    The look with the aluminium top really reminds me a lot more of the Star Trek logo, to be honest, but I still really like the look of it and I do see how you got there with the Star Wars topic. The one gripe I have is that it's a bit of a waste of that beautiful rosewood top.

    Talitha is the ideal producer, the sibling banter is always great and her voice is so delightful.
    Bring on the next session!

    In Tony's top tips for today, I had a thought. Given that you use Blackmagic cameras, I assume you also use DaVinci Resolve? That being the case, I know (because I'm an audio pro who also uses Resolve) that it supports pro-grade audio plugins. You should point your investigating feet at Waves noise reduction plugins. X-noise and Z-noise in particular will blow you away. Effectively single-ended noise reduction that can eliminate specific noises by teaching them what the ambient noise sounds like and then using phase-nulling in the same way your noise-cancelling headphones work.
    Truly excellent for demolishing air noise and other ambient stuff. If your stream platform also supports VST or AU plugins, you can set up presets that have the noise of all your power tools pre-nulled.

    I really like the look of the guitar, it's different, futuristic and very cool, but still very comfortable when in playing position. I assume there'll be some contouring on the back.
    In all the years I've been watching various builds, I can't ever remember seeing any other injuries- the sure sign of a master craftsman!

    I made a cool bezel for a car dash cluster out of aluminum. I took a orbital sander and fine grit sandpaper to the aluminum and left swirls in it. I painted it red and it had an amazing effect.

    Watching you make the template for the pick-up cavities, reminded me of the template the Next Level Carpentry made for the hand holes in his stools a couple off weeks ago, have a look at how he made the template as it’s one of the best template making techniques I’ve seen and would guarantee that the pickup cavities were perfectly aligned.

    19:13 Alumininium oxide is actually really clear. Chances are it's already formed since the last time you sanded it.

    • @chassetterfield9559
      @chassetterfield9559 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      See my comment above.
      Aluminium oxide is clear. It is the basis of sapphire. In my Cambridge lab, I used to use sapphire discs to calibrate one of my instruments, & disappointingly, they looked like small discs of glass. It is only the presence of trace impurities that give the colours ( Ruby = Chromium , Sapphire = Ti & Fe ).

    An oscillating multi tool with a plunge blade would have been ideal for cutting out the bulk of the aluminium over the pickup cavities.

  • @wolflahti412

    It seems that an oscillating cutter would have worked well to remove most of the aluminium for the pickup cavities.

  • @Slovy_
    @Slovy_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not trying to sound rude or say you’re doing anything wrong but You could have chain drilled the aluminum with a smaller drill bit to remove it then you could have used the forcner bit for just the wood.

    Re the aluminium front plate oxidizing in future; it won't. It already IS oxidized .
    Aluminium metal is SO reactive, that, unless you are working in a vacuum, like space, AS SOON as you cut it, & expose it to atmospheric oxygen it reacts to form aluminium oxide. Not in an hour or so, a minute, or even a second. Pretty much in tenths of a nanosecond after a fresh Al surface is exposed, it is gone again.
    The anodizing process is a specific further process, where a thicker film ( porous, like honeycomb ) is grown up on the surface, using electrolytically generated oxygen, in a bath of sulphuric acid, or sulphuric acid / potassium dichromate [ 'chromic acid ' ].
    If you store Al in particularly damp /humid conditions, you can get minute 'cauliflowers' of Aluminium oxide forming on the surface, but these can be just wiped away.

    While I do enjoy watching Ben work and the guitars and everything. It seems he is getting into a habit of starting a guitar then it goes in to limbo. Currently he has 3 that he has either started or in the case of his daughters guitar started redoing then went to something else without finishing it. There was suppose to be another live stream yesterday for the BODA FRETT build and it did not happen. Also no live stream on Sunday like there has been for the last few months. While I realize that life happens and things change but a notice that there is or isn't going to be a Live stream would have been nice. Does not even have to give a reason why just that it is or isn't going to be happening. I'll get off my high horse now. If you are unwell Ben I understand and hop you get well soon.

      Hey Robert, I have actually been really ill but am starting to feel better. Should be back to normal next week. There were supposed to be posts across the board saying that I wasn't able to do any of the live streams, I am sorry that that didn't happen as fully as I would have liked.

    LITTLE GAME FOR ALL THE VIEWERS:
    take a look at a map of the Netherlands for about 10 minutes to study the SHAPE of the country.
    NEXT: Draw a rough representation of what you remember of the shape as quick as possible.
    NOW: Compare your drawing with the metal part of the body of the guitar and tell me I'm not seeing things...
    YES, I am a (way too) proud owner of a complete set of canon Stormtrooper armor (btw; also UK made/based; RS Propmasters, no affiliation nor sponsored).
    Yes, I'm Dutch.
    But is that enough to call this guitar Star Wars inspired?
    And how the heck did Ben know I'm a Dutch Star Wars fan?
    Usually I'm amazed about the stuff Ben knows, but this is a bit creepy. ; )
