Good job Tony. The plot is looking so good. I mean yes, it's winter and all. But I've been gone for awhile. Happy to see you and all. Looking forward too seeing all the gardening going on in your neck of the woods.
Glad to see there wasn't much damage with you. Not too bad in my immediate locality, although there was some property damage elsewhere and some trees were toppled nearby.. A couple of shrubs were blown over at home and my free-standing climbing-rose trellis was blown apart but the individual parts were largely intact. I fixed that up this morning. However the next door neighbour's 6 foot high wooden fence was down. On my veg plot, my wheelbarrow had been blown eight feet away from where I had left it. The front was blown off one of my compost bins, but to fix it was simply a case of screwing back the screws in the hooks that hold it on, which had been pulled out. The fronts are just pallets cut in half and held in place with hooks and eyes, which makes it quick and easy to lift the fronts off and put them back again. I haven't used pond liner on my shed roof, but I did use it to line the inside of my (pallet-constructed) compost bins.
Total Disaster in my area of west Scotland. Every road blocked, power down, esplanade washed away, almost every roof with bits missing. Neighbors green houses flat.
I lived in the west of Scotland and remember the storm in 1969. Chimney stacks down and trees down all over the place. Yesterday was nothing. They kept going on about hurricane force winds WRONG. They were wind gusts. Hurricane wind are constant winds in excess of 70mph. Yesterday the constant wind speed was 39mph which is a gale.
My mam was telling me about this one today think she was 12 at the time ,reckon about 5 ppl lost their lives in that storm ,we're west coast too (Greenock).
The wind took the roof off the gable end & flattened the greenhouse, here in the Scottish borders. There's alot of clearing up to do. Glad things weren't too bad for you. Your dog is having the time of his life, he's lovely. Take good care 😊
Good to see everything is fine. You need to get yourself down to Screwfix, next time they've got a sale on and get yourself a toolkit. (Forge Steel Tool Kit 22 Piece Set (637GC)) Full price a bit expensive, but they do it a half price sometimes, useful to throw in the back of the car when you're going to the allotment. It's basic, and you can add stuff as you need more tools.
Power was out for 2days here in Ireland, 140mph gusts, no heating, no phone signal, fence down at the from of the house, wood shed in pieces, new scene fence is a little bent out of place but not bad, easy fix, some guttering and fascia is down, pergola is good, could have been a lot worse. Trees down around the fields so I will have plenty of rings cut for the garden paths this year 😂 At least the gas hob meant we had tea ❤
Hi Tony, my hubbys greenhouse door was blown off and two panes of glass too. My polytunnel was ok. Not too bad for us but other plot holders had worse. Prince is having a great time 😊 good job shovelling your manure. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
We weren’t too bad in Bristol, wind was a bit blowy overnight but calmed down quite quickly. My husband on the other hand was visiting his parents in Northern Ireland and his ferry home was cancelled so he had to stay an extra day. Trees were over and all the shops and businesses were closed until about 3pm
Nothing here on the East Coast of England next to the sea, yesterday no wind and today is lovely and sunny it’s 3:35 pm and the sun is just starting to go down. Yesterday I turned over the compost bags and purchased my seed potato’s, they have been chitting away nicely in the sun today.
I thought there would be a shake up in your weather after the south had a foot of snow and the north had severe cold and no snow. It took about 3 days to make it across the pond. Apparently it was a bomb cyclone and lucky it just clipped the northern part. Cat Trampoline storm. I was watching it on TH-cam. I can’t imagine tiles from the rooftops there flying off-Yikes! Glad you fared well.
Someone is missing a shed roof, it slammed into my patio doors! I've been 3 doors left and 3 doors right and nobody claiming it. I'm in Co.Durham and it was brutal.
We had it bad, I'm in the west coast of Scotland and I lost my polytunnel. Hubby and I were out in the storm holding on to it until it almost took off so we had to rip the cover off, it was horrendous. Yesterday we did the clean up and tried to save as many plant and baby fruit tree as possible which I had into the polytunnel to protect them, oops 😂. Oh well, it's stuff at the end of the day but I confess I shed a little tear.
The worst storm recorded in the West of Ireland, we've no power, no water, no heating and a covering of snow in the morning! Thank God we are all safe and well, we are due to have power restored by the 28th according to the electric board
The wind Pretty much destroyed all the tunnels apart from a few lucky survivors in our Edinburgh plot.hurricane force winds for most of the day. Looking to buy a new tunnel now.
So glad no damage done on yer plot Tony, just looked in on Marc’s allotment and there was a bit of a carnage, although Marc seems to have escaped most of the storm, happy fence building when it happens, charge yer batteries 😂😂🌹🌹
"Me own personal rotavator" 😂 How does he go on clay soil? Any good? Can I maybe borrow him for a few hours? Lol On a more serious note, my heart goes out to everyone dealing with storm damage. I can't imagine having to clean up the shattered and tattered remains on top of having to buy again. *HUGS* ❤ Here in Australia, it's just the usual hot summer, so slathering up with sunscreen and getting out into the garden to try and make progress on the ever-growing weeds, while checking impatiently to see if any of the tomatoes have started ripening.
Didn't get anything, beautiful sunny day, made the most of it with warehouse shutters fully open to enjoy that sun light! Hopefully those who actually got the brunt of it, didn't have too much damage.
In Gateshead it got worse as the day got on, I had only put a cheap plastic greenhouse up on Tuesday then the weather warning came after I put it up had to try and secure it as best I could on the day. Hope it's still there when I go back up 😂
I was watching you put the wee greenhouse up the day before the warnings and was thinking the whole time it's never gonna get through the storm 😬 I'm hoping it made it through OK! We had it bad here in parts of Glasgow everywhere closed for the day a huge 80-100ft evergreen tree came down across from my house ,scary stuff but no one was injured thankfully 😊
@angelamcghee4489 I wouldn't have put it up if I knew about the warnings was gutted when they did. I went up twice on Friday to sort it I haven't been up since I really should. It wasn't that bad here seen a few trees when down but we have had worse. I did see that Scotland was having a bad time of it glad nobody got hurt
@@JacobsonFamilyAllotment I'll be keeping an eye out for your update 🤞hope it survived it ,I don't have a plot just a normal sized garden and only started learning to grow things last year and added a few beds with a few more to add this year and hopefully mabye a pollytunnel or greenhouse, 😊
It was horrendous here in Seghill , my 3 dogs wouldn't go out and the wind was on the back door making it hard to close I had to push my weight against it to close it. Large pots full of compost blew across the yard and we had to move the bins as well. Other neighbours had damaged to sheds and greenhouse's. One neighbours blue bin landed on top of his car . trampolines were blown upside down.
Tony...... Why not spend the money and build a new raised bed next to the broken fence and then screw the old broken fence to the back of the new raised bed so you get more value for your money
Hi Tony my brother had a Doberman in the 1070s he married very young the dog was named Duke he used to guard his then very young wife until he came home, so before mobile phones she sometimes was there for 6 hours, the dog knew she was not a good person, they divorced a couple of years later. Duke went on to be a police dog in the metropolitan police , think he safes my brother from years of agro 😂😂
I was waiting after you put the batten on to discover the dog was still inside

