Just trying something for the first time is a win Huw! I have no doubt that you will make lots of perfect yoyo's to go with all the strings you have and sell them all.
And when you sell them you could leave the string off you could have a sign: Yoyo's for sale...No Strings Attached LOL
Sorry buddy it is early and have only had a half cup of coffee so far.

Those chameleon powders really made the piece turn out well. It's a shame the yo-yo didn't work. I really like the approach you took to making it all one piece, including the axle. I wonder if a resin inlay might provide more mass to make the yo-yo operate properly.

I think the yoyo looks great. I agree of putting a little bit of weight on it or make a bigger or wider yoyo. And when it comes to strings I find using bigger thread used for sawing provides more grip. Maybe I'll make this project one of these days 😊

Good effort Huw. That colour changing pigment looks great. I think I'm going to try one but using a bearing out of a treadmill roller and a short length of the axle as, well, an axle. With two wooden press fitted caps it should have plenty of weight. Don't got no chameleon powders though, only metalic water colours.
