It's basically a 2000 year old flat guitar called the Goo-Zen or Gu-Zheng. Each A-shaped fulcrum is like an adjustable fret that can slide left and right by the user before playing, it's part of the tuning process, I think. These fulcrums are held down by nothing other than the string tensions, if you remove the strings, they will fall off. These fulcrums are arranged on a slant so the string closest to the player produces the highest note, opposite of the guitar. A guitar has only 6 strings with many non-adjustable frets (fulcrums), the further up the fret board, the higher the note. A Goo-Zen is the opposite, it has more strings but only one fret and note per string without bending. On a guitar, one fret = one note. If you want a higher note, you have to move up a fret or bend the string laterally to produce the twang. On a Goo-Zen, depends on how much you push on the string so each string is capable of producing more notes and more pronounced "twangs". It's also like a harp, except I don't think you can only pluck the strings, there is no bending involved to alter the note.

Harps have pedals or levers to change notes. However, I don't think you can get the "twang" sound from a harp.

The goozyang strings are supported by indivdual bridges that are indeed held in place by string tension. Wish I could talk to a musician to learn more about it. Is the left side of "bridges" even played or just for making the note sharp when pushed down, like a guitar where the string is stretched over the fretboard during a fretted note ??

Guz-yang is the presumed prononciation. Fascinating instrument. When was it developed, how long did it take ??

Thanks for the correct way to pronounce. My guess was goo yang. Now if I could just get a brief history of how it came into the world. A fantastically beautiful instrument. Is it played by other than this talented Moyun and other artists of Chinese origin?
