepted. I got my parking ticket, parked and swiped that I had arrived. I made it all the way into the terminal and could see the Delta luggage customer service desk when I got a notification. I looked and it said Delta had cancelled the delivery. They gave me $4 for showing up but that doesn't cover the $5 parking fee. Tried the text support feature and got told I could submit the receipt in the app. After re-explaining and telling them there is no option, they finally had a look at the gig and told me that they can't reimburse because I didn't complete the pick up. Asked for the supervisor and was told they could have one call me. So I called the support line and got the same run around. My advice is for everyone to go on strike and not go for the Delta gigs. I have only tried 4 and have had problems 3 of those times.
Thank you!! That was great information for anyone who takes those orders. I would never have known that could happen if you didn't share your experience!!
brakes are easy to do. DIY just make sure to turn the rotors and use a good quality pad. I have a rattle on the drivers side door that is annoying. Dealer fixed it once under warranty but noise is back
You can install this yourself like I did with my car I use for gig apps full time. Advanced Auto Parts or any part store near you should have Xeon XE lights. They are ultra bright and saved me multiple times from deer at night.
MB you can drive that into the ground and it still run good And don't drive with your light bar on unless you are on the road by yourself thank you light bars are for off road use only
Happy New Year CCC. I own a MB Sprinter 144wb van. It's an outfitted van is used by Airstream model Nineteen. I'm not affiliated with Mid City Engineering but if you want to use the 360 camera at all speeds, consider purchasing the OEM 360 Degree Camera On-Demand for 2019 - 2024 Sprinter (907) OBD Programmer. This is easy to install and I use my 360 camera all the time, especially when towing my kayak trailer. My van is also diesel and 4x4 (4wd) so my repairs will be more than the 2wd gas which sucks but it is what it is.
I rented one on TURO, after seeing your videos to get a good drive. I drove from Michigan to West Virginia, those mountains 😮, I love the way it drove and yes the assist feature was scary but through them mountains.....baby I couldn't have done it without it! I was glad I went with it, I can't go back to Uhual now. And with Turo it was cheaper. I want to but 1 so bad now😅
Good day ,Happy New Year 🎉,Luv your channel n your content,i missed out Q&A but I wanted to know ,is your Sprinter Van gas or diesel? Keep up the channel lets get those 100k 👍🏽n look forward as a fan n a Gig 🏄♂️ surfer and let’s make that dollar dollar 💵 bill yaa yeah
Not gonna lie, I was deadset on buying a Ford Transit and converting it, I actually love it more in many ways, especially the taller roof than even the high version of the Sprinter. My biggest issue with the Sprinter though is I did not want to go diesel at all. I wanted to stay with regular gas. But after watching tons of videos, I came to the conclusion that I will be less likely to be harassed or judged, by cops & noisy people, if I drive a Mercedes around, park, etc. Pricing it out just from the websites, the Mercedes is way more (of course dealership is another story). But I feel like I'd save money in the long term by worrying less about citations and all that.
If that’s the 3.0 diesel enjoy the emissions issues. That’s why a lot of us get the Transit for hauling bikes to races. The 3.5T is alot easier to live with and can tow a 5,000 support trailer with ease. Your Sprinter is sweet looking though. The 360 is the shit
I have an E Transit and am thinking about switching it out for the new E Sprinter. Almost double the range on Mercedes! It carries 1000lbs less because of the bigger battery tho
@carsandcribs6159 ok thanks sir so is mine I was gonna get the 6 cylinder diesel but changed me mine like you did not want those blue Def problems and cloud thats what I call mine because it's white lol but that 4 cylinder turbo 9 speed Trans runs so good with a lot of power I use super unleaded because of the turbo just my choice! Lol happy new year sir!

I hope they improved quality in these. I own a 2012 diesel and a 2019 gas. Both have had major problems and i have spent over 80 thousand on repairs to the two.
Sorry man, you did a great job but my experience with these vans is nothing but horrible. My new 2023 170 ext has been at the shop for 3 months now. Seems like Mercedes Benz is having issues with discontinued parts, they cannot fix certain problems. I hired a lawyer due to the lack of response from MB and now we are asking to for a buying back. If you in the market for a van go Ford transit, parts and services everywhere.
All good except I HATE the sound effects. Why do people think they need that? Attention spans? If someone has the interest in one of these they are not usually the "circus sound effects" type of human.
Don’t Forget To Smash That Like Button!

Check if they have fluid in your area, they come in handy with certain jobs.

Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉🎉
For me my order is Ford Transit, Mercedes, then the pro master. Drove all of them at work. Does ford transit get any warranty?
I would think the Transit would come with a warranty at first also.
How about knocking noise
Is that 4 cylinder 2.1 liter turbo or 6 cylinder gas?
4 cylinder.

Hi can you recommend diesel or gas, thanks
i heard that light comes on in the dashboard all the time
You are actually correct. The light that comes on due to weather is the refill coolant light, it does it because it’s sensitive to the cold.
144 sprinters is my future van 💯🎊
sorry to hear bro.. I was like you this year until BOOM propeller shaft broke and MB cannot repair.. Good luck with MB!
Super good video… 🤝🤝🤝
Maybe is doing a Regen.
Thanx very knowledgeable ❤
If you didn’t have the bulk head do you think you could fit one more pallet. I see some folks say they can fit 4 48x48 pallets

Hey is the column shifter better than the console one
I'm new to your channel here. Was just curious. I'm not sure if you went over if it was gas or diesel? I have a few here where im located and was wondering which one you would pick if you had the option?
Mine is gas. If you are staying local gas is better in my opinion. Less headache not having a def system to worry about.

Does it have a governor?
Great presentation!!!! Happy new year!!

Thank you, finally a video with a short intro, you didn’t say, “ It’s your boy…” and didn’t show us boring footage of you working.
Im looking into a 2023 but my local MB dealers are saying servce A is $700 and service B is $1100.. wtf. For either gas or diesel. Crazy
