when i went to brandy for the first time, which happened to be in Oahu since maui doesn’t have brandy, i just got off the plane not even an hour before, not looking my best but not disgusting , i went to brandy so excited and optimistic and all i got as even a tall, pretty skinny, HAOLE girl, i got ugly looks and stares from all the brandy workers. never felt more unwanted and uncomfortable in a store in my ENTIRE life. I walked around the store for half an hour and couldn’t find anything but because i was the only one in the store that whole time, i felt obligated to purchase something because of all the stares and pressure i got, for example i was asked 5 times within that half an hour if i needed help by the SAME person and each time the tone of her voice getting even more irritated, even when each time i told her i was fine! honestly i love most brandy clothes and jewelry but when the workers are fake and unwelcoming it makes me think twice about purchasing their products. anywho that’s the tea lol

And one co worker had the AUDACITY to come up to me randomly and say "i think your just lazy and that is why your quitting" because he heard i was quitting due to finals coming up and school. and he was not even in school at all nor did he have a degree.... like what- ?/??? i stg thta was the dumbest thing ever said to my face

I went to a brandy last year and- they weren’t very nice to me, and I feel like they were judging me for my outfit and race which was kinda sucked because I was actually feeling good about myself that day :I but it really puts people off from actually going back to the stores due to these negative experiences and I hope that they change that, because the clothes are actually really pretty but I feel too self conscious to go back there which is kinda sad (the even worse thing was that I was really excited to go as my home country didn’t have Brandy Melville) I honestly feel like it doesn’t really matter how you look to them, because if you exude a certain vibe they’ll naturally like you, you know? They would make so much more money and have a better reputation if they did the following: ~make bigger sizes including plus sizes ~hired people of all ethnicities/races (well at least more of them) body types, weights/ sizes, and people that didnt fit into their little box of a standard. ~dont only represent skinny white girls on their instagram (they have shops all around the world)

once i went to brandy in pacific beach and im asian and dont look white whatsoever and not that skinny but the employees were nice to me. they didnt care that i took like 1000 stickers lmao
The same thing happened to me in my brandy store, I got my store style taken and gave my ig and then received a dm job offer like a week and a half later. I'm caucasian and I'm actually a size 6ish (sometimes 4 on top) so I don't always fit into brandy. I was 16 and very school focused, so I started working in summer. Honestly my experience was so bad. There were no poc at my store and all the girls were size 0-2. When my outfits were planned I tried to make excuses to wear only a brandy top and my own jeans bc I knew they wouldnt fit. Because I'm tall and (not to be arrogant, self love guys) pretty, not everyone noticed. But the manager was always picking on me. The girls were really passive aggressive sometimes too, and would leave me out of the pre-work meetups and stuff. No one cared that I did my job well. I worked there for 3 months and then I quit. I never had any friends so idk if anyone said anything about me, but I wouldnt be surprised if they did.
it was a pretty sucky experience, but i’m really happy you were open to share your story! i live on oahu too, and i always have to prepare myself when i enter so i avoid the place now after some bad experiences with their customer service.. so i just go to the small section in pacsun haha; their workers are so kind(,:

i’ve been to the brandy at ala moana multiple times! i did get some negative vibes from the workers but given i was there pretty close to closing. however i did notice that i was treated different when i was with my white passing relatives and my obviously asian relatives. but there were poc working every time i’ve gone so progress :)
