That’s a great use for old hoses! Thanks

you gotta use drippers in those holes to maintain pressure and to also get a constant, controlled flow based on the plant.

@@agenticmark it worked for two seasons. Great way to use old broken garden hoses.

Perfect! Love the simple drip irrigation. Your video link is going in our next issue. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain all that!

Brilliant idea because using regular drip lines and emitters are ok for awhile but the emitters like to clog and by the time you notice on is clogged your trees or plants are growing unevenly. Also the garden hose is just a quick connect it up and go. I'm actually going to do this today 4/28/23. I'm only watering 3 trees, 60foot evergreens. I dug a hole about 4 feet out from the base of each tree, then the water can get into the roots🙂

In the other old garden hose we drilled holes even smaller. I turn on the water to a very low pressure and it drips nicely.

🤣🤣🤣. don't be jealous. all you need is some old garden hose, a couple of zip ties and a small drill. My husband put it together in no time.

What a great idea. I have raised beds and every year when I try to set up an irrigation system I can never find the exact drip tubing I am looking for so it doesn’t water directly at each plant so I have to water longer to saturate an area. I certainly have lots of old hoses!

We try to be frugal on our homestead. The hose watering very well. I hope to be able to use the same garden hose with the same holes next year.

I love the idea of the water hoses drip irrigation. Perhaps you can mark a red circle around each hole you drill into the water hoses. That way, next year you can lay out your hoses and plant your plants where there is hole.

I was thinking of trying that cuz drip irrigation hose is getting ridiculously expensive. I've got plenty of old garden hoses. I bet if I drill a hole like that, I can branch off with skinny drip hose where needed. Thanks!

These should work better than a regular soaker hose. They always start springing big leaks in a couple weeks and I have to patch them until I just throw them away..

The problem with sprinklers is that so much of the water sprays beyond the plants into areas not needing water so there’s a big water waste. This seems to be a very direct no nonsense way of getting water right to the area needed.

Finally, I found a video about this.
Last year was my first time setting drip irrigation up.
I didn't like all the ¼ tubing all over the place, lol
So this year I was wondering if I could just drill small holes in the ½ tubing where I want them.
Kinda make it like a soaker hose
    You answered that lol
    My question is.
If I drill holes every 6 to 8in apart.
Do you think that would that be to many .
    I have a Y at the connector.
To split the tubing to go to the other side of house.
    I have 3 long gardens.
25-30' long by only 2-3' wide.
That's why I don't want to use the ¼ tubing.
I don't want to start putting holes in it if it won't work lol
    It's still new tubing.
Can you tell me your thoughts??
    Cheers from Toronto 🇨🇦

Hello Canada, we tried something similar using 5/8 garden hose. We did the same thing with drilling small holes near the plants we wanted watered. You will need to cut back with the flow or you will have water jets. Not a bad idea for low budget DIY watering system. Recently, we have upgraded to a soaker hose. We find the soaker hose easier to use with having more consistent watering everywhere.

      It Worked❣️ It Worked ❣️
I drilled tiny holes . It was the smallest drill bit my husband had. I spaced the holes between 1 - 1½ feet apart. Yes I had to turn the water down to.
Even tho the water runs through an RV Water Filter that reduces the pressure.
I use that filter on the garded hose to get the Chlorine and stuff out of the water
      Thank you for the video.
      Thank you for replying back
I so happy . The garden looks so much neater now.
      Cheers 🇨🇦

My gardens are spaced all over the yard. Would be a lot of hose across driveway and yard 😂to get it all and take it up to mow but water the sides of plants and try to avoid leaves. I don't mind the time it takes. Sprinkling seems to take longer and use more water as it waters everything around like the garage car house, etc and makes more mud and weeds between plants plus moving them from spot to spot. If I had in one spot, be easy to do. I do different spots in case of fungus or something that could spread.

That makes sense. You have to do what works best for you.
Last year I watered only under the plants manually. It was very time consuming because I had 60 plants. Also was covered in mosquito bites because I always watered early in the morning or evening. I am very happy with my new poor man drip system. It's very easy to use, thanks to my husband 😘

Try running your water hoses and under the ground. Use the same concept electrician use when burying wire for landscape.
Take your shovel and dig at an angle about 2 inches. Simply flip that soil owith the grass intact

Sorry, I replied before completing the steps.
Permanently install your water hoses under your beautiful lawn.
      1. Dig at an angle 2 inches into the soil.. With grass intact,, Flip the soil over. It is now grass to grass..
      2. Make this 2 inch deep trench across your beautiful lawn..
      3. Put the water hoses in the trench.
      4. Flip the grass back over the water hoses.
      5. Walk on the grass covering the trench
      6. Water the grass on the trench to promote new
      7. Your beautiful lawn is back intact.
      8. Now You can cut your grass with no worries.

I use city water and found the pressure is too high no matter how small or big the hole, which can be fixed using either weed tarp or a piece of cloth over the holes to dampen the force the streams come out.

Hi Luli, just found your channel. This video was very helpful. We installed a drip system last year using a kit. It's very helpful to see how to do it using just a regular garden hose since I'm sure we will need to expand the irrigation this year or maybe next year. Thanks for sharing! Angela

How is the consistency of pressure/output from beginning of hose to the end?

  • @mollycasey39
    @mollycasey39 ปีที่แล้ว

I did this last year and maybe... while it wasn't flowing water, bugs went in the holes? or just dirt? Anyway, I had to unplug holes at the weak end (farthest from the source), and eventually, there was so much inconsistency, I was back hand watering most of the bed. Then I wondered if I still couldn't use a hose, but find "exit" hardware that delivers water better. I am going to try emitters, next, realizing they differ and can be as frustrating. Thanks for sharing your work and frustration.

I wonder if elevating the hose just a little would help-like a twist tie or wire on the stake about an inch from the ground

Sprinklers also just waste water and all your doing is watering the weeds.

    • @lulishomestead6767

It's a drip system. I turn on the water very low so the wholes produce slow drips.
