i am saber fan, and i still think that all of "heroine X" "alter lancer" and other are not needed, and making other Servants saberfaces also - it takes both from their and artoria's character
No I don't think so, Carnival Phantasm is a crossover work of famous Type-Moon series which is "Tsukihime" and "Fate" also other characters like Sion from Melty Blood a visual novel fighting game btw (also by Type-Moon) Fate/Zero characters and even Ryougi Shiki of Kara no Kyoukai (another series by Type-Moon) had cameo apperance in one of the episodes so it is not just Fate it's the whole Nasuverse dressed as a comedy variety show haha

The only way would be that fate apocrypha was the first step for generating gotcha servants. For me the story was not particulary good. After this point we are in the fate pokemon universum. Servants don‘t need a master so they can go crazy with the ammount of servants.
Nasuverse Fate is worth picking up but the main universe which consists of Fate stay night, UBW, HF, HA, Zero and Lord El Mellio case files. The other Fate like Extra and the others have decent writing just not as good as the Main Universe but if you want read other Fate that are on the same level of writing of the Main Universe that would be fate/Prototype, Fate/Strange Fake, Fate Requiem, and FGO.

@Chipo Bh Yeah, here's a little extract from an interview from Nasu and Takeuchi during HF release: "Q (Dyumi): Can Sakura in the other routes (FATE and UBW) live just like ordinary girls? Even if she doesn’t run out of control like in HF route, I’m worried about how the insects affect her. N: ………. T: Why are you silent? N: …….... T: Say something! N: Believe in your dreams. "

There's also the Japanese VAs of Ritsuka/Gudao and Saber herself just said on an Aniplex stream that they want to see the Fate route remade.
There might be a slight chance. I remember not to long ago there was a Chaldea broadcast with kadoc zemlupus va saying something about the original route needs a remake and the other directors agreed. So there might be a slight chance?
Connor's inability to understand how a visual novel works with multiple routes and endings, and how adapting that just becomes a clusterfuck due to essentially adapting the same game 3 times without it being clear to people who have never played the source material, never ceases to astound me. I get that he just thinks it's bullshit and to be fair it is, but what Garnt is explaining is really not difficult to grasp lol
he seems to just dismiss it for the meme considering he's just saying to start with zero. but yeah, as an outsider explaining the three different routes essentially are following different endings in a video game isn't hard for a nerd to understand honestly. they talked about collecting girlfriends, couldve just said the routes are for different girls lol

@saber 1616 Uuuuuhh.....I think I should just stay away from fate and it's Gacha hell. But I will watch those 3 or 4 adaptations that Gigguk and Joey just recommended to know about it's universal lore. And the first adaptation as well.
@@ericchoi1515 Tsukihime is Type-Moon's first VN, about a vampire, a boy, and his ability to see 'the death of things'. Mahoyo is a story that details the backstory of one of the Nasuverse's big side characters, Aozaki Aoko. Lastly, Kara no Kyoukai/KnK - The Garden of Sinners in English - is the tale of a young woman struggling with her murderous impulses while working for a detective agency that investigates paranormal activity. Of the three, only KnK has a good adaptation (Ufotable's first Type-Moon work). You can thank KnK for why we have so many Fate things these days. Takeuchi's love of the original KnK novel caused him to reach out to Nasu and offer to support Nasu writing full time. That eventually grew into the establishment of Type-Moon and the publication of Tsukihime as a doujin work. Fate/Stay Night came off of Tsukihime's success, and while DEEN might have butchered the Fate adaptation, Ufotable did a great job on the KnK adaptation films a year later. That's probably why they managed to snag the contract for Fate/Zero, which they did a phenomenal job on, getting a better adaptation of the UBW route. After that... well, the series had a LOT of momentum behind it. (This doesn't get into the Extraverse adding momentum, either. Which it did. While Fate/Extra was considered 'Not bad, but a bit clunky gameplay wise', Fate/Extra CCC was considered to be one of the better games released for the PSP)

