Watching this makes me wonder why her comic talents haven’t been put to use in a big comic leading role like MAME. She’s the perfect choice to headline a much needed reimagined mounting of this classic.
I bought a ticket to WONDERFUL TOWN with great expectations of seeing Donna Murphy in a performance everyone was talking about. Unfortunately, Murphy was missing a lot of performances - or left the show early. Instead, I saw Brooke Shields. Watching Murphy in this clip I realize that I missed a great performance. I've never been crazy about this number - but Murphy makes it a showstopper.
This studio rendition is slightly abridged. There are actual performance clips of Donna Murphy performing the number elsewhere on TH-cam. I saw her in the theater: incredible!
I love the show--I did it twice, and saw it in London as well--and I love Donna Murphy. But I would have hated to see her do this role with that mannered nasal twang. Grrrrr.
@Robert Lee, Countertenor I didn't see her in London. I saw Maureen Lipman do it there, in 1987. I saw Donna a month later in Drood and she was astounding. (Same me, different TH-cam handle)
I was lucky enough to have seen this magnificent performance live in this first class revival
Me too! 🙂
God she’s amazing
