Haha, frankly it wasn't very cold at Shade, Kargyak (the place I went to after this) was much colder. Also, Yaks actually cannot survive in the mountains if it snows too much. Yaks and Sheep do not have the habit of digging the snow with their hoofs for grass. Horses and Goats can do it, but Yaks will die of hunger if they are left alone in deep snow for a long time.

Just suggesting You should make a documentary on yawaan a remote village in bandipora district kashmir the village is totally cutoff from rest of kashmir ,. They have similar style of living. Rearing cattle sheeps and sowing etc. Hope you will make
Thanks Saravana. Very informative and meditative at the same time. From the drone shots, it seems like the village is at the foot of a couple steep snow slopes. Any avalanche risks?
Interesting observation Shankar. I do not think that the slopes pose any avalanche risk to the village. All these old villages and even smaller hamlets are constructed on carefully selected locations away from avalanches and flash floods. I can actually point out a few different things that make the location avalanche proof. - the village is located in the south facing section of the valley. Which means that the slopes surrounding it get a lot of sun which in turn does not allow the snow to accumulate over the winter. - the village is located slightly above the meeting point of two valleys. These valleys form a natural buffer zone between the slopes and the village. Any avalanche or rock fall would have the debris rolling down into the valley floor and the chances of them bouncing back up to the village are extremely small.