Its not hard to explain to people outside of the fandom. People just focus on ALL the wrong stuff and overcomplicate shit for no reason. Most of these series are *completely* independent of each other. You can watch ANYTHING and understand the lore. The common link is just the world. You don't need to understand saber to enjoy fate. You don't need to understand any of the main cast to enjoy the other series. You don't need to understand Tsukihime. You don't need to know all three routes. Everything is perfectly enjoyable by itself. Stop making it seem hard.
Is not that complicated for God fucking sake all you had to tell is to watch the main universe of Fate and then watch the entire summarization of each route.
Yeah when you're that deep into the fate franchise then you can understand what they're saying, and they're not even talking about the spinoffs and connor is already confused lol
"Just watch Zero and UBW" Yeah I can agree with that. "You'll understand all the lore" * Heaven's Feel, Apocrypha, Extra approaching rapidly. Grand Order looming in the distance. *
The simple explanation: Source Material: Visual Novel "Fate Stay Night". Decision based game leads to 3 outcomes. Thus 3 anime created based on the 3 outcomes. + Prequel anime Fate Zero. Line end. Close loop. STORY OVER. OTHER: A bunch of spinoff series that loosely tie to the original story. BASICALLY, food for the fans who want more! DONE! Not hard at all!
Connor: Things kinda got high concept on me pretty quickly Garnt: You think this is high concept. Let’s talk about the Moon Type-Moon fans: You be quiet about the Moon
Despite what scientist say the Moon is indeed made of cheese not rock and dust, this confusion is in fact due to the type of cheese it is made of that cheese being Parmesan.
Me explaining to a friend how the earth and the moon are both living things and the World is just Gaia’s mental landscape projected over the physical universe, so it makes perfect sense that Ea is an Anti-World Noble Phantasm when it can’t actually destroy the planet: *THIS IS THE SHORT VERSION.*
"I saw a spider, so I threw a table at it. It survived, so I threw a cabinet. This continued. The spider escaped, but I assure you, I mean to track it down"

@Not Actually Satan fair enough, but I'm enjoying the fact that I can get multiple characters from a bunch of my favorite animes and LN's instead of just a bunch of characters from one series. Also the drop rates are a lot better. Even though the story and gameplay isn't that good or engaging I still enjoy it. Also main reason I don't have FGO is the fact that it isn't available in my country, and before you ask no I don't have a VPN because I'm still in highschool and my parents don't think one is necessary.
Fate/stay Night in a nutshell (with only anime and visual novels/eroge): The original visual novel is three routes: Fate (the Saber ending, or boy's ideal ending), Unlimited Blade Works (the Rin ending, coming to terms as a young man who has to face the challenge of your ideals versus reality), and Heavens Feel (the Sakura ending, accepting reality and bringing about the most ideal ending as man or something). Fate/stay Night is about the events of the 5th Holy Grail War of Fuyuki City, it occurring 10 years after the previous war, which the main character, Shirou Emiya, happened to be a survivor of the fallout. Fate/hollow ataraxia - a spinoff/sequel to the original Fate/stay Night that does what Kagetsu Tohya did to Tsukihime and is a giant visual novel clusterfuck of routes and such. Also, it focuses on the original Servant of Lancer and the Servant class Avenger. Required for Carnival Phantasm jokes (so not to understand the Fate franchise... but kinda) Fate/stay Night (2006) anime - adaptation of the Fate route with a little touch of UBW + HF. Considered pretty bad by today's standards due to age and the slightly half-assed-ness of the first anime adaptation. Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (film) (2010) trash. Don't watch it. Literally is a waste pf 105 minutes. Made Fate fans around the world angry both old and young (when they realized how shit it was) Fate/Zero (2011) - prequel of Fate/stay Night, which focuses on the 4th Holy Grail War. Focuses on the Servants and Masters of that time, including Shirou's adoptive father, Emiya Kiritsugu, and his Servant, Saber. Like... actual Saber from FSN. Also, this would herald in ufotable making all official Fate-related media, which is to all of our benefits. Fate/Prototype (2011) - a retelling of the Fate/stay Night story based on the original prototype ideas of if Emiya Shirou were an emo girl and Arturia Pendragon instead of being a girl, was a bishi-as-fuck bishounen. This is a totes accurate summary of it. Also, this is the equivalent of a 12-minute trailer. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya (2013) - spinoff magical girl anime series animated by Silver Link. Fate/kaleid is the story of "normal" 10-year-old Illyasviel and her chance encouter with Ruby to become a magical girl. Second season is very loli police-inducing, but overall the show has some very solid elements and helps expand the lore of Fate. But... if you don't like lolis then just skip. Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV) (2014) - an amazing anime adaptation of the Unlimited Blade Works route of the original Fate/stay Night adaptation. Has many references to Fate/Zero and the original Fate/stay Night visual novel (some of which are lost in the Fate/stay Night anime from 2006, so can't say those references carry over). Fate/stay Night" Heaven's Feel (2017) - a series of three films that focuses on the Heavens Feel route of FSN. Actually, pretty amazing and another highly recommended on my part if you've found yourself in this Fate rabbit hole. Today's Menu for the Emiya Family (2018) - spinoff that can best be described as taking place in the Fate/hollow ataraxia timeline? Essentially, just Shirou cooking good food for the entire cast of Fate/stay Night, friends and former-enemies included. Cute and short. The Case Files of Lord El Melloi II (2019) - a Fate-related spinoff focuses on Waver Velvet, now holding the rank of Lord in the Clock Tower as El Melloi the Second. This is the story of Waver/El Melloi's struggles on his road to catch up to his King, Iskandr. Recommended watch post Fate/Zero. Future series are not listed at this time. And as discussed before, this is a focus on the Fate/stay Night portion of the Fate franchise. If you'd like to fall deeper into the rabbit hole, there are a slew of other games, light novels, manga, anime, etc. Fate/Extra, Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Strange Fake, and Fate Grand Order share lore elements with FSN, but are ultimately all separate from the Fate/stay Night story and universe. Also Carnival Phantasm while made mention of, is a 2011 OVA series that takes the characters from the Fate franchise and the characters from other Type Moon franchises, especially Tsukihime, and combines them for a hilarious gag series. The order to watch is pretty simple. Just go down the list. If you don't want to start from the crappy stuff, just start at Fate/Zero. You can ignore spinoffs if you'd like.
Even shorter: Watch fate zero then unlimited blade works. You can then watch heaven feels (other way fifth war happens). If you want more watch stay night (other way fifth war happened, outdated), fate extra last encore (parallel future universe), fate apocrypha (parallel universe). The rest is trash/for the hardcore fans.

