Its not equitable that one side was able to use the equal rule to gain an advantage over the other, especially when the violation had not effect the game in any way. This seems obvious if you can go like one step deeper.
It’s a rule. Players and coaches alike are aware of it at this level of play. It’s not “petty” to call attention to an equipment violation. Do you think the Ohio State coach wouldn’t have called attention to an equipment violation on Maryland in the same circumstances?
