Hi, Little tip: I put the stencil after every use for 5 minutes in ultrasonic, they come out without flux, completely clean , as new that helps a lot :) Thanks for the Videos :)
yes good job even though i havnt a clue what your talking about i just thought id watch see how these tiny fings are fixed you do great job people pay lots money for those phones an you repair them:). your job probably 1 best today your job still be here in 100s years fixing small high technology if i was colledge kid id learn this stuff at colledge:).
hello jason, big fan here, hope you can help me out. i have 6 plus which turns on but pmic gets hot.it draws 0.2Amps constantly.checked voltages on PP_BAT_VCC and its all normal, changed u1401 and still same result.(recommended by one of my friends who has good knowledge than me :D) .could that be the pmic it self shorted? any word from you highly appreciated.thank you and be safe in this crazy times.
Nice work, can you recommend what components to check on an iphone 6 thats been water damaged, It dosent recognice the battery (new one ofc) but goes to apple logo and off when charging, and ofc the owner tried charging it when it still was water inside.. The board and all components is cleaned with isopropanyl alcohol already and cant see anything that looks burnt.
Hi, i watched a lot of your videos, and just wanted to ask you what temp are you using to remove the shields? And one more thing - my iPhone 6 recently stopped charging, and after doing some research, i discovered that U2 (Tristar) could be the problem. So i got 2 new ICs, cleaned everything including the black stuff covering U2, removed U2, cleaned the black stuff underneath U2. Then i ran into a little problem, wasn't sure about the orientation of the IC, searching on google gave me two different orientations, so i decided to try my luck and soldered it the way i thought it should be. The phone turns on, when i connect the charger it says CHARGING, shows the charging symbol, power draw is around 500mA with screen on. As soon as the screen turns of, power draw drops to around 10-20mA... Any idea what could the problem be? Could it be that the U2 IC is bad? Also, IF the orientation of the IC is wrong, i guess the phone wont turn on, or it wouldn't charge, right?
+ANIBAL AVILA I think this IC was actually cracked. There was a piece of it left behind on the noard that I thought was part of the strobe driver IC next to it but closer inspection showed that piece of glass was from the IC I replaced.
I have an iPhone 6s, it doesn't turn on and it was checked by Apple store technician and they said the phone is dead, they used a new battery but it didn't turn on. They told me to buy a new one. Can you tell me what can I do to fix it and why it doesn't turn on since the problem is not from the battery.
That's amazing work I used to do component repair on military electronics in the 1990's with microscopes on classified stuff. We were outsourced small business money sucked like $13 bux an hour it was good for 1993. I went into IT work did much better didn't have to spend all day looking though a microscope probing with a digital O scope. My guess is no one is getting rich off this type of repair since it's cheaper to just buy another used phone.
Thank u! :) I really depends on the day really. I charge $95 to $300 on any given device and I usually make $200 to $1000 per day. Ok ok, there are some days that suck horribly bad and I make zero but today, it is 10am and I have billed out just over $500 already. I am, however, concerned about the long term future of it. We are at the mercy of the manufacturers and they would rather not see this stuff repaired.
Today it's lot easier to own a business like this and survive with the internet think about how you might be able to do this in 1990's with no resource's like we have today on the internet. Most of us electronic techs were at the mercy of some small company who worked out a deal with a larger one. In my case the owner was an officer in the army in Vietnam in radio intelligence. He had lot of friends who were in the defense industry by the 1980's he was making lot of money but his employees were paid far less just enough to live in a little apartment and drive an old used car in California. It was interesting work don't get me wrong I did like the technology I just couldn't see a future in it. It's tough when you don't have the support of the manufacture behind you in case like yours. Your right they would rather see you go away. What is amazing to me the cottage industry China has created I guess these manufactures are so full of greed they just tolerate it. Are all the schematics, and board layout's from china they just copy everything there sell it to anyone.
Thanks a lot for this great demonstration, as always, a job well done. I have a question please, I try to repair a dead short. I have a short on these 2 lines : PP_VCC_MAIN & PN5V7_SAGE_AVDDN. No other line of Chestnut are affected. Is it still possible in this case that a short under Chestnut is the origin of the short ? (Every cap in VCC Main looks fine).
Hello. ipad mini is not charging the battery. Voltage +5V comes in q 5700, q5701. The icon displays charging, the sound connection, but the battery that does not come I replaced the Tristar and the Main power remains on the battery is not charging.
Hey man, I recently dropped my phone pretty hard and I know the charging port was going out on it (again), but it still doesn't get any power (even though I understand the LCD could be toast, I still think it would turn on to the point it would get recognized by my pc), and my biggest concern is all of the data and pictures that were on the phone prior to the incident. I wasn't able to back it up due to the port being faulty and my pc only recognized it for a short period of time and I was wondering if I am able to send you my phone and or board to see if you could possibly get it to either power on or recover my pictures? Thanks, Monty
I have I phone 6s plus.. but that one no power on. That one happen on chagrin time.. please can you tell were is damage in the phone.. crash IC. if i send you . Can you fix that..
i love all your content, i watched a load bought the tools and re-killed 2 x iphone 6 leaving em for a few days and start re watching the how to diagnose stuff (the important part) lol just couldn't wait to play with the toys, PS i can now reball like a demon. PPS my victim/practice phones are dead ebay ones
You left me a comment some days ago asking when the next video was but I can't find it to reply. Gonna do that here :) It's been a really tough couple of weeks. Good repairs but we're planning this vacation in about a week and that has really made life tricky. I think we're ok tho. Have some new gear coming that should all be arriving on Tuesday. I'm planning a big unboxing video. Hopefully all works out. Thanks for all your comments. I've been so buried in work this week, I'll be very glad to get back on TH-cam!
Hi there everyone! I have a simple question about short detection (PS: you're dealing with a novice). Do you really need a DC power supply in order to check for a shorted capacitor? Thank you !
No, of course you don't. But shorts create heat, so you can localise the area where the short is coming from. Otherwise you would end up measuring the whole day.
P.S.: The fastest method would be to coat the whole board with frost (freezing spray) and then connect the power supply. In most cases the short melts the ice immediately and you have it localised in no time. :)
GPOA ACBH Thank you very much for your reply! The problem is actually that my power supply has an output amperage of 1 amp, so it is kind of weak for such short detection. I would guess that I would need to buy a more powerful power supply for this job, true? Thanks again!
Chill out with the concern for Video quality. You are doing a GREAT JOB !!!! Keep it up and do some iPads to help me on them...They are much like iPhones
My ultrasonic cleaner is just too cheap to brag about! LOL I'll add it if I can find a link but I'm worried that anyone else will not have the same luck. I think I got lucky on mine paying $60 for it and still using it a year later.

Brother you doing great work you are inspiration for me
I've watched a couple of your VCC main short vids, and I'm wondering why you're not using an IR camera to find the heat instead of your fingers?
So are you repairing or repairing and sending it to the owners?

why fails after the fall? the solder cracks because less lead in solder composition??or blow up pads, because bad quality boards?

was it ok after Spring?
Man sometimes I do these and they come off no problem. Other times I pump them with heat and they still don't come off. Then end up pulling pads

you can go for anything around 320 - 380 the lower the better but don't heat it too much if you don't wanna trash it
