I found this for the same reason...at conclusion of the same House episode. Because our body's physical senses limit us to such a narrow range of perception of the quantum reality that surrounds us, in some ways, it is a cage. At the same time, without those protections, the overload of the sensory input would be way too much exposure for our insufficiently developed minds. Maybe someday we will realize that we're already dancing with the one we love.

That's because Peter's version is not the original. He is covering a song by the Arcade Fire. The lyrics in the video are taken from the original Arcade Fire lyrics but Peter changed this line. I would love to know why. Personally I like Peter's lyric as an addition to the Arcade Fire lyric but not in place of. Like the song is one in a million because it is so honest and doesn't sugarcoat the hard part. And reality is you can think you're better and try to do what you feel you're meant to do and then someone will laugh at you and set you back. As a queer woman with a chromosomal disorder and health problems this song hits on both fronts. You face your physical and emotional limitations and still achieve something and then you are faced with derision and prejudice. However trying and putting myself out there has given me the experiences and feelings I need to keep going, hope to try again, and think life has something worth living for. I have a wife so "realize I'm dancing with the one I love" has also happened and I'm grateful for that. In short I like Peter's line but I like the original more because I feel it keeps the honesty of the challenges that is essential to the song. But Peter's also has truth and is a nice addition. I get the impression that Gabriel was trying to be more theatrical. darker melodies, dramatic strings, and then I guess he decided to tell a different story so it sounds more like a bit of redemption toward the end.
House was a smart drama. If people don't like drama that make you think and doesn't layout all the final answers for you then I can see why someone wouldn't like it. It was a serious medical drama, it was geared towards the more mature and intellectual viewers.

I think the lyric is different, with a quite different meaning: 'Just because YOU'RE forgotten' [not 'you've], Doesn't mean you're forgiven'. Your interpretation is very fundamentalist Christian, having to do with the punishment of those who forget God; that is not the theme of the lyrics, which have to do rather with feeling powerless, with a misalignment between one's body and one's mind, one's desires and one's physical limitations, one's self-perception and self-understanding and the way one is perceived/ignored by one's society. The lyric has NOTHING to do with Christianity and the doctrine of punishment. The poet is singing 'just because you're forgotten' (even in the case that your socially imposed/socially perceived bodily self is forgotten by society), even that social 'death' doesn't entail the end of your suffering----you will still not be 'forgiven'---your externally perceived social self will suffer due to the perception of others. This could be due to your *internalizing the hatred* of your external, social self (if you are 'unloved' due to being physically deformed, disabled, different, a social reject for whatever reason) or it could be due to your inheriting the rejection of your 'type': even if your individual self is 'forgotten', you are still rejected/unforgiven as falling into a type.
