SG Ruling Party has been discriminating single for a long long time. IMHO this is likely to be economic reason, imagine each single purchase a 65sqm flat, 2 single owning 2 65 sqm flat will be 130 sqm. For couple, they likely to apply for a 90 sqm or 110 sqm. If majority of single start to purchase flat, then how import more new citizen to increase the population ?
Thanks for your comment and I do agree with your perspective. I think most people including singles understand the need for families to be prioritised for housing. However having a blanket ban for singles to own PLH flats is a bit excessive in my opinion. It’s already hard for individuals to buy bigger flats on a single person’s income (versus two for many married couples) plus singles can’t buy direct from HDBs. PLH flats have MOP for ten years so it’d be at least a decade from now before any single can buy a PLH flat. There is no need to ban.

Actually, if SG ruling party have the political will, they could have shorten the lease to 60 years and MOP to 20 years for these PLH. This will avoid over subscription due to FOMO as flat buyers will plan their purchase carefully. For new citizens, this will test their commitment to Singapore in return for purchasing subsidized public flat.
Marriages of convenience are illegal in Singapore, so I can't think of any way to go around these constraints. MND's current position is that there are still housing in prime areas available to singles. So probably one of the following: 1) Continue to pressure the authorities on such issues 2) Suck it up and pick from one of the many non-PLH flats 3) Suck it up and save enough for private property