Same dude. I watched it when I was starting to watch anime since I see UBW in tons of best anime fight scenes. I remember really loving it at the time and them saying its shit wants me to rewatch it again. But I don't really wanna ruin my first memory as a Fate fan from 3 years ago so...
Some people actually like Stay Night better than UBW. It's simple and have good ending. It's not shit actually, Studio Deen just doesn't have the animation tech we have now
@@reginaldrasyid2456 Here I am, due to a very personal taste and experience, FSN is my favourite anime of all time, and I'm fucking serious... I still remember when I watched the ending, and then I discovered the True End... as good as UBW may be, here is 100% a matter of heart, and no anime moved me like Fate 2006 did... it was all, OST, charachter design, like a dream...
that's the outer circle, the last frontier for any fate fans lets be honest, you can't 100% understand Fate if you have no basic understanding of the Nasuverse
Fate isnt as complicated as people make it out to be Edit: I wanna share my opinion on this bc the reply section is a warzone. this will be brief bc i dont wanna spoil anything for newcomers. My take is that choose: fate/zero or fate/stay night ubw. I prefer to choose fate/Zero bc it gives an understanding of the character of saber and why certain characters are in ubw. (AFTER ubw watch heavens feels no matter what. NOT before) ubw is also really good but in my opinion it can be a better experience by the help of zero. (dont watch the movie. watch the show by ufotable) fate stay night deen 2006 is how i started and it really is mediocre. It explains the lore the best but mostly is bland throughout. if u can push through it, go for it but i wouldnt recommend. The ones i mention above are main timeline and it should be one of them as for how you get into fate. the spinoffs dont explain a lot like Fate/Grand Order or Fate/Extra last encore. Note: the visual novel is a good answer but the unavailability of it plays a key factor and the commitment of being on it for a 100 hours will bother people since you can finish the main shows in less than 30 hours. (including deen it would be 42hours) Thats it . I commend u for reading all this
It says in the visual novel But not in the anime If you don't know the origin you will go to a route after another saying things like "why is this character back alive? Why is the same war happening again?"
One way to explain this series: Kaleidoscope. Meaning: there’s an infinite number of timelines, leading to Nasu to do whatever he wants. Basically in a sense Zelretch is Nasu
That makes a lot of sense. I do want to know Zelretch’s origin story though. At his peak he took out the Moon avatar but then ended up as a vampire after doing so right? Then he just stuck around d*cking around the kaleidoscope.
@@TheNobleFive it is like star wars 4-6(original) &1-3 (prequel). Heaven feel is star war 4-6 where Luke learn he has a twin, how he was separated and who is his father. Zero is star war 1-3 where we saw Luke father perspective. Watching zero first is like watching star war prequel none of star wars fans will ever told you to start with it first.
The thing that confused me most about the Fate series is the in-universe magic system Seriously, you could write a college thesis analyzing the ins and outs of the mage craft system
Seriously. So much stuff like origins and elemental affinities, and even the elemental affinity part isn't intuitive. You'd think someone who has wind and water affinity can cast wind and water based magecraft not unlike jutsu in naruto but nope, that just gives them power over flow and lets them manipulate mercury. (Tho please correct me if im wrong, i just paraphrased that from what i understood after reading kayneth el-melloi's wiki page)
And despite that there's still "technicality" loophole bs everywhere Like they make up so much rules and limitations only for the main characters/villains to break it via some unexpected backdoor. It always starts with "hey you can't do X" but later change to "well if you have ABC condition fulfilled then you technically can do X but may or may not be permanently crippled and/or dead" or something along the line.
How to get into the Fate Franchise. Step 1: Play the VN or at least the first route If that's not possible or enjoyable from your perspective, watch Blade Works, Heaven's Feel, and Zero. You have now learned 99.99% of the lore
Honestly tho, if you are putting in the effort of starting from the VN, finish it. ubw can be experienced with the anime, although shirou isn’t really written too well in the anime adaptation, but heavens feel you absolute should read the VN if you consider reading the VN in the first place.
