Yeah. Seulgi really deserved WAY better. It is important to note that she was not out to win at a show or anything. She was actually in it for the sake of the art. I loved it for that. More importantly though, I loved it because I am a HUGE INTROVERT. I was PAINFULLY shy as a kid so I do understand a lot of Seulgi's problems and why it took her an entire eight years to decide to do a solo project all on her own. That must have been terrifying for her, it's a giant hurdle to get over but thankfully she also has the members and crew supporting her. The whole group reacted to this and Wendy was CRAZY over it. Wendy told Seulgi that she had never seen anything like this in K-Pop, and Wendy would know because of her radio job. Nothing but praise and support for Seulgi from the group and the fans. AWESOME, I love them as a group and I am seriously SO PROUD of Seulgi for this! I don't even care that it took her this long, I care that she ever got up her courage enough, in order to do it at all. That's real bravery right there so I think it is important to mention.
@@jamescurfman3284 yes I’m also proud of her and she gave us something that will be remembered for a long time whenever her name is mentioned as a soloist ✨
We already know that seulgi is a monster performers, but come on guys we need to normalize appreciating the team behind. They works hard to make this masterpiece happen. Editors, songwriters, choreographers, camera person, stylists, dancers, etc, they are amazing and thanks jordan for the video too
Seulgi said the song is about childish love but taken to an extreme, so like teasing someone you like but not in an innocent way ig. I personally see it as more of a battle between good and evil within oneself. she also said that the mv takes place in a dream where good and evil fight each other (while the teaser takes place in the reality of the character, an outcast person who has been harmed by the world, you could watch it too if you'd like), i think that's why the bed is there. to me, burning it represents that the battle doesn't take place only in a dream, but in reality too. but i love your interpretation as well, thanks for reacting to 28 reasons^^
Other editors who react to this also said how incredible the mv is and it made me realise how masterpiece 28 Reasons is. Thank you for this it made me appreciate the mv and the song even more! 😭
I think the lesson in the MV is that for your good side to survive, your evil side also needs to be there to save yourself. Thus burning the bed, setting her free from the toxic relationship. She used the evil she learned and made it her own to survive in a cruel world where being good alone will get you killed.
The fact that this scene 8:40 is not only to support the story line but also to make it support that Seulgi is harmonizing with herself in the song, this song and mv was super genius
Quite a few additional bits: 1. The field and power transmission pylon scene was filmed on Daebudo Island. 2. The hanging shots and fort dance scenes were filmed in Taean near Seosan. 3. Seulgi gave explanation about the meaning of the title to Sunmi on Showterview - “You know, when you are in love with someone, as much as you care about them, you also wanna mess with them as a kid. I’m 28 now. I have 28 reasons why I love you, and I wanna mess with you, but it’s a little hardcore.” Some of it comes from boys at school pranking Seulgi playing Gomujulnori (look it up!!). 4. The video is designed as fully metaphorical not narrative driven. 5. The bangs Seulgi has in the black outfit are clip in!! 6. The choreo in the video is devised as much as the editing. It was done by Seulgi to be totally different for verses and for the chorus. (Some of it filmed at a much slower playback speed) 7.On the transition from white outfit Seulgi in the field to black n white footage with dust storm, Seulgi was actually covered in dust in the first shot to match it going to the black n white shot !! 5. Irene and Wendy visited Seulgi on set and brought donuts. Also almost Seulgi's entire family - mum, dad, cousin and 3 aunts all visited her filming and hired multiple food and coffee trucks for her and the crew!!
Awesome! I did see that Showterview episode. It was very special because Sunmi has been friends with Seulgi for a few years, and was always very supportive. Seulgi may never have even done this project at all if Sunmi had not told Seulgi how good she is. Obviously, Wendy would tell Seulgi the same thing but it also helps to have other people (a senior who is not even in the same group or company) besides the bestie to say something about talent or skill, to re-enforce the idea. That moment really made me tear up. :)
28 reasons is really a masterpiece. It couldn't be different for Ace Kang Seulgi. The entire team certainly matches her talents. I can only be grateful for being able to see, hear and stan Seulgi.
Gotta say that this whole MV feels very dystopic, like the fact that there are limited people in it and the sets being pretty much abandoned and deserted gives the whole mv a very unique atmosphere and world building. I don't know, it's very cool, feels soooo cinematic.