that teaches us all that every fence should be built so the wind can blow through.
What a gorgeous dog❤
Total Disaster in my area of west Scotland. Every road blocked, power down, esplanade washed away, almost every roof with bits missing. Neighbors green houses flat.
I'm sorry.
So sorry for you 😢
Horrible to hear - so sorry
@ thanks Tony, No one hurt the main thing. But everyone I know have had an issue with above, I’m in my sixties and have never seen anything like it.

We was fine didn’t notice any wind lv Irene 😘 xx

Absolutely wild in Gateshead. House not far has lost its whole roof. Ended up in Golf course
You and JB need to start the Acme handyman business 😂

Love watching your dog bounding around. Our husky used to do that ❤
Glad there wasn't any damage 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I lost all the ridge tiles on my dormer window. I’m in North West Wales in the Amber warning area. Luckily my neighbour is a roofer.
Lost three panes of glass from allotment glasshouse roof (Wallsend) No sign of them and no broken glass, so goodness knows where they ended up!
That's a worry!!

We had a foot of snow‼️⛄️🇨🇦
😮
You could cut a notch in the wood where the handle is something to think about

Here in Ireland, it was BAD, especially in the west. 8000 properties without electricity. I only lost the top of my garden table 😮
Less wind in the NW
All ok here not to bad weather

and here I am in Canada and haven't seen a snowflake yet this winter. Lots of rain but no snow. I hope you have a secondary source of heating.
Houses lost their walls, crazy.
The wind Pretty much destroyed all the tunnels apart from a few lucky survivors in our Edinburgh plot.hurricane force winds for most of the day. Looking to buy a new tunnel now.
Ah that’s horrible

For the batten, make a slot for it to drop into, out of wood or scrap metal. So you don't have to drill your way in and out every time.
Top tip
I love that your family has long tailed dobermans with the floopy ears
In Gateshead it got worse as the day got on, I had only put a cheap plastic greenhouse up on Tuesday then the weather warning came after I put it up had to try and secure it as best I could on the day. Hope it's still there when I go back up 😂

Luckiest polytunnel ever for me. Tree just missed it ,

If it wasn’t for the TV banging on I wouldn’t know there was a storm.
Your lucky, there was loads of damage where I am.😢
shook our house so bad the bathroom mirror fell off the wall
😂
Prince 😂
County Durham, was shocking on the smallholding but we are quite exposed
We had a power cut but the garden has survived which is the main thing
Calm down, Prince? But being alive is so exciting.
Tony......

Cornwall no bad weather at all
@kory6695 Arn't you lucky.
How old is your doberman, ours at 18months started to question us and got a bit out of hand, really had to be strict and show him who was boss.
He’s a year
Heya Tony, rather than keep having to drill in and out that batten every time, how about to affixing a "barricade bracket" that it can just slot into?
That’s a great idea - I have that very system at home on our back gates!
Was quite bad in Cramlington like 👍
I loved seeing Prince running around the plot 🐶
I enjoy your vlogs. Why don't you just use metal post and rent, borrow or buy a pounder to install them?
T posts if you have them in UK. They wont rot and no digging.
Oh dear that won’t match 😅🌈
Meanwhile in Australia 🥵🥵🥵🌞🌞🌞
Think you were trying to say susceptible 😂
Yes!!!
Sorry 1970s
Susceptible
😂
our allotments @ Growchapel were smashed to smithereens
That’s so sad. My heart goes out to you all.