It doesn't add that much from the other routes. Have you even watched it? Besides, that only really matters if you've already read the fate route which most newcomers obviously wouldn't have done before watching it.
Agreed, that's the main reason it sucks. I hope Ufotable does a proper Fate route adaptation, be it movies or series. I think you wouldn't even need a full two season series like UBW, maybe 15 or so episodes (they can skip a lot of the "basic tutorial" part from the VN)
I feel like people should watch a fanedit of the show instead to avoid the spoilers. But, I have to remind you that it still stayed on the Fate route till the very end despite mixing some of the two routes into its story.
@@blackchase6732 it's not. It is said that Nasu originally worked on Illya's route but then it was scrapped. Kaleid is a completely different spin off.
The real problem is that whenever someone tries to explain that it's not complicated, they also try to explain how people made it so complicated, which always ends up making things seem complicated lol.
For people wanting to get into the Fate series as I fairly recently did, here is the no meme easy to understand explanation. The original visual novel had 3 different routes that you could play through. All three of the routes started relatively similarly, but then depending on the players choices, the midpoint to the endings changed dramatically depending on which route your choices made you end up going in. (On a side note, you had to play through the routes chronologically in the first place, but that is neither here nor there). Those three routes were called the Fate route, the Unlimited Blade Works Route and the Heaven's Feel route. So for people wanting to get into the Fate anime's right now, here is my personal recommendation of how you should go about it: Fate Route (Studio Deen) - Not a great adaptation, but the story is essential and it will also make you appreciate the animation in the other routes 100x more. Not awful mind you, and still worth watching, if only to prepare you for the later routes. Unlimited Blade Works (ufotable) - Second route, and my personal favorite. It's what made me become a hardcore fan. Fate Zero (ufotable) - This is a prequel to all three Fate Stay Night routes and isn't part of the original visual novel. However watching it after UBW is the perfect place in my opinion. It expects you to have at least seen the Fate route, so if you watch it at any other point, it spoils some later reveals from the other routes. So in my opinion this is the best place for it because the things it would have spoiled, you will have already seen the reveals for. It also sets up some backstory that very smoothly leads you into the Heaven's Feel route. Heaven's Feel (ufotable) - The third and final route, what has been adapted into three movies.
And for those who want to go deeper into fate, all other stories are pretty much standalone. They take the general concept of fate but twist the rules and as to not break the OG Canon they are disconnected alternate stories. Case it point apocrypha. It wants to have historicaly and mythological figueres fight each other but doesn´t want a 7 player battle royale but rather a 7 a side team deathmatch. Other stories take the concept of heroes fighting each other and gives its own spin on it. FGO is one Giant hub where all alternate Stories interconnect, because FGO prints money and wants to bounce of of these stories and take the servants from them into the Gacha so people pay ungodly amounts of money for them.... It also due to it´s nature as being a story driven game that went on for 8 years now heavily expanded the lore and the rules of the universe, but if you play through it you can follow it along fairly easily since it spreads its information across it´s now I think 22 or 23 Story chapters and many more events.
As someone who started with Carnival Phantasm, I still thought that show was funny even if I never knew about any of the characters. And then as I slowly immersed myself in everything fate/nasuverse, all the jokes slowly clicked, until finally, I got every single one of them. Now I just want my Herc Summer Lancer Class that uses Cu as his Weapon with Boomalancer as his NP.
Discussing the Nasu Verse is one of my favorite things. I'm fortunate enough to have started with the Tsukihime VN and then the Fate/Stay Night VN. Y'all think Fate is complicated, try making sense of the connections and differences between Tsukihime and Melty Blood 👀
I don't think even Nasu understands what he;s doing anymore, like if there's a hole somewhere on a story that he wrote like 10 years ago that contradicts one thing he wants to make in GO he just goes along and say "fuck it"

