@@terri3961 Intermittent fasting can be as simple as not eating after dinner until breakfast. Example: if dinner is at 6pm and you don’t eat again until your breakfast in the morning at 8am then that’s already 14 hours intermittent fasting (how many hours without food). So there would be plenty of time to reach protein goals: breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack and dinner; OR if not hungry between breakfast and lunch, after dinner snack instead. So, if you aim for at least 20-30 grams of protein at each meal & snack, that’s 20 X 5 (meals) = 100 grams total daily protein; OR 30 X 5 (meals) = 150 grams of total daily protein. More or less depending on your own personal needs. I don’t like eating dinners too late as I feel that it just sits in my stomach and doesn’t allow me to sleep well, typically I prefer dinner at least 3 hours before bed and so I’d rather have protein shakes or bars as my “snacks” between breakfast and mid afternoon just to ensure that I’m reaching my protein goals. People tend to over complicate too many things, hope this helps 😊
I'm so glad I found you on youtube, Melissa. I'm 50 and in perimenopause. I am incorporating the Macro principles and especially walking 10,000+ steps a day. I want to be healthier inside and out. You look amazing 🤩
I seem to have my nutrition right because I've been veggie for over 30 years and love my broccoli. I sometimes eat salmon and mackerel, and I've recently been supplementing with plant protein powder. But I still am and always have been fat. Last year I added weight training and I'm so strong now......but still fat. Finally 7 weeks ago I started counting and weighing every single morsel of food and the weight has started to come off. All this time my biggest mistake has been over eating.
Are you satisfied? I was on a program where you count everything and it was very difficult for me. I could not sustain it. It was messing with my mental. Recently I switched my focus to controlling insulin spikes and adding more protein and that seems to be helping me. But I do intermittent fasting as well. I'm so thankful for the new knowledge in this area coming my way.
Outstanding information, Melissa always nails it. I have been working out with these same principles for 35 years and she is absolutely correct. The same principles Melissa presented is also applicable to men. Also, those who have not reviewed Melissa’s video on lifting heavy that’s another pinnacle recipe to all fat loss journey’s success. Melissa nailed the lifting heavy concept as well. You must lift heavy to see fat loss results while at the rested state. Fat loss is burning more while you rest if you have pushed your muscles to the limit during resistance heavy load or more frequency of training for women and men. Bravo Melissa
I first found you on Instagram last year and wish I had looked you up on TH-cam at the same time. Thank you for delivering such wonderful messages to those going through menopause!
recently just found you and starting your 8 week body transformation Im thrilled - also post menopausal - not much to lose maybe just 15 pounds but must get rid of the slight belly pooch I have...the meal plans, workouts are out of this world - IM READY ... THANK YOU Melissa
I do overnight oats with protein powder, hemp seeds, and chia seeds. Then I put a cup of frozen wild blueberries 🫐 in the microwave to make it a compote and add 100 percent cocoa to my oats it's so good this gives me about 50 grams of protein with a good amount of fiber. I’ve had my thyroid removed right after my 2nd child was born. I was ok for the first 3 years then I started gaining weight. Even though my levels were the same. I actually was 113 prior to my sudden gain. Now I’m 138. 😢😢battling this for like 5-6 years now. I’m 5 feet so 138 is a lot for me. Especially when I was 98lbs before pregnancy. Hi Malissa! You’re the only person that’s ever inspired me to improve my physical health as a female in her 50s :-) i’ve never had a problem with my weight, in fact I’ve had the opposite problem… Never could keep the weight on. But, I do have problem with fatigue and keeping up my strength. even though I have begin to maintain a good healthy weight over the last three years from eating cleaner and even went vegan for a short time to do a detox and reset.… I still struggle with needing lots and lots of sleep and getting tired in the later part of the day. recently started basic work out based on your compound exercises. Just found out about you and im glad i did. Im 46 and peri-menopause is hitting me hard. There is so much information out there, its mind boggling. You have inspired me to keep on learning, eating better and exercising the right way. Thank you ❤️
Hello, I’m 49 and I’ve been having some weight issues and I only workout 2-3 times a week because I’m busy working, I have emotional eating issues and I have to watch what I’m eating and workout more!!
Indeed whole food is the way to go ! With or without lean animal products depending on your personal choice, but the main focus must be whole food plant based with whole grains so you have a max of fibre. I started to eat like this and felt I lost some fat around the mid section. I use the doctor’s kitchen app because there are lots of recipes based on this philosophy. I eat less red meat (now it’s only once in a while). Half of the time I eat fish, seafood and poultry and for the other half I started to eat vegetal protein (never did before) like tofu, beans and tempeh. Eggs are very healthy, and have lot of protein.. Great way to substitute whey protein, with egg whites.. Also cottage cheese good way to add some extra protein (casein) and some carbs.. and of course yogurt always great to eat, especially kefir (which also contains magnesium, calcium, vitamin D) and which is good for microbiome..,not just kimchi which really has many great benefits ..
I turned 40 recently and have a very stressful life right now (working on that). And although I’ve not had sweets/chocolate for 3 months and haven’t had alcohol in almost 4 years, I’m gaining weight! This is the perfect video for me.

