As always, I want to hear from you! Please let me know what you think about the topic: Agree (Yes, make your kids practice) or Disagree (No, Let them decide).

I train in Va. The other 2 gentlemen train down in Alabama, I believe.

The rule at my house is everyone goes to Jiu-Jitsu at least once a week. I’ve got a 21 year old daughter that gave me a little trouble but after going once a week she started asking to join me for more classes. My other daughter is 7 and she would go 7 days a week if she could. Especially now. Schools are virtual so the time she does Jiu-Jitsu is time to play with her friends. Our Jiu-Jitsu academy has been going strong since May when we were allowed to reopen. My son is only 4 and isn’t quite ready for it but he’s going to be joining soon.
I think pushing too much can be dangerous but I do believe once a week isn’t asking much. The benefits are just too important.
Plus having a couple daughters training has made it impossible for me to ever quit. 50 years old it helps to have that added motivation of my daughters pushing me to go.

I saw this earlier on A fathers roll podcast. It was good to see you all get together. I found them through you and being a Christian practitioner in my 40’s, y’all speak my language

My path to the BJJ mat was actually through my son who started first. The gym we go to really emphasizes family involvement. On Tuesdays and Thursdays it's the kids on one side and the adults (mostly dads) on the other. When my son started, I told him that I might do it as well. He kept saying, "When are you going to start dad?" So I guess you could say it's a case of him forcing me 😁. The reality is that now I'm probably more enthusiastic than he is. Hopefully we will both keep it up. Thanks for the videos.

That’s awesome. All 3 of my kids roll now. Although, some days I wonder if they want to quit…but they haven’t said anything - so for now everyone rolls (except my wife - she has no interest at all) 🤣

"forcing" is a strong word, but there is something about parents forcing their kids to try things because often, kids will NOT try new things and will prefer the status quo. Making them challenge themselves will ultimately make them better humans, especially in todays entitlement culture where people always want something for nothing. It is a delicate balance, but I think there has to be a degree of force used to get some kids motivated

Point taken and I concur. Sometimes a little push to keep going teaches perseverance. Appreciate your comment!

My girl is 13 my boy is 9 they both were raised on the mat. My girl tried it don’t like it too much but it helped in other sports. My boy will roll when he feels like it but plays other sports. I don’t force my kids but I introduced them to sports at a young age

I vote to “encourage” kids to practice martial arts, but “forcing” them might just make them resent it, eventually. Just my two bits. Like your videos bro, keep it up.

Did I force or brainwash them into to? I've been rolling with them since they were born... it started out as me just flipping them around during tummy time... their firs moves where finger grips... once they could crawl, it started getting a little interesting, once they could walk it got even more interesting. They're older now, and don't know any better, 'rolling with dad' is as normal as eating dinner or picking up toys ... it's just how life is... but this leaves the dilemma ... did they ever really have a choice? Did I force them or brainwash them? IDK, I'll have to meditate on that one... now to resume the vid and see what perspectives are revealed.

Idk, after watching ... I feel like I shouldn't question it... they come watch me in class sometimes ... I haven't yet asked the oldest (5) if he wants to join ... coach has suggested it, but I discussed it with their mom, and she didn't think spending more on tuition was worth it at this point... I can just keep training them at home for free... but that left me pondering at what point would I be holding them back by not offering to enroll them? Now this question (did they ever actually have a choice) ... I think I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing and when they get a little older I'll just introduce the idea to them and see how they react. If I had to guess, I think my oldest will pursue it, and my youngest will be heavy into cannabis and being a pacifist... Zan'er already acts like a little hippy and he's not even 4 yet, and he's very passive ... he falls asleep during rolling and we don't do chokes yet... they don't understand the permanence of death yet so... they know guard, mount, knee on belly, side control, 50/50, they know half nelson, full nelson, and accidently they learned the kimura, and how not to spaz out. Also they know how to team up for an 'armbar on daddy' (we call it the AoDy)... the 5 year old goes for the armbar and the 3 year old pins daddy's legs 'so he can't roll away' (roll out of it) lol ... it's a cute move... they're convinced it works, even though in different context they know I can pick them both up with one arm (that trick won't last much longer, these boys are getting heavy) ... I wonder which will happen first... they realize that they can't armbar daddy... or they become capable of actually pulling it off?? Anyways great food for thought, cuz my BJJ does effect my family so much... I just hope it's all positive. We have had those nights where they're upset that daddy's going to the gym, and I'm like, no bud you can't come with, cuz mommy has other things to do and you are throwing a tantrum and that makes daddy not wanna take you anywhere. Also my gi got used to try to hide a food explosion in the kitchen ... daddy threw a tantrum that morning. So it's had it's ups and downs... anyways I'm just rambling at this point so I'll leave it here.

    I love this video.
As a Dad of a 6 year old boy that trains 2 days a week. I also train. I tell him it's ok not to be as into it as Daddy but it's like reading and writing. It's a fundamental skill you need. I am very low pressure and we do alot of ice cream after class etc. He is starting to like it more and more

Awesome....Kids - they're all different and no one approach can be right for all...heck, I have 3 in the same house and have to manage each one differently...😂🤣😂 Appreciate the comment and kind words. Consider subbing if you haven't! 🙏
