    MacG has built his platform on authenticity to the point that artists feel obliged to come to the podcast to tell their truth and the audience also prefer artists to tell their stories here where there's transparency. The brand of the podcast is literally Transparency. The ignorance, histerity, silliness and rawness is all part of it.

    It's always important to listen to 2 sides of the story. And believe what you want.I don't know who's telling the truth.But one thing I agree to him abt is the FACT that, ALCOHOL,DRUGS,WOMEN, FAME and BAD FRIENDS can destroy someone ,especially ARTISTS. But no artist admit that when they have fallen,they always blame others.

      He’s being economical with the truth, to put it politely. I can’t be that almost all your artists associated with drugs. They are doing these stuff while you are so close to them that you even practically share hotel rooms with them. You even admit one of them left your studio and went straight to a fatal street racing accident that the courts would later show happened under influence of drugs. And it’s all their fault, nothing to do with you or studio. I don’t buy it.

    This episode is proof that artists need to STUDY MUSIC BUSINESS, READ those contracts line by line, read the fine print and not just sign their lives away nomikanjani. Most important though, they must be FINANCIALLY INTELLIGENT with their money, have an end goal in mind and work towards it. The fact that we STILL have artists crying foul, getting handouts, garnering sympathy from the public, after they have frittered their own money in this day and age, says a lot. There have been so many examples of failures that artists need to learn from, what pitfalls to avoid. Information is readily available! Get into the business of READING and understanding your worth, else you perpetuate the stereotype of a “dumbed down” industry.

    MacG once did a show with artist managers, must say it gave some light on how they work. Maybe boMac can do a show an invite guests (experts or knowledgeable ppl) to explain issues related to contacts e.g. labels owning artists' Masters, how artists make money while trapped in this contracts, music streaming (illegal vs legal onces) and artists who write their own music can protect themselves. It will give some us a clear picture of dynamics involved that result in artists being broke. It will also help us understand the exploitative nature of the music industry and will in turn empower us to channel our (consumers) money in streams that will empower artists we love. Just one show nje unpacking legal aspects and business side of music from the artists perspective.

  • @katlegomogotsi8880
    @katlegomogotsi8880 2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    So dope to hear Lance break down SA Music history. It's obvious the deals that were in place that time didn't favour the artists, and the artists themselves didn't understand how the industry worked - but you also have to understand their backgrounds, for most who have never even finished high school, how do you expect them to understand the intricacies of contracts, royalties, splits, masters, publishing etc - For sure artists were exploited, but also if you're a label owner & you have invested so much in an artist, you expect return on investment, spending millions on an artist just for them to go bust and then they turn around and insult you on social media... WHEN THEY STILL OWE YOU MONEY... it's tricky but I understand both sides. Danko for the insightful content gents!

    I appreciate that Lance is/was running a business and artists may not entirely be saints. Both surely benefitted from the relationship. However, lest we forget that record labels were like a mafia of the time, they literally had contacts everywhere within the mainstream media space and for that very same reason when mainstream media collapsed, it took them down with it. All it took was a few phone calls to make or break an artist. Artists are more liberated now thanks to online platforms. I mean... the man is still crying over Musica, that tells you how much of a relationship he had with such businesses.

    The takeaway from this episode: artists get away with a lot of things 'cause of their victim mentality/native because they know their fans will always side with them. According to them, Its never their fault that their career tanked. Its true Z7 had everything for a moment, is it entirely Lance fault that he (an adult) lost it? When do we also start questioning artists role in their downfalls?

    All of us make mistakes and we're never perfect. Despite of what might have transpired, it is always great to listen to both sides of the story. I think not only Lance has had his way with artists' royalties, I think many other label owners have done this but perhaps not at a level where it was obvious. We appreciate Lance for coming over, nonetheless every artist is responsible for ensuring that they handle their status well. A lot of these artists will never admit when they're at fault for their own wrongdoings!

    First of all, congratulations to the biggest podcast in Africa! You guys are unmatched 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
    Thank you for providing a platform where celebrities can express themselves freely and, dare I say, as humans. A place where they can speak their truths. I enjoy these interviews because they are unconventional and not the typical Q&A mainstream feeds us.
    In the same vein, wouldn't be worth having, dare I say, a re-union-like format? I am not encouraging confrontation or violence, I do think that for the sake of truth, real truth, scenarios like Lance's need more than just one side of the story - it needs to be a dialogue of some sort. Most of the artists he handled that have come on the podcast seem to have at least one bad experience with him and he tells a different story.
    If possible, may we please get a sit down interview with Lance and two or more, willing artists, to have chats on the podcast and nothing is left unaddressed?
    I know Sol won't read this, I'm hoping that the rest of the team will.
    Muhle umsebenzi wenu. Siyabonga.

    After watching this one plus having heard stories about our artists dying broke, I'm convinced that most of them got themselves to blame. Most of them are just unprofessional, they run their brands like they are running spaza shops. If what Lance is saying about Zola is true then Zola flopped. But to an exctant I believe him because we have all seen Zola's success. One question we should all ask is "what did Zola do to protect his career/brand?" Zola was already a grown up when all crambled.

Had the Cell C not been messed up by his ego...His descendants for generations to come would never ever have had to work - Never even would they have to think about going to school, worry about where the next meal would come, worry about data for exams ... ALL his children and their next 3 - 4 generations would NEVER EVER have had to worry about .. the daily struggles we ( and they now) all go through 💔😧