I will be 53. I weigh 159lbs. Not embarrassed at all to tell anyone my weight. When I was younger in high school only weighing 95lbs. Thinking I would never gain any weight. I got picked on alot because I was so skinny. But, now that I am older 159lbs to me feels too heavy . My goal weight is 125 to 130lbs..I saw one of my bullies recently and she does not look like she looked in high school. That made me feel good cause she also saw the weight that I have now looks good on me. She just looked. But did not speak. I didn't even care now go run and tell the other bullies how good I look now. 😊😉

Hi Melissa. Firstly, thank you for choosing to share your journey and experience with us. It's inspiring and exciting to know that we don't have to just accept the changes we face at menopause, we can adapt our lifestyle and choices to positively affect them. I have begun to learn about insulin resistance and it concurs with what you're saying. However, I just have a question about HIIT. I have read that this can lead to injuries and can cause cortisone spikes which then negatively impacts our weight training as cortisone causes belly fat. I know how much easier it is to injure yourself at our age (I am 56) than in younger years. What is your take on HITT and cortisone please? Many thanks in advance.
I’ve never been overweight and then I gained a whopping 30 pounds during peri and menopause. Keto helped but it’s a difficult diet for me to stick to because I don’t really like meat and eggs. I’m going to try this. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing Mel you make a lot of sense. I was doing exercise and need to get back into it. I'm looking at my diet and eat quite healthy so I need to keep thar up along with exercise I'm 53 I do have low energy days.

Yes, you can definitely opt for apples instead of dark chocolate! Apples are a great choice as they’re nutritious, low in calories, and can help satisfy sweet cravings in a healthier way.
I keep hearing track protein carbs n fat but I have to track fiber or else I wont poop lol. I track protein calories and fiber but I may include carns soon in my tracking
An inflammatory problem for some is the over abundance of folic acid in all the grains in the USA. I have a genetic intolerance for folic acid, and unfortunately the USA has mandated that folic acid be in ALL our breads, grains, flour, cereals, oats & etc. Finding truly organic flour is almost impossible here. For some, such as myself, carbs need to come from fruits or vegetables. Something for women here in the states to consider.
This was so informative and incredibly helpful! Thank you! I have been going thru perimenopause and inflammation in my belly (as you said after having a flat belly my whole life) aside from the symptoms has been a challenge but I’m so grateful for these resources! I have a couple of questions. One is regarding nutrition counting macros and all of that I’m not the best at it! Like understanding how it works best. Also, what is the creative and protein you use using Thank you x
Hi, you can check this video I made on counting calories and macros: th-cam.com/video/27Gv-K16G8I/w-d-xo.html The protein powder and creatine I use are in my Amazon shop: www.amazon.com/shop/msmelissaneill/
Help please! I can't do HIT but can handle the other lifestyle changes but it's that enough? Due to injury my work outs are not as aggressive as they need to be to make the weight move off my body
Maybe try swimming. It’s very easy on the joints and you can just walk up and done the pool and the resistance of the water is good for all your muscles. 😊
I love this. About the appleciderwinegar, I found that it helped me, avoiding sugar cravings. So it might help others to, at least in the transition period? 😊

New subscriber. I’m 52. Love your Chanel Melissa❤️
Thanks!
You’re welcome😊
An inflammatory problem for some is the over abundance of folic acid in all the grains in the USA. I have a genetic intolerance for folic acid, and unfortunately the USA has mandated that folic acid be in ALL our breads, grains, flour, cereals, oats & etc. Finding truly organic flour is almost impossible here.
For some, such as myself, carbs need to come from fruits or vegetables.
Something for women here in the states to consider.
Thanks for sharing!
King Arthur is organic no added anything it’s everywhere
Bobs red mill is another one neither have any added vitamins or minerals
I have a problem eating just one square of chocolate😅
1 ounce a day is healthy. I like 2 lol
thanks
You're welcome!
Also, what is the creative and protein you use using
Thank you x

I eat very little. I saw your plate and thought I would throw that up if I ate it. I’m 64 5’7” 130 lbs but ten of those pounds are belly. I need help.
Thankyou ❤

So, I’m on HRT. I have gained weight from it. I’m swollen from it and I’m so disappointed that the estradiol patch does that to me. It seems like everyone else has found the Holy Grail with HRT 😢
You’re not alone in this journey, and there are always ways to find what works best for you. Hang in there!
