its amazing how much budget goes into these competitions, no wonder jazz players have such outstanding wealth, in accordance to their level of playing

Ok guys so I don’t think the Wes Montgomery competition name meant play like him, they just named the competition after him cause he was a great guitar player. It’s kinda like when they name a high school after a pretty well known person, they don’t expect them to come out and act exactly like Alexander Hamilton but people still go to Hamilton high school lol

They are all such wonderful players. Strange that the competition organisers didn't respect them enough to allow them to the facility to utilise the full tone or timbre of their instruments. None of the players are playing an acoustic instrument - they all inherently rely on a guitar amplifier as part of their instrument's colour, and thus, a large part of the player's musical statement. Are they really that lacking of understanding that tone is part of what captures the listener's and the performer's imagination and attention? It's not just about the notes - especially when largely inaudible. Amazingly stupid and totally ignorant. I really feel for those great young players.

few ......a rare and precious talent !

They are very impressive musicians but the competition committee members acted like amateurs, the sound quality is ridiculous.

I agree with all the comments about the strange sound set-up, though in an odd way this seems to add to the variety and inventiveness of each player. Amazing jazz 'chops' from all concerned, I especially liked the 175 guy [and the red one, whatever model it is].

Fantastic players but this step really favours those with a more acoustic sounding guitar. The way you play really changes based on the tone you are able to get from the instrument.

I agree. So unfortunate, a competition based on sound didn’t have the key component to judge and that’s a solid enough sound. What’s the point of judging something that can barely be heard.
Was there ever a complete video of this event?
There is something about working your butt off in a factory five days a week for years and holding down a groovin' little club gig six nights while you raise seven children that makes you play a certain way. None o' these cats did that.

I thought the majority of these guys sounded great but maybe I'm just not on your level of musicianship...

They were all really good players, but the two on the left were heard the best. That said, my vote goes to the guy in the gray suit on the far left with the Maple Gibson! It's a real shame that some of the players had mics, WTF?! The organizers of this event didn't check the sound or equipment for each player, that's a shame! Kudos to all!

I love the guitar but this recording shouldn't be allowed. Misrepresents the beauty of the passion that drives people to play well, namely Tone!!
The sound is absolutely APPALLING but it doesn't really matter because NOT A 1 even remotely comes close to Wes's soul or approach to music indeed the 1st 2 guys on the left should have been in a Django competition[next hall down the block]

Good players, unfortunately such poor sound, and their tones was not Wes like or their playing Wes style, and I concur with another reader in this post, that it is so odd to have a Wes Montgomery competition and none of these player used the thumb once. These young players immediately go for speed and fast runs, in time I am sure they will learn to let the music breathe, nonetheless Jazz Guitar is in good hands👍🏼🎼🎶🎵

The producers should all be ashamed of themselves! It's difficult to appreciate what they've done with such a poor production.
How could the organizers be so incompetent? What a bullshit "competition" when half the players don't have the required tools to play.

vaine et stupide on peut découvrir et apprécier un véritable Musicien qui joue de la guitare

forcément bons musiciens ! A une certaine
époque les meilleurs solistes des meilleurs Big-Bands se livraient à ce genre de joutes
déjà.....pour s'amuser et exciter un public
très réceptif et connaisseur .
