Freddie Mercury supposedly said 'Do anything with my music, but don't make it boring." I think Freddie would be proud of this interpretation of Queen's music.

One of my favorites! It's been on my playlist ever since I first heard it. The 3 are basically fighting over Earl's soul. Geoff's character intervenes (note his cane keeps their weapons from touching Earl). As the Baron, he can take a soul or allow the person to live. Notice Earl's coin pendant is missing when he wakes up. The idea is that the Baron kept it as payment.

Oooh i didn’t see that detail. Great notice. I feel like I missed a lot but I like the explanation. It makes the songs even better than what it is.
      Thank you 😊

Earl had a medical scare that prompted the video. If you want to hear Geoff go high more, check out Oogie Boogie's Song, Enemy, If I Were A Rich Man/Girl

Really, his most similar run is probably the one in the Little Mermaid Medley. That crazy, multi-octave slide he does is pretty dang impressive.

I love his part in Enemy but you have to pay close attention he riffs up so high it blends up into the lovely descant melody that Alexa is singing. Descant might be the wrong term. It was what we would have called that high melody in my chior days.

Geoff also shows off his range in You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch and Hoist The Colours (you have to be paying attention to that one, because he already tricks you into thinking he'll drop, and while your brain is stuck processing it, he slides back down and much lower than most people catch as the others come back in).

Oh really !? Well I’m glad he’s okay.
So a lot of my VP reactions are in my description inside my playlist. Oogie boogie has been completed but I can make a note of enemy. His range in this as discussed is insane 🤯. What a voice

Glad you enjoyed this it is one of my favourites that i keep coming back to again and again.
J.None - Anubis an Egyptian god who would weigh the deceased's heart against a feather from Maat who was the goddess of truth and justice. If you had lived a good honest life your heart would be light as a feather, but for every bad thing you had done your heart would weigh a little heavier.
Eli - Yama Nirvana I don't know much about this one. Yama is the usher of souls responsible for making sure souls are sent onto their correct afterlife.
Layne - Guardian (Sentinel of underground) i am wonddering if he is along the lines of cerberus, the three headed dog (Layne is wearing a fluffy /faux fur coat). Cerberus is a guardian of the afterlife and respondible for ensuring no one escaped the afterlife. Which is why when Earl is singing about "just gotta get right out of here" Layne pulls out his sword as if to say time to get to work and stop him from leaving.
Geoff - Baron (possibly Samedi) - the Baron is a master of the dead but also giver of life and can cure mortals of any disease and wounds. In return for "payment" and at the end of this video Earl's pendant is gone"
    Also shows Earls fighting spirit
There are a few other songs with riffs in their catalogue.

  • @par500dragon7

Geoff does a similar riff as Ursula in the Little Mermaid Medley. And he gets quite high in his new release - Sound of Silence.

This run is actually wider than the one he did in the Little Mermaid Medley... but the one in the Little Mermaid Medley is controlled tighter. But, to be fair, in this song (medley), it was meant to convey something different, and Geoff killed it both times on emoting using his voice.

First, the gentleman with Earl is his husband. He also appeared (with Geoff, Layne and Eli’s wives) in the Boybands video. The part where they were standing around talking about ‘his big wallet.’
Layne and Eli pulled bits from Queen’s catalog of music specifically to tell a story. This was just after Earl had a health scare while they were on tour.
Aside from Eli mentioning Freddy Mercury’s interest in mythology, the rest of this comment is based on the video and my own research as an amateur student of mythology:
Anubis (Egyptian) (J None), Cerberus (Greek) (Layne) and Yama Nirvana (East Asian and Buddhist) (Eli) are all guardians that convey souls to the underworld. There is visible tension in the video between them and Geoff’s character, Baron Samedi (Haitian Voudou). Baron is the master of the dead AND the giver of life. A person will not die if Baron refuses to dig their grave. So while the others want to get on with it, it’s the Baron’s decision. It’s only right that he is the last one to face Earl before Earl’s return to his life.

