I homeschool a 7th grader and 4th grader. We followed the Seton curriculum and thankfully they provide the lessons plans however they give us the flexibility to complete the lessons at our pace. I plan the year on the monthly area by noting extended trips, breaks, holidays and all day events. On Sunday I would plan our week using the weekly side. The weekly side is why I stay with the Cousin. I mark the time, the subject and what the plans are. It keeps us all accountable and it helps when my kids need to look at what the lesson is for the day for when I am not around or my husband subs. I would use the daily similar to you by filling the outcome of the day, grades and/or general scrapbooking. I also carry a Weeks as my EDC and it contains everybody's schedule. After years of trial and error, the Cousin and Weeks combo has been a Godsend. Thank you for your informative videos!
Thank you so much for sharing this, Martha! I love how you utilize all the sections. I anticipate that they will all come in handy for me as my kids advance and become more involved in activities. And it’s nice to see the Hobonichi brand working so well for you!
I loved this!! I’m so glad I came across your videos. I liked seeing your thinking process of using this as a homeschool planner. I’ve been having a hard time finding someone who uses a hobonichi for this purpose. I can’t wait to see how your planning style evolves in this.
I totally agree that not many people share how they use a hobo for this purpose! I feel like I’m fumbling around in the dark trying to set this thing up 😂. But it’s so versatile that we can fumble around as much as we want and the hobo takes it all❤️
I always have had a hard time finding the perfect planner to plan homeschool. I like how your using your daily pages, I think I will try this out! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!! I hope it works for you! This year I switched to standard/narrow size and I’m using a traveler’s company weekly insert. I have been the happiest in that. I found the A5 to be a bit big for what I needed but I loved how it worked...so I’m reserving it for when things get busier and my kids get more advanced.
I am so excited to see someone else using the Hobonichi Cousin for homeschool! This will be my 5th year homeschooling my two kids, and every year I have to tweak something in my planning system. I love the versatility of the Hobonichi so much, and I will be ordering another for 2019. Great video. Have a great school year!
Oh thank you for sharing your experience! I’m so glad to hear that the Hobonichi is working out for you. That gives me hope! I hope you have an amazing school year too.
Yes! So glad you did this video. I just ordered a 2019 Hobonichi Cousin Avec and was going to use it as an art journal but now I’m inspired to use an A5 TN for homeschool. 😆 Thanks for the helpful video!
Super excited to see you planning in a Cousin (it’s my favorite)! No homeschooling advice here but I’m excited to see how your planning style evolves 👍🏼 I currently use my monthly and weekly for planning but the dailies for collections and notes :) [Currently carry mine in a Chic Sparrow-also tucked into the back pocket :D]
It was basically an instant favorite for me too! So I didn’t realize the pen that comes with it is a Uni Jetstream. I find that the ink isn’t dark enough for me. Is that what you use? Any highlighter suggestions? I have mildliners but they feather my sarasa ink so I’d need to highlight first then write (but I don’t wanna do that!). Still trying to figure out the right combo. And do you use the times in the weekly pages or ignore them?
Sarah Martinez I do generally stick to the Uni Jetstream because I love color coding with highlighters (my all time favorites are the soft color Uni Propus Window but I do also use Mildliners-mainly for the variety in colors) I do sometimes miss gel pens so I’ve been on the hunt for one that won’t smear with highlighters on Tomoe River and...I finally found one! Zebra recently released the Sarasa MarkOn and if you give it a couple seconds, it will not smear :D Jetpens sells the refills and they fit in the Sarasa Grand 👍🏼 I used to ignore the times on the weeklies but I slowly started using them and now I enjoy them. The only things I always try to write on the right time are appointments and when I go to bed/wake up..otherwise I’m not a stickler about the times. I tend to use them as a general guide.
Thank you so much for all the info!! Just putting it out there...I would be so excited if you made videos again! You have so much valuable knowledge to share❤️
I’ve found this so helpful Sarah as I have a CS A5 Americano on its way and I wanted to see how an A5 notebook (I’m thinking of a Taroko, because I would like a clear page and Tomoe River paper) fit in the secretarial pocket. Thank you so much 😊

We also use The Good and The Beautiful for Language Arts and science😁
Beautiful TN!
Thanks, Andrea!
