Hmmm, might be true. But I think why not used a nuclear weapons to stopped Apophis or used a nuclear X-ray pulse to part of an asteroid to nudge it onto a different trajectory, it is possible. It'll be saved us.
its not going to hit us. it will get close, yes. but with all of the date we have on it now, its confirmed that it will not. even if it did, its not big enough to wipe us all out! the most it would do is take out a county (no, i didn't say country. its county) the problem would be making sure that the area of impact is completely evacuated in time.
