    Welcome to Germany my friend. Hope you had a good time with us and you also liked the landscape. I also drive a Honda CB650R, also in matt jeans blue. On extras I installed a pair of crash pads and side stand reinforcements from SW-Motech. Original Honda is tank and tail bag and the handle heater. The short tail is from R&G. As a subscriber, I naturally follow your videos in relation to the CB650R, especially your Akrapovic videos were great. And the CB650R as a touring model is a great idea. Wish you all the best, good luck and stay healthy.
    Personally, I'm not that good at English, so I used Google Translate. So if there are grammatical errors here ... it wasn't me ;-).

    I can't imagine anyone saying they didn't think much of Germany. Their roads are flawless. I was waiting for the inevitable road closure though! Interested in the hotel as I'd like to try somewhere new. The next best thing to a ‘Ring trip: watching someone else's! Can't wait for the next episode.

    Great video! Thanks for it. You helped me bridge the time between ordering my own CB 650r and getting it. You were my witness who confirmed that this city bike was capable of crossing seas and stretching long distances from country to country. I got mine exactly 3 months ago now. And today, it has 14,000 km on the clock. Oh yes, it is not here for a cozy garage! It has two major functions for me: Training me for the silk road and helping me being quick in my every day commutings in Istanbul. Well, I bought it in Berlin, where I normally live. Then trained myself for long distance rides. It is my first bike. And my riding license is not yet a year old. In order to bring it to Istanbul, I did some training routes, e.g., from Berlin to Zurich and return (2,250 km). And some three weeks ago, I brought it over here through Austria, Italy and Greece (3,400 km one way). Watching your video many times, I got the impression that it is a reliable motorcycle. And I can confirm this impression by now. Every km of its 14,000, it was nothing less than perfect: reliable, smoothly running, not the slightest worries, relatively powerfull, good acceleration, fast (I ran it up to 180 km/h so far), nimble in Istanbul's traffic, stable in crosswinds, safe in fast twisties, and easy in quick emergency maneuvers (I trained them in 9 safety trainings this year alone - and needed them several times in practice on Mediterranean roads). Well, it still will not be my bike for the silk road but it will train me a fair lot on my way to it.
    By the way, I like also many of your other videos! Well done! Looking forward to future ones!

    When I saw the video, I thought you were out riding last week! I moved to Germany for the roads and countryside (and work). Soooo smoooooth. No bumps. No potholes. Amazing. Alas we now have a virus and lockdown!
    You ride well, good position.
    A benefit of riding here is, unlike (south) England, the roads are a little wider and your views of the road ahead much further. Hang back a little more from the slow cars/vans and you'll be able to see past the vehicle to overtake much quicker. I prefer views of the open road ahead to an exhaust pipe / rear bumper.
    I recommend frequent breaks, every 60..90 mins, primarily to rest and recharge your brain, but also your arse (in your case) and to take on water. You'll then enjoy the next section even more, feeling refreshed. It's not macho doing a 12 hour 700km day - stay fresh, stay safe and enjoy the ride.
    I'm not a fan of riding with anything on my back in case the worst happens; so I travel light and use luggage, especially for a one week adventure tour.
    Negatives?
    With your helmet camera, I felt a little ill watching the video as you frequently looked left and right. But there are also limitations with a fixed bike-mounted camera. Looking forward to the next episodes.
    I'm surprised you didn't convert your speedo into kph while you're in Europe?!
    Also a few scenes riding without gloves!
    I can recommend west Germany; my mate and I did a lovely ride north to south through the Moselle valley, following the rivers - absolutely beautiful. Also the Alps, not only for the mountain views, but again the lakes and rivers and beautiful countryside. Top Riding. We were too busy enjoying ourselves to take videos, but had a great time.
    Finally, you sound just like me - and we have similar thoughts - freaky! Let me know if you (anyone) is in the area for more riding!

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for the comments. Helmet cams make some people feel a little ill, just one of those things. I didn't convert the speedo as I was actually using the TomTom for speed as it's far more accurate. Yep, riding without gloves from the parking area to the train, all of about 100 meters, plus I had to keep getting my boarding ticket out. The days mileage wasn't macho, it was required and I've done it before, albeit on a much more comfortable bike! I'm looking at changing my bike next year to something else so we'll see what takes my fancy. Alps would be a tremendous trip for the views. Hoping to do another tour next year with Rob. We'll see! Cheers.

      Randy Shoemaker My son has a classic Honda 650 and it is quite adequate. I had a Virago 535 which was whiny and a bit uncomfortable for my height after an hour. I also had an ST1100 which was sublime but a bitch to work on. My son recently tested a Kawasaki Z900 and he was thoroughly impressed. I’m in favor of the Z900RS. Although I have seen many favorable videos of the 650 Vulcan S.

    Eggsellunt!
    Saw the notification on my phone - rushed down and turned on the PC. The trip I want to do on the bike I want next.
    Tons and tons and tons of questions. But first: Is the Tomtom a bike version? Is it waterproof?
    Butt comfort on a long trip is something that is quite high on my list of important issues.
    Waiting with baited breath for the next leg.
    Accomodation, meal and non-fuel costs might be an idea to include, not an exact number, just a rough line in the sand.
    Compliments on a very interesting 25min video, with good editing and picture quality.

The 650 may feel a bit cumbersome restricted but I've not tested one myself. I think if you want to keep one bike after restriction it's a good way to go as you'd love the extra power once it's derestricted.

    Great vid Dan. Love the 650r and love riding in germany. I'm definitely after a more butt friendly seat for mine. I did cornwall and back (from east anglia) last year and ended up having to stop every hour or so to stop my arse falling off! Considering a Bagster, but £280 is a lot of cash and I'm not sure how much better it would be.

    On very many parts of German motorway speed limit is 120km/h.

    Great video! Having just bought the cb650r 2021 - same color - I wonder how much of a difference the relative small windshield does? As I drove my bike home from the dealer, 250km on motorway with 110-140km/hour I definately felt the wind. Especially from say 125km/h - so, does the small screen actually help?

    Great stuff, just discovered this little series. I have the 2016 CB650F and rode from London to Fort William to climb Ben Nevis and then rode back the next day. 1150 miles in essentially two days. NEVER AGAIN. Hey Dan! Great video mate! I've got a 150cc R15, my first bike, which I love for it's handling and flick-ability. I've been using it for 6 years now, and have got used to it's quiet stock exhaust note. I was thinking of buying a CB650R for touring purposes. Although the inline-4 scream is what's extremely attractive to me, I was wondering whether it would be too much for tours and the constant scream would turn out to be annoying for long rides. Earplugs would be an option, but why get an inline-4 to only then use earplugs? Since I've no experience riding screaming machines, would love your thoughts on this.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's fine provided you have a quieter exhaust than the Akra without db killer! Earplugs are a must for me because it's not the exhaust noise but the high frequency wind noise. It can damage your hearing permanently which I've done.