I do plan on reading FSN visual novel first but wouldn't it spoil the anime for me? I mean UBW look pretty darn good so I kinda want to have a first hand experience but then they're people saying read VN first...what I've decided is - FSN VN > Fate zero anime > UBW anime > HF anime But the only problem is that...I mean, I just want to know that is VN good enough that I can afford getting spoiled for anime
@@BrainDeadSpider the visual novel is more detailed and hit me really hard even after watching the animes (except for HF which i watched after finishing the VN). @@mrln.bllmnn So basically I should follow FSN VN > UBW > HF > Fate Zero anime. Just a little concerned about animation quality with time...I mean, HF would be really good when compared to Zero (2011). That's the only thing, if it's not that big of a deal, then I'll go with this order.

The whole “where do I start fate” memes are just like the “it just works” meme for king crimson. It’s a simple ability that gets over complicated by the fandom
Exactly the way i explain it is that KC and epitaph are technically 2 seperate stands Epitaph: predicts future outcomes KC: locks in what epitaph sees and removes people's awareness for a few seconds allowing its user to change their own outcome The confusion mainly stems from the risotto fight where bullets phase through him but later has to deflect them
Me who never watched nor read anything about Fate, but are reading fanfiction about it and unironically starting to understand fate franchise *My goals are beyond your understanding*
Just so you know if you've read that shit about Zeltretch being a massive troll is fanon. He's actually only on screen shown being really nice grandfatherly type and helping people out. The author has said he's similar to Jotaro Kujo so he probably has a strong sense of justice.
Just so you know, don’t ever say this on any of the major fate forums like Beast’s Lair or the fate section of Spacebattles. They would tear you to shreds for saying that. That being said here are some common fanon that arose mainly due to fanfiction. Common fanon: - Shirou can use Avalon: He cannot it must be powered by Arturia’s own od - The world rejects Shirou’s projections: A common misconception is that the world naturally erases Shirou’s projections. This is not true as in the VN Shirou has a convo with Rin and mentions his projections only fading when they break. -Gaia hates humanity: This is also not true. Humanity are her children and planets have no concept of hate. Primate Murder only exists if Fou is exposed to the worst of humanity and Gaia only orders the death of humanity in Notes due to humans outliving the planet and living on its dead corpse. -Archer uses a suicidal sword style: This arose due to the internal monologue of Archer during the 2nd Lancer vs Archer fight where he uses fake openings to counter Lancer’s speed. This is only a technique that he has notably used against Lancer. To cut the long and short of it this style is only able to work due to the type of fighter that Lancer is. -Shirou has amnesia: In Heaven’s Feel there is a scene where Shirou goes to the park and walks to where his old apartment was and remembers fragments of his old life before suppressing it. It’s not that he doesn’t remember it’s that he avoids thinking about it to avoid the pain. There are others but these are some of the big ones I see in fanfiction that were proliferated by fanfiction authors like Third Fang, Parcasious, and Gabriel Blessing.
@Joonatan Isoaho The worst part about the fire isn’t his loss of everything, rather it’s the fact that that singular event defines everything he does on into infinity. It prevents him from being able to see his own life as something valuable on its own and makes him believe all his worth comes from his ability to help others.
Considering that it was out in the year 2006 it was quite good and although it's not the best from the series, it certainly have a special place in my hearth because that's the first one that I decided to watch and it was Saber's route
