I think he always was a good person. I can’t even list any bad thing he did, he just followed orders from a man he thought was focused on progressing humanity, which was Rykiel’s new goal. He even accepts that his harsh life was from his own shortcomings, and not from the world around him. He’s only an antagonist, not a villain

We’re supposed to cheer for the protagonists as a guy we’ve come to know as a good person is beaten and killed. It even has the triumphant chorus of the SO theme play while he’s beaten. And it doesn’t feel good. It sucks.
Ungalo is closer to Dario, Versus is closer to Dio, and Rykiel is closer to Jonathan with aspects of DIO thrown in. One is a miserable drug-using wreck, another is a scheming and hateful person, and Rykiel is hopeful, looking towards the progression of humanity. One of these is not like the others.

I just noticed that in the anime of Jojo whenever they can they put the fire in purple for example: Polnaref vs Avdol Narancia vs Formaggio And now Rykiel vs Jolyne
It's not the confirmed reason but I like to think that because purple fire is often considered mystical and bizarre, they use it to symbolize how strange and otherworldly the series is.

Just realized this now, but even the stand punch barrages look so skimp in stone ocean. I think in regards to the premise that diu looks as bad as stone ocean, I think the direction of part 4 holds up a lot better than the direction for stone ocean. Everyone memes on the scene where killer queen and kira confront shigechi, but what made that scene so compelling was the direction. Its music, the pacing of the scene, the script and much more im not articulate enough to convey, comes together to make a compelling whole. Im definitely going to check out stone oceans blu ray to see how much of this ship can be course corrected, my biggest beef is the cgi, but if the BD's are good I pray they aren't as expensive as every other jojo BD holy fuck why are they priced like that.