I feel like SM has been doing a kind of villain kick with their veteran female artists and I am HERE FOR IT. 28 Reasons was just art-actually as soon as I saw the trailer, I knew I needed to purchase a physical album because you could tell the artistry she was pouring into this. If you want a bit more of the SM villainy, BoA’s recent Forgive Me delivers the villain vibes.
A couple things to add: - First I wish you showed the bts of how she was hanging in the shot she was in white clothes and then the black Seulgi was up holding the chain. -The scene of her in front of the fire, the fire rise and goes to the left of the screen and then the choreo makes something similar with her bending to the left. - The actual electric towers and then the tower on set.
Seulgi and Red Velvet have always been experimental and forward thinking. SM used that FX at 4:08 in Red Velvet’s “Happiness “ (2014) video @ 0:54 were Seulgi walks into herself.
Also some one pointed out that there is a difference how seulgi sings as "good" one and "evil" one. Its soft for good one and more strong for evil one. We can see that at 4:49
This music video is OUTSTANDING!! The story behind it is very dark, it's very deep and has evil vibes with the colors and editing. The grassland setting is very beautiful, the witch-like, haunting setups and outfits, the dark lyrics, the makeup, the choreography, the visuals, this is remarkable. One of the best solo debuts EVER! 💛💫👑💎

If you can see close in the music video, there’s little hints of red in the clothing and makeup kinda acting as if the red is creeping up to you throughout the video until it just turns

While the lyrics may seem about a toxic relationship, it's hardly about another man but rather more of a conflict within oneself. Like a corruption of one's innocence or standing on a fork road while having a difficult decision in choosing a 'better' path. It is a situation in which the person never identified themselves as 3 persons living in one body: the good, the evil, the decision maker a.k.a the living body. The bed was a symbol of comfort or safe space. Burning it meant going out of the boundaries of whatever principle or rules she held within herself (rules that ultimately allowed her to be abused mentally, physically and emotionally). Her view of the world turning black and white, or a loss of colors was like removing rose-tinted glasses. By crossing the boundaries that she sees as a corrupt path, guilt slowly develops within her. Hence, her seeing herself turn 'black'. She still sees doing 'bad' things as evil because she still holds on to the 'white' seulgi which symbolizes her past principles (in life). But burning the bed ultimately makes her realize that there is no good or evil a.k.a. the world isn't black or white. This is a situation in which anyone can be familiar with; learning about sex and ended up trying it or growing up religious but conflicted with oneself due to same sex love. Ultimately, we outgrew this guilt and realize how normal the things we thought as taboo after we tried it(crossing the boundary/comfort zone). Hence, Seulgi no longer wearing a black or white dress but something more down to earth; casual checkered clothing. This is her accepting her 'new' normal. Just like the film, Black Swan, to outgrew oneself is to 'kill' your past self. 28 reasons could ultimately mean 28 years before finally maturing. After all, adults, after reaching the age of 25, in average, would have completely 'developed' their brains; Stable emotions, clarified thoughts and decision, etc. No extreme panics, guilts or whatever emotions that used to hold us back when we were teens or young adults. Life completely destroyed us and rebuilt us after 23. Change or accepting the new norm would be around the age of 24 and finally living the new norm would be after 25-28. 'New' norms would be accepting the state of your mental health, sex/having same sex is normal, lust and love are not interlinked, cutting off toxic loved ones (basically anything you once thought was taboo), etc.
9:02 You're Right. When I have to shoot Duplicate Subject Scene, I always tell them Not to Overlap, Absolutely. That's make it So Easy in Post-Preduction. Unless I have a Chance to work with Seulgi, I Can Do It (Masking) All Day. Ha ha ha
5:23 Damn, I really thought you would be the one person to notice this chain thing that nobody else seems to notice but drives me crazy: it's slack as hell. If she was dangling her over the edge by that chain, it would be _taut._ Totally ruins the illusion! Anyway, that's the only thing, the video's a masterpiece.
I'm learning so much from Jordan and it's all so great I never realized anything about the video story I just watch the dancing 😅 but also the explanation about this video reminds me of IDGAF video by Dua Lipa which has a lot of controlled camera motion and VFX to double every person it's so cool to finally get it