@@IvPunisherG tsukihime is a series that is part of the nasuverse (the same cinematic universe of which the fate series is a part of). It doesn't focus on the holy grail wars tho, it mostly centers on vampires and demon hunters.
personally I like Fate and Emiya more though I only finished Arc, Ciel, and Akiha routes as of yet. Want to get back to it and finish it up at some point. If I were to rate my favorite Nasuverse stuff it'd probably be F/SN at the top followed by Kara no Kyoukai, Zero, Tsuki, and Mahoyo (though like with tsukihime haven't finished mahoyo since the patch is only up to chapter 8 right now).
From what I understand: Fate stay night = Saber Route (but shit) Fate/Zero = Prequel to Fate stay night (adapted from light novels/not visual novel) Fate stay night unlimited blade works = Rin Route Fate stay night Heaven’s Feel movie trilogy = Sakura Route (Preferably the Kotomine Route) Anything else with “Fate” in the title = Some spin off stuff that isn’t necessarily canon to the main franchise. (Maybe)
Fate - introduction route + romace with King Arthur route. Unlimited Blade Works - Archer route (like seriously there isn't that much more Rin here than in other routes, but Archer completly dominates the plot). Heaven's Feel - Sakura route with Lillya and Kirei thrown to the mix. Also horror route.
The problem of FSN adaptation is the nature of FSN as a visual novel. Nasu created a phantasy world and the purpose of FSN was to describe this world. As a visual novel, each route of FSN reveals a fraction of this phantom world, so there are many plots in one route which are not explained properly at that moment, but will be echoed in another route in this game. This brings a special experience for the players. The best way of watching fate is fate (06) -> fate ubw -> fate HF. You will see the change of emiya shirou and how he deal with the problem of idealism.
Yup - it's like with Tsukihime all over again: gotta start with original route first and then immerse slowly. Seriously, I know there's some weird Fate Zero thing where they watch that but, for me, it's unnecessary. The fact that people want some kind of express version or "How-to" defeats the purpose of the original media - it's meant to be an exploration of a universe not a complete story in itself. It's like saying describing everything in the Old and New Testament but skip out all the boring bits. On another note, I have immensely enjoyed revisiting Fate-Stay/Night by following your exact route: Fate (06) -> UBW: Movie -> UBW: Tv series -> Fate: HF. In fact, it made me revise that I am more of a Rin fan than a Saber fan but, deep down, the Fate route has always been my preferred route.
The hardest part about fate is having people telling you its complicated when in reality its not because if you experience it in a normal ass way things flow naturally
Honesty just start wherever you feel like or are interested in. This is just my recommendation: Fate/Stay Night Réalta Nua ultimate edition: Fate route>UBW route True ending>Heaven's Feel route True ending>Last Episode (VN) Note: Censor on until after Heaven's Feel classroom dream. Alternatively: UBW ep0>Fate/Stay Night TV Reproduction>UBW series>Heaven's Feel 1/3 (Anime) Fate/Zero S1/2 (Anime) The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II ep1 (Anime) Rin's regret (Manga) Kara no Kyoukai 1/7+Epilogue (Anime)
I've been into Fate for over two years now and I still have so much games and shows of it to play and watch. I love it though because you can never get bored of the franchise.
Here's the long and short of it: If you don't start with the Fate/Stay Night visual novel, your experience WILL be less enjoyable, though still good. Period. If you don't care about that, you can start anywhere except for the Heaven's Feel movies.
Started with F/Z. Best anime I've ever seen. Finished with Unlimited Blade Works. That was my Fate experience, and I was fully satisfied with the story I experienced.