Aww that’s sweet and I gotta check out the boy band one.
I’m glad Earl came out okay with it.
This was a great adaptation of the health scare and the queen collab.
Thank you for breaking the gods reference down and helping understand that better😊

You really need to watch more Voiceplay, they've got quite a lot songs where Geoff shows off both his low and his high range ;)
One of my favorite vocal flexes of his can be found in "If I was a rich man / girl" featuring Ashley Diane.

Layne arranged this one. Especially in the past, Layne pushed Geoff a lot - he was the one arranging Geoff's incredible runs from low to high and back again, and the extreme lows. Love Layne's beatboxing. It's so incredibly varied. Sometimes I think he isn't as well known for it simply because it IS varied, you can't point out one thing and say "he's the best at this." He does so much... and so incredibly well. Love his creativity, and the way he puts the music first. Boy Bands in 5 is FIRE.

I really love this one. They are so good at doing transitions from one song to another in these medley's. And laynes beatboxing is insane in this as well. Boy bands in 5 mins is fantastic as well 😊

Earl had a health scare - appendicitis I believe - so they came up with a storyline and used Queen songs to show gods of the underworld figtingover his soul. Brilliantlly imaginative. The man with Earl is his husband. Geoff shows more of his range in his solo videos, on his low bass channel.. Country Roads, Blackbirds, High and Dry, to mention a few.

    • @KaireemReactions
      @KaireemReactions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh wow .. I’m glad it he’s better now and aww that’s cute. I was aware they were gods if the underworld so thank you but this was a great adaptation as you mention.
I have reacted to Geoff solo stuff and I got a playlist on my channel. I will note down those recommendations tho for Geoff and see what I can do 😊

I already loved this medley, but when I learned the story behind what each deity was about, it got SO MUCH better.
Layne "Guardian" is Cerberus, 3-headed guard dog of Hades (thus the fur coat and a sword rather than teeth).
Eli "Yama Nirvana" is the Hindu god of death, who carries a mace to capture the souls of those who sinned.
J.None "Anubis" is the Egyptian god of death and Guardian of the Scales.
Geoff "Baron" is from Haitian Vodou, Baron Samedi, the lwa (deity) of death and resurrection.
Cerberus stays near the edge of the stage, guarding the entrance of this afterlife. Anubis weighs one's heart on a scale to see if it is as light as a feather and thus worthy of entering the realm of the dead. Earl's heart passes the test.
However, Earl shows a desire to continue to live, which cues the Baron.
Unlike the others who are there to make sure Earl passes into the afterlife and stays there, Baron Samedi is there to see if Earl is worthy of resurrection. It's why he stands apart from the others, watching and judging, and why there is a bit of rivalry between the other deities and the Baron: Yama gets right in his face, while Anubis and Cerberus toss little insults and side-eyes at him. The Baron has the power to bring Earl back to life, thus he's a rival to the others.
The Baron's cane on "Under Pressure" is the first weapon down, because it's not there to hurt Earl, but to block the others who could capture his soul. The Baron has not yet decided if this man is worthy of life and won't let the other gods take him yet.
Then Earl battles the deities. The first who must go is Cerberus if he is to escape this afterlife, then Yama and Anubis. Finally, our bass god Geoff truly becomes "the Final Boss" who Earl must banish. Rather than an aggressive stance against Earl like Layne's Cerberus with his sword drawn, the Baron stands his ground at first, but then starts to turn away, realizing Earl truly does want to live. So the Baron grants him resurrection and gets poofed away.
At the very end, the gold medallion on Earl's neck is gone, payment to the Baron to return him to life.
All of this was inspired by Earl's very real medical emergency, and the fact that Freddie Mercury had a fascination with mythology. I feel he would wildly approve of this medley.

That rock vocal Geoff does here ("... bad mistakes, I've made a few..."), would more typically be Eli's part. I think the reason they had Geoff do it here, is because they're playing up the rivalry between the characters: Geoff (as the Baron) does that, and then Eli responds ("... You took me for everything that I have and kicked me out of my home..."), creating dramatic tension that is ultimately resolved when the human character, played by Earl, decides to take control of his own fate.
