The Donnas are Brett Anderson-Vocals, Maya Ford-Bass, Allison Robertson-Guitar and Tory Castellano-Drums. The Runaways are Cherie Currie-Vocals, Joan Jett-Vocals and Guitar, Jackie Fox-Bass, Lita Ford-Lead Guitar, and Sandy West-Drums

two great bands that went away too damn soon. I had all the Runaways LPs, Cherie + Marie, Jackie Fox solo, played the hell out of all of them. There are so many Runaways songs that spoke to what it meant to be a teen, just like the Who or UFO, and they never got recognition for it.
It would have been killer for the Donnas to do an entire LP of select Runaways tracks.
The Donnas should have been huge!

One of the absolute top five songs of the Runaways. When you cover the early Runaways the Bass Player is covering one of the greatest Bass Players in History Jackie was a monster player. When you listen to her on songs like Secrets and Wild Thing and many others Live Jackie was the best at what she did better than Lita, and Joan. Sandy and Jackie could keep up with the Big names.
Lita and Jackie both always stood out to me for some reason :)
It's actually pretty amazing of Jackie, considering the fact she didnt join the band as a bass player and was quickly forced to learn it and play. I congratulate her for her awesome achievements!

The Donna's really choose some great covers to rock-out Donna's style! And for any Runaways diehards out there(Runaways diehards are my kind of rockandrollers!) Lita and Joan, not to mention Cherrie are the girls of my highschool dreams but, if you must compare the Runaways to the Donnas( Why must some engage in such petty silliness?)there really is no comparison cuz, I can count the great rockandroll songs the Runaways released on like one hand, maybe two, whereas, the Donna's have like 30 or more great, classic, phenomenal rockandroll songs, 3or4 all killer no filler albums and all together the Donna's just rock way harder!!!Call em like I hear'em and God bless the Donna's!!We love you and miss you😎😁😄😄😄😄!!!
The Runaways were pioneers, learning and playing on pure guts and heart. And as per my other comments above, they spoke to the alienation and insecurities of being a teen/young adult and how to find your way through it all. And they had to fight and endure hardships to get heard modern bands can't even imagine.
The Donnas bring a different voice, a secure feminism and strength of a different generation. And frankly their musicianship takes the Runaways lunch money IMHO.
But I love them both and equally, play their music LOUDLY and proudly. And don't forget the band Fanny who paved the way for them both.

This is absolutely wonderful and I swear to god this isn't any kind of criticism-- but wouldn't it have been something if this cover had been during that Spend The Night sweet spot where Brett was still snarling but down low? Dang her voice is a beast on that record. I think she decided the snarl was cringey, can't really figure why else she'd never ever do it again.

I remember going to the record store and buying the Runaways first record. This one was released later on. The battle of the T and A's ( tits and ass) featured the Runaways. Joan and Lita could play!!

The drummer had a shoulder injury of some sort from drumming so hard. So they just stopped playing.
Torry developed tendonitis in her shoulders. She attempted to learn proper technique but it didn't fix the problem and she was forced to retire. If you watch her play, you can see that she uses far too much shoulder in her playing. Most of a drummers power should come from the forearm and wrists, with the wrist taking precedent.
I loved Tory's enthusiasm, but every time I see her play I say "too much shoulder" to myself.

Though I give you both the benefit of the doubt, yes definitely the song is way better much noiser like the way Cherie does it. But for this cover they tried to replicate the studio album version in which Joan sings lead and the song is a bit softer much identical to this one.
