Really impressive playing, Ethan, infused with sensitive and beautiful artistry: bravo! I've read that this gorgeous music was written in 1880 and then was premiered in Saint-Saëns’s house on 21 June. Fauré had envisaged the piece as the slow movement of a sonata he planned to write. But this was not to be the case and so it was three years before the publication of this 'Élégie'. The composition enjoyed immediate success, which is not surprising as it embraces such a wide area of emotion - pathos, delicacy, virtuosity, heroics . . . and then a final page of beautifully judged détente.
Thanks Graham. Let’s not forget about the ferocious piano accompaniment! I could have played this a little better for him 😄
I thought you accompanied Ethan with your usual aplomb, James: bravo! The record button deserved to be pressed . . . 🤣
Naughty boy!
