Two excerpts - "The Day is Past and Gone" and "Rocka My Soul" from Revelations - are performed at the 1989 funeral of Alvin Ailey Jr. at New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
What is that space between heaven and earth? Rare moments in time such as this performance. Revelations has been danced across the globe for decades, now. And rightfully so. It is a masterpiece to the Almighty Master. Great, glorious praise. Bravo! Dear dancers , and Bravo! Mr Ailey!
Alvin Ailey is a genius. I was a high school dance teacher and would show them a section of revelations. They would want to see more and more until we had observed a whole piece. She wanted people to see the beauty of black people and for it to be assessable to all audiences.
wow attended this with my sixth grade class with Ms. Turner. They were some of the most heart felt performances I have ever witnessed and it designates in my memory like yesterday. I remember wanting to be a dancer sooo bad and these dances fom this tribute made me love dancing more. Never became a professional dancer but we all dream. Now this's was dancing.
this was beautiful i remember seeing this when i was 4 years old and doing the dances... thanks so much for posting!!! btw do you have the video of Dudley dancing to Song For You at the funeral service? i would love to see that!!
I’d doubt so. Arthur Mitchell who is associated with New York City ballet and then formed his own dance company dance theater of Harlem. But I am not 100% correct.

@DSourcespr06 I'm guessing it was the Les Humphries Singers?
The lady in the black veil - is that his mother?
Does anyone if that's Arthur Mitchell founder of The Dance Theatre of Harlem at 6:04?
