London is our favourite city to visit. We have another visit planned starting October 1st for 2 weeks and this sort of video is exactly what we like. Local knowledge showing us the great nooks and crannies with a pint at the end of the bread crumb trail. Thanks for doing these brilliant videos. Very well done.
The Nell Gwynne was our favorite. Thanks for putting out all these videos….my wife and I visited 5 pubs from your lists during our trip to London this weekend from Florida. The Ships Tavern had good food. Steak Sandwich- thumbs up. So many great beers to try. Brixton Pale Ale was the best Cheers, Phil and Cate Jax Bch, FL
I worked in Long Acre in the late 80s and The Lamb and Flag was just a few yards away through an alleyway. It was very handy on a wet day. At that time the landlady was quite daunting (I suppose she needed to be). The real ale was always top-notch and we generally had a piping-hot Cornish pasty to go with it. One of my favourite Covent Garden pubs is The Nags Head in Floral Street, which is a rare McMullen pub in London. I do remember 'The Harp' being called 'The Welsh Harp' in those days.
Thanks John! You know I don't think I've ever been to the Nag's Head. I thought I had that area pretty well covered over the years and somehow a little gem like that slips through the cracks! I must correct that when I'm next in that part of town.
Another heartwarming video in terms of architecture. It doesn’t look like they’re smashing it all up round there. Don’t know any of those pubs and the only one I can think of near there is that Sherlock Holmes pub close to Charing Cross Station. Great video with Allotment Fox style ending!
Oh I secretly quite like the Sherlock Holmes pub! Particularly after watching a 1950s Pathé video of it and seeing that the charmingly naff recreation of Holmes and Watson's rooms at 221B Baker Street date back to at least that era.
From what I remember, back in the days when Covent Garden was a market, a couple of pubs were allowed to stay open until 4-30 AM for benefit of the porters. This was because unloading the lorries of produce from the countryside couldn't begin until midnight. They worked through the night and trading the following day ceased at 11-00 AM.
Wiki says the Lamb And Flag is the heraldic symbol of the Middle Temple, part of the English Bar of barristers. But I assume they got it from the Knight's Templar during the Crusades.
Ahhh The Harp, my Favorite London Pub ... The only problem with Harveys is its difficult to keep, When its good you can't beat, but I've had so many dodgy pints of it that I steer clear
Nice one Tweedy. l think the Harp is a gem of a pub. An acquaintance told me it was his aunt who had it in recent years: The lrish family you allude to. From County Mayo l believe. Good luck with your pub quests.
In the time description you’ve got the Lemon Flag for the lamb and Flag and then the Melbourne Tavern for the Nell Gywnne. Jesus, and you want subscribers😂. Details boy, details. They must have taught you that at your public school

Thanks David for those kind words, really appreciated!
Make sure to visit Highgate cemetery
@@stephfoxwell4620 Great tip. We did visit it one gray, rainy day and it was time well spent.

@@TweedyPubs yes it’s great! It’s fabulous that the rubbish exhibit has survived.
Good content again thank you 👍

Was pretty run down and empty come evening.
Loving the channel.. Visited two of these public houses fairly recently "The Lamb and Flag" and "The Cross Keys" not impressed with either...

I think it is that lady from County Mayo we have to thank for what remains a cracking boozer today!
@@TweedyPubs her name was Binnie Walsh. A nice lady but she has passed away.
I think "The King's Arms" in Long Acre closed down around 1999 and is now a lady's fashion shop.
Watched a few of these now, what time of day do you visit? whenever I go to London the pubs are completely mobbed!
Been in Harp n Lamb & Flag, good boozers, loving ya channel...the hoppy traveller put me on to ya👍
Thanks Dave! ....and thanks for the tip off about the Hoppy Traveller! I went over to his channel and said hello.
IIRC, Fullers bought Harp for £10 million, whenever that was.
Soz mate I forgot to press the sub button😂 done it now😊👍
Thanks Dave! I hope it doesn't turn out to be a disappointment!
@TweedyPubs in total I've only ever spent 5 days in London and got alot of pubs ticked off...so I'll gradually go through your vids, cheers mate👍🍺
@@SlurpyDave254 I can't think of a better way to spend time in London than touring the pubs!
