I have a dust allergy that's got worse over the years so I decluttered dried flowers and decorative pillows. I have also got rid of my large stock of greeting cards, wrapping paper, gift bags etc. I rarely exchange gifts or send cards nowadays and my friends have finally got the message! Decluttering clothes is still a work in progress.
These are good ones!! I have way too many gifting supplies and dust is an issue for everyone in our household. I recently removed the fabric headboard from my daughter's room because it wasn't possible to keep it dust free for her. She was having a terrible allergic reaction to it that kept her up at night until I figured it out.
You always create great videos that are easy to understand and implement. For those “fantasy self” just in case items, trust your instinct. If it’s not a definite YES, then it’s a definite NO. I decluttered a hair product that I thought I’d love, but the reality is I never like anything in my hair. I bought it again bc it was a good product that worked well. Well I decluttered it AGAIN bc I don’t like stuff in my hair 😂
The garage, indeed, is the most over cluttered, junk-filled space in the American home. It's kind of sad in a way...I always park our cars in the garage. We don't get inclement weather here in Los Angeles, California; however, the sun can damage car paint. I'm thankful too, we have street and "car rules/laws" in my neighborhood. That is, cars can't be parked on the street overnight and parked and/or broken down in a driveway with a flat tire etc. It ruins the aesthetic of the neighborhood and can also invite crime. There is nothing in my home I don't use. The last decluttering I need to do, is donating two pair of jeans (never worn) I no longer fit into. I love your channel so much, it's genuine and real.
I agree with the common issue with garages in America! I've always lived in apartments so I don't have a garage, but I wish I did! It is baffling to me that so many people have them, and yet they're too full to actually house their car
I agree about the clutter in garages, i see them filled to the top with boxes. But I know many people who have a clean garage who still can't park inside their garage. Due to the sizes of our garages having not caught up with the size of our vehicles, e.i. trucks and SUVs. This is my problem, unfortunately.
Hello Angela, Thanks for the encouraging video! Just yesterday I went through my art supplies, old artwork, etc., and found out that some things I considered useful and necessary to keep lost their value. Artists are usually recommended to keep all their work because you can still learn from them, but I found out that it's not always valid. Though, it's nice to see the progress, lol when comparing my older works. I am slowly but surely progressing to my visually clutter-free house, and I always enjoy your thoughtful videos!
Wonderful! I’m sure it is fun to look through the older art and recognize the progress- saving everything indefinitely though could get to be a lot! ❤️
I’m really enjoying your videos and have practiced many things you suggest and they work well. One suggestion I would make if you have canned foods that have expired and can’t donate, I open the can and recycle the can. I know this might sound silly but tin cans, plastic containers all can be recycled. Throwing the container away full will just end up in a land fill.
My mind is stubborn 😊 good video.. just wished I could get back on into it, gave up cause didn’t do a bit of good when hubby goes behind me well yea….needless to say beyond aggravating! BTW in this video? IF I ever cam to visit? I would 1. Have to visit during the day OR 2. Sit on the floor cause not only do your windows not have curtains but your door don’t either and I would be petrified!! ❤️
How do i get my husband to declutter some of his stuff? He's extremely sentimental. It makes me embarrassed to see the mess in my house but i can't chuck his stuff away.
I think one of the most important things to do is to always have open conversations with each other about how you are feeling. Being able to validate each other’s feelings can be helpful in breaking down those walls of frustration. ❤️
I think I can honestly say that I don’t really have a junk drawer. Not that I don’t have any things that are more or less “Idk what to do with this yet” lol. But I guess for me I don’t think I want such things in a random drawer tho. I am a fastidious cricket tho so that has never made any sense to me-I just tend to put everything in a named “category.” And as you put like things with like things it kind of sorts itself out eventually and combining that with what the purpose of the thing is. And then you can see what unneeded multiples are and what you actually would use. So I DO now call it “utilities/small tools” drawer. And I have another larger drawer (in a chest) where I keep larger tool type stuff that I call “house maintenance.” Lol. Most of my “idk” stuff tho is just things like tech or construction ish things that I’m trying to muster up enough bandwidth to tackle (like setting up my free smart home thing that I got from changing my internet over and hanging up the porch bug zapper that I found on clearance lol). 😬 Other notes. Sitting here at my son’s condo in Raleigh (NC). Nice little trip with sort of scoping out the area with plans to move around here somewhere (for me prob not directly in the city lol). Loosely took on the 300 things in April. Wound up getting rid of approx 160-170 items total. 😬 Most was donate but a few were “use up” or trash/recycle/burn. Interesting tho. It got me moving a lot more on combining some products, using some up and decanting a few giving me a nice aesthetic boost. And reevaluating what I use and don’t use. And what I would give to have a proper garage. Lol. Well maybe when I move I could at least have a nice carport. Lol.
It’s good that you naturally aren’t inclined to pile a bunch of random stuff together! That seems to be a problem for many people (myself included) if not very diligent! And yay for the home search! I’ll be praying for the perfect opportunity for you! Such an exciting season! ❤️
@@ArrowHillCottage Lol. Thanks! Of course I’m not “perfect” but I def try to keep “random junk pile” to a minimum. Lol. And THANKS! Yes. I need such prayers or at least to know someone out there has a bit of faith too. The people who surround me now seem to rather be like the mourners of that one girl where the Good Lord had to shoo them off so she could be raised up. (You know. They had their funeral songs ready with their sad and despondent faces and had donned their ratty clothes with full on sackcloth and ashes as if to roll out the red carpet for the grim reaper and abject defeat). So I guess I must do what He did. Shoo the doom and gloom doubt peddlers off. Hard to have miracles in the midst of all of that. But I shall have it regardless. Whatever it takes. So yes. Add to the list…people like that. Give them the boot and never look back. Even if it rips half your soul out in the process. It’s only stuck on sludge anyways that badly needs to go with them when they go. It will be totally worth it. And it’s ok. The severing wound will heal anyways.
What would YOU add to the list?
Old papers...recycle or shred anything with personal information!

I bet decluttering those dust catchers definitely simplified your life! Wow! ❤️

Good job being extra observant to figure that out! ❤️
Great practical advice to simplify our lives. Thank you
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! ❤️

Ha ha! Sometimes it takes us a while to learn our lessons! Glad you’ve got it now! ❤️
I don't know about 10 things, but the first thing I want to do is learn it from You!😁
Ha ha! Thanks so much! Have a wonderful day! ❤️

That’s good that your area has laws about it! Maybe more people will clear out the clutter because of it as well! ❤️

It is really crazy!
Yes, that is true too! ❤️
Yep You never disappoint !🤣😁❤️
Love the items about initially enjoying art ideas and not finishing. How perfect that is! You are right on target!
I think we forget that part! Usually when we go into a hobby - we do it for fun/enjoyment ….not a ‘finished product’ ❤️
Great tips! Thanks!!!

Yes, good point! ❤️
I would add throw blankets and pet supplies
Yes, those can add stress for some people for sure! ❤️
I compost junk food sometimes. The bugs seem to like the sugary additions to the pile.
Ha ha! Never really thought of that! ❤️

At what age do you start incorporating your kids into making the decluttering decisions and not just doing it for them?
I would say that they are probably ready to do some of that critical thinking work at the preschool age - so maybe around 3/4 ❤️
I never have trouble tossing something I don’t like. Take a photo and let it go.
That’s awesome! ❤️
