- Hello! In this video I compared the 35th Anniversary Kirsten doll that American Girl re-released to my original historical/Mattel Kirsten from 2009. I also compared three Kirsten dresses from 2021, 2009, and 1986.

They both are cute but I would get 35th Anniversary Kirsten.
35th, but AG dropped the ball in regards to her eyes. They should have done the lighter eye.
I wish the new Kirsten had the lighter blue eyes
I’m biased but I like the older doll better. I like the less vibrant colors because Kirsten got this dress as a hand-me-down from her cousin so it would’ve been more faded. Similarly her apron was worn on her trip through America on a boat, train, and walking through the prairie. It would’ve been way more faded but in general, the older clothes seem more in line with their characters.
I also feel like they didn’t do Kirsten’s hair properly in the new one which is why it looks longer. The end of the braid is supposed to be pulled up pretty high through the top of the braid.
Like the older one better.
I actually like the new one better apart from the eyes. If they had also done that she would be incredible I think!
Great review! I like them all. I have my original 1986 Kirsten so I won’t be getting another. I’m happy they have released these for people who want to collect them new now. The books 📚 are wonderful.
Why are the newer dolls shorter than the older ones?
I ordered my 35 anniversary Kirsten doll on Tuesday! I’m so excited for her to arrive. My daughter, now 36 has an original Kirsten doll!

I noticed the same differences in my old Kirsten and my new one. I like my old one the most. I found her at a thrift store for two dollars. She is in very good shape. I love her light blue eyes. Thank you for sharing. Happy Christmas!

Just came across my original 1986 Kirsten at my mom's house. She still has her apron, bonnet, necklace, handkerchief, the spoon holder, and her doll, Sari. I seemed to have lost the spoon though and her blue hair ribbons. I checked the tag on her dress and it is a paper tag like someone mentioned below, so definitely the original 1986 one. I loved playing with this doll so much! Wish I had been wise and not taken her hair down though. We rebraided it but it's not the same. Loved your video.

I cannot say which is better between the original 1986 and the new 35 Anniversary one: the differences are minimal and could be noticed only by a direct comparision. Anyway it is a really beautiful doll, which I love very much.

I'm always rooting for the older dolls. I've had such a hard time finding the perfect Kirsten. I did find a couple. Both were from the mid to late 2000s, but I'd like an older one and older Kirtsens seem to be the hardest to find. Really, I'd love to get a white body Kirsten. There's something about the white body dolls eyes and faces that are just so pretty, but the price ain't pretty.
i think the 35th anniversary one has her braids tied a bit lower to her hair, making it look longer than mattel kirsten, but it’s not. it’s probably just the wrapped around hair and elastic could have been higher like the mattel kirsten is

Thank you for comparing new vs old! I much prefer the older Kirsten. She’s beautiful! We have an early 90s Kirsten who’s hair is in bad shape. We thought about changing her head I don’t want to switch any original PC parts. I’m hoping to restore her instead ☺️
Oh no don’t get rid of that pleasant company head! There are plenty of ways to fix her up to make her look new! I have a series on my channel where I fix up some dolls, you might be able to get some ideas from that!
Did you see any differences in the dolls' bangs?
I wonder if the Color difference could be due to age and being kept in the box.
The box that her 2010 Kirsten doll was in only had plastic by the face. The rest of the dress would’ve been shielded from the sun. Also there would be a noticeable difference under the apron and on the backside of the dress. My 2003 Kirsten’s blue dress looks just like her 2010 one.
Don’t forget the Pleasant company on the back. Did they have that on the 1986 doll?
I got the 1986 kirsten doll. They have a very short body tag that says made from germany. 1986. She was my first pleasant company doll ever when i was little.
My Kirsten's dress has the same velcro style as the 80s dress, but it has the pattern of the 90s dress. I'm wondering if it's because I got her during the transition period before she retired? I thought that was interesting!!!
My kirsten has a lot shorter body tag on her that is from germany. Plus, with the 86 dress on. I got her when i was little. She was my first pleasant company doll.

I appreciate this video I tried doing the same for a Facebook group I’m in, but I have a correction! An authentic 1986/1987 outfit will actually come with a paper tag not a satin one! That is most likely a 1990/91 transitional dress! I do not have the intention of malice in this comment I just want to help out! So I’m sorry if this upsets anyone
With the underneath of the dresses, the 35rh anniversary and 1986 do not have lining fabric, while yours does.