What’s that
The Nasuverse is a beautiful, terrible mess

Fate/stay Night in a nutshell (with only anime and visual novels/eroge):
The original visual novel is three routes: Fate (the Saber ending, or boy's ideal ending), Unlimited Blade Works (the Rin ending, coming to terms as a young man who has to face the challenge of your ideals versus reality), and Heavens Feel (the Sakura ending, accepting reality and bringing about the most ideal ending as man or something).
Required for Carnival Phantasm jokes (so not to understand the Fate franchise... but kinda)
Fate/stay Night (2006) anime - adaptation of the Fate route with a little touch of UBW + HF. Considered pretty bad by today's standards due to age and the slightly half-assed-ness of the first anime adaptation.
Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (film) (2010) trash. Don't watch it. Literally is a waste pf 105 minutes. Made Fate fans around the world angry both old and young (when they realized how shit it was)
Fate/Zero (2011) - prequel of Fate/stay Night, which focuses on the 4th Holy Grail War.
Even shorter:
Watch fate zero then unlimited blade works. You can then watch heaven feels (other way fifth war happens).
If you want more watch stay night (other way fifth war happened, outdated), fate extra last encore (parallel future universe), fate apocrypha (parallel universe). The rest is trash/for the hardcore fans.

fate/zero or fate/stay night ubw. I prefer to choose fate/Zero bc it gives an understanding of the character of saber and why certain characters are in ubw. (AFTER ubw watch heavens feels no matter what. NOT before)
ubw is also really good but in my opinion it can be a better experience by the help of zero. (dont watch the movie. watch the show by ufotable)
fate stay night deen 2006 is how i started and it really is mediocre.
(including deen it would be 42hours)

The thing that confused me most about the Fate series is the in-universe magic system
Seriously, you could write a college thesis analyzing the ins and outs of the mage craft system
The very fact THERE IS college system of each of entire magecraft is amusing.
Well there's a completely different series about that.
And then you realize that not everything is Magecraft. Pain.
And despite that there's still "technicality" loophole bs everywhere
Like they make up so much rules and limitations only for the main characters/villains to break it via some unexpected backdoor. It always starts with "hey you can't do X" but later change to "well if you have ABC condition fulfilled then you technically can do X but may or may not be permanently crippled and/or dead" or something along the line.
"How can you abridge something that complicated?"
Well first off, let's talk about the Moon
You better be quiet about the Moon!
we need to make a PHD for fate knowledge
How to get into the Fate Franchise.
Step 1: Play the VN or at least the first route
If that's not possible or enjoyable from your perspective, watch Blade Works, Heaven's Feel, and Zero.
You have now learned 99.99% of the lore
Do not watch Heaven's Feel first. I feel that needs to be specified
You don't know shit about fate if you think it's true

Cosem I mean, the only good thing Deen/stay night added to Fate route was Archer using UBW against Berserker (and still dying anyway)

So for people wanting to get into the Fate anime's right now, here is my personal recommendation of how you should go about it:
Fate Route (Studio Deen) - Not a great adaptation, but the story is essential and it will also make you appreciate the animation in the other routes 100x more.
I agree this is the best order to watch to get into Fate.
My recommendation: Don’t start with Carnival Phantasm
Instructions unclear. Started with Prisma Illya Season 2
As someone who started with Carnival Phantasm, I still thought that show was funny even if I never knew about any of the characters. sorry to say that’s not really how it works...
"fanfiction" of course..haha of course "fanfiction" *wink wink*
Just so you know, don’t ever say this on any of the major fate forums like Beast’s Lair or the fate section of Spacebattles. They would tear you to shreds for saying that. That being said here are some common fanon that arose mainly due to fanfiction.
Common fanon:
- Shirou can use Avalon: He cannot it must be powered by Arturia’s own od
- The world rejects Shirou’s projections: A common misconception is that the world naturally erases Shirou’s projections.
Unlimited Blade Works - Archer route (like seriously there isn't that much more Rin here than in other routes, but Archer completly dominates the plot).
Heaven's Feel - Sakura route with Lillya and Kirei thrown to the mix. Also horror route.

The fate franchise is like swimming, throw yourself in and learn how to swim. I know almost everything about fate but I also ironically can’t swim.
