    In brief :
1.Gut-brain axis affects our sugar and fat cravings.
    2. Liking sugar is taste-based, wanting is different.
    3. Sweet receptors play a role in sugar preference.
    4. Mice without sweet receptors drink equally from sugar and water.
5.Over time, mice without sweet receptors prefer sugar.
    6. Gut cells recognize sugar, send signals to the brain.
    7. Specific neurons in the brain respond to post-ingestive sugar.
    8. Sugar preference is reinforced by the gut-brain axis.
9.Gut cells do not recognize artificial sweeteners.
    10. Artificial sweeteners do not satisfy sugar cravings.
11.Dopamine is involved in craving sugar.
    12. Overconsumption of sugar and fat is a major issue.
    13. Modulating the gut-brain circuits may help control cravings.
    14. Identifying healthier alternatives to satisfy gut receptors is important.
    15. Modulating the circuits can improve human health.

I remember having Covid not able to taste and smell anything for 1 month. However I still had some sugar cravings. That was the moment I experienced myself that there must be a relation with my gut.

What are you doing. You need to be consuming real sugar from natural sources likes raw honey and fruit. Sugar substitutes for diabetes is insanity. It literally contributes to more insulin resistance. Stop listening to your doctor and stop listening to the current nutrition science that’s founded on questionnaires or a fat and sick nation.

Because sugar breaks down easily to glucose and glucose can immediately produce energy for your body. Other nutrients are more difficult to break down. So your brain congratulates you when you eat sugar! (By increasing dopamine, and making you Happy).

The sugar eating bacteria like it and are fed well( with sugar) so they multiply. Now you have a bigger sugar colony to feed. Also the insulin response- you eat sugar it rises, and roughly 30min- 1hr it starts to fall and you get cravings for sugar again

I have only just discovered your channel & will view more in future. This discussion is interesting to me in the way that both participants seem to be a little on the wrong side of personal weight management. There seems to be consideration that fat ingestion is a contributor to ill health alongside sugar (glucose) consumption or actually it is over-consumption beyond what our systems can cope with. My personal way of controlling sugar/glucose consumption is to be as well versed as possible in the effects on the body that over consumption causes. From the study of this subject & some understanding of the harm that might ensue from indulging in this substance I have trained my mind to recognize sweetness as a sort of harmful substance, a poison to avoid, so instead of it causing a craving I think of it as harmful. Liking or wanting, explained :)

  • @tylermoore4429
    @tylermoore4429 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I feel like an alien whenever I hear ominous talk of sugar "craving" and "addiction". That is not how it works for me at all. I want sweet foods at certain moments, but having a fruit or a small amount of juice, I am usually sated. After that I have no desire for any more sweet taste, only spicy or savory tastes. There is a widely prevalent metabolic problem of some sort that is starving cells of glucose and wasting it somehow.

Mhm...simulating sugar for those gut cells doesn't sound good to me...maybe it can reduce the bad effects of too much sugar...but the underlying problem of uncontrollable craving and everything connected to it remains.

  • @Solistastyle
    @Solistastyle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

So basically sugar is addictive because of its taste as well as it's impact on the gut/brain ie..impact on energy.
Artificial sweeteners trigger the taste receptors but not the gut, so artificial sweeteners don't address cravings.
    Why is this news?
As for the cravings, parasites, gut imbalances etc impact sugar cravings.
I thought we all knew this. It isn't news. We know the secret is in gut bacterial balances. We also know consuming wholefoods is the solution.
The problem is in the implementation of this knowledge. Doctors don't tell us any of this. We get prescribed pharmaceuticals and antibiotics which cause more damage.
And the information on creating gut balance, is confusing. Some say increase consumption of fermented food, others say that creates greater irritation.
Some say increase green vegetable consumption. Others say they contain oxalates.
I thought there was a general consensus on how sugar works?
The issue seems to be in the dissemination of that info. And the confusion in the solutions offered.

Thank you for great content. I do have a question. I got a little confused when Dr. Zuker mentioned that artificial sweeteners do get a reaction on sweet sensors on the tongue but not the gut. The guy sensors only work on glucose molecules. Does this mean that artificial sweeteners do not induce insulin production? If yes, could you lead me to definite scientific studies you trust on this? As you know, the Internet is kind of agnostic when it comes to information. You can find articles that agree with whatever position you take, making a non scientific person like me easy pray to junk-scientists.
This is my situation. I practice OMAD for weight loss purposes. I also do not like the taste of pure water so I used to drink water with water enhancers sweetened with stevia/ erythritol / monk fruit. On days I make the effort to drink just plain water, I find I hardly make it to 64oz per day. I do triple that and more on days I drink enhanced water.
What I learned from you is, fat metabolism CANNOT happen in the presence of insulin. Am I sabotaging my efforts by drinking artificially sweetened water?
Second question, if artificial sweeteners induce insulin production but there is no glucose in the bloodstream, what happens to the insulin? Would it drop my blood glucose to dangerous levels ? You said that even though the brain can run on ketones, there are certain brain functions that depend on glucose.
My apologies, this is long. I hope you get to see this and have a response for me.
Thank you again for your content
