Uncensored Kaufman rant? Marvelous. :)
Dude 😮
It’s a treasure
Out of 78 comments, yours is the top! And now there's 79 comments, so... sorry?
I've never heard the full uncensored Andy Kaufman segment. Thank you for sharing it.
I know that uploading all 30+ years of Dave would be almost impossible, but if you could find it in your hearts to upload complete episodes of the morning show, I could die happy.
Regardless, thanks for everything you’ve done and continue to do.
This has been the best staff favorite moments so far. I was in tears as Santa Claus attempted to read French, (Spanish).
I agree. My fave so far.
I'm no longer surprised, just continually delighted at the incredible sweetness of each long-time staff member. Thank you, Dency!!
To actually see the Andy and Jerry segment uncensored. My mind is wonderfully blown.
That uncensored Kaufman/Lawlor footage needs to be spread around.
I don't think that it has ever been shown in full before.
was thinking the same thing! have seen that clip 1000s of times over the decades but never once with the raw f-bombs!
There's an uncensored video on TH-cam, with the whole interview.
I was at the morning show rehearsals and the final air show (my friend did Chyron). Yup, rehearsals did not go well. Once the audience cleared after the final air show, I found a ticket on the floor of 6A, then saw Dave outside the control room. I asked him to sign it. And of course, he did.
In the fall of 1980, my brother and I were high school seniors. We didn't have a VCR so we played hooky two mornings that week -- to watch the Iowa show, and then to watch the final show. Thanks for the memories.
Iowa show was simply brilliant.
Love to see more Morning Show! Thank ya Dency and the Letterman Channel fam
Bravo to Dency and his final comments.
Memories pressed between the pages of my mind.
Thank you Dency. 👍🏼😊
I just love the backstory these videos from staff reveals.
I'm so glad that everyone on the show thought the Andy Kaufman/Jerry Lawler incident was real because when I watched it as a teen I totally thought it was real and it was also the most amazing thing I'd ever seen on tv. It really was unbelievable, which evidently turned out to be true, but man Kaufman/Lawler put on a great act. Late Night W/David Letterman was the greatest show of all time 82-91 or so.
I've seen it half a dozen times, including the night it originally aired, but this is the first time I've heard the uncensored version. I wonder how they acquired _that?_
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Dave owned it by way of his production company at the time - Space Age Meats - which would be the forerunner to Worldwide Pants. 🙂
This is pretty amazing. Dency, you have really helped Dave go from daytime TV to late night TV. Thank you.
The way Andy Kaufman committed to Jerry Lawler slapping him and then lobbing F-bombs he knew would get censored only added to the man's genius.
Kind of a mismash of memories, but it was 40+ years ago and morning show content is always welcome! Many thanks to Dency and the channel!
And a mishmash.
“Morning Show” memories remind me of the best summer of my life. Yes, my life has gone down hill since then. Pen time isn’t that bad. Life’s good. Thanks, Dave.
Watched Dave on the morning show and all thru the years on the Late show! Hated to see it end but watching these staff favorites seems to keep the show running to me ! cant wait for the next one!
I really enjoyed this "Staff Favorite Moments" video ❤ Thank you Mr. Nelson 👏🏻
I remember that morning show…what a change from everything else that was on TV. Made me hopeful for the future.
Another stellar show - thanks, Mr Nelson!
Could we get a Larry Bud Melman documentary?
That was a great shout out to Barbara for her compilation of clips to Everlong. It was so well done--easily the greatest finale moment to a live show ever done.
I’m here to say the same thing. That compilation always brings a tear to my eye. It’s a bummer though that she missed the after party because it didn’t line up perfectly. IIRC they barely got the show to cbs in time. Barbara is a hero, and her show is awesome too!!
I really like this memory segment because of the focus on the morning show. I never got to watch it because of the hours I worked.
I never got to watch it because I was too young!
My enduring memory of the morning show can be summed up in 2.5 words...Mrs. Marv Mendenhall.
Awesome seeing all of the footage from the morning show, as well as the uncensored Kaufman / Lawler exchange. Watching these is like a fast trip between my teen years to my middle-aged ones.
I bawled my eyes out when that show ended and when I saw the montage. I am crying again now watching the end of this clip.
Looks like Dency is sitting in Manhatten Beach, California? Playa del Rey?
I used to live in LA and was trying to figure it out, too.
I really loved the morning show.
I love that the morning show is getting some attention! Great job!
The best late night show ever...FACT. And thx for sharing your memories, Dency...great stuff! - Chris
Hey, Uma Oprah. Oprah Uma is a classic. It made me laugh and stuck with me all these years.
Ke-a-nu.
Calvert as Santa was so hilarious, and a classic example of what could end up on air with Dave.
It's been said many times, but that finale montage will forever be one of the finest moments in television history. No fan of the show could watch that without feeling the incredible emotion that is the entirety of the David Letterman era.
Wonderful memories! Amazing how many people were part of this great team for such a long time. As always... Thanks for sharing!
I don't know about anyone else, but that deer head knocking down the live playing card had me in stitches.
This was next level, Dency. What a great pack of clips. Dave was lucky to have people like you as part of his team.
The "ha-ha" on the cue cards got me. 😂
Absolutely fantastic!!!
I sure do miss Andy.
Definitely one my favourite show(s) ever.
P.S. What is that giant animal passing in the background @12:36 ?!
That was great.
S/ o to Gaines (and team) is highly approved.
Merril was the best. Dave certainly has a type, don't he?
That stunt she did was no joke. That's a safety critical gag!
What is "Dency" short for?
If we are all honest with each other we have to admit that the first 10 years were great. And the last 20 Dave could not care less and did not want to be there. He has even said " I should have left 10 years earlier". No hard feelings it's just the way things go sometimes.
I got to know where Dency is for this segment... It definitely looks like SoCal, but is it San Clemente, San Diego???
Dave was good
Um… is this the first time we’ve seen/heard the unedited Kaufman/Lawler moment???
There's some trade secret being revealed here about the cue cards!
@13:59 what was the Oprah-Uma?
When Dave hosted the 1995 Oscars, he did a little joke involving Oprah Winfrey and Uma Thurman, who were in the audience. The joke bombed infamously. Google "Oprah Uma" and you will find the video as well as many references to it.
D'oh.
A bit Dave did at the Oscars. Going back and forth between the two women, then adding Keanu (Reeves) at the end. It bombed in the auditorium.
@@raymondm.9954 Thanks, mate
would love to hear the story of this mysterious "outside entity" that produced what was supposed to be the original ending to the show? and then barbara swooped in to save it?
Lol I know hindsight is 20/20 but c'mon who thought a wild boy like Letterman would be great for morning housewives? lol
But Paul _is_ the King of Ging.
RIP Dency.
Dency is alive, clearly. 💕
Don't joke about death, please.
Yes; I know David Letterman TH-cam uploads tributes after every celebrity passing, however, obviously, these crew-member memories are current as the date they're uploaded, for our enjoyment.
So, enjoy! 🙂
The goat of comedy shows, before Dave lost his edge... Was best when he went shredded his guests
:)
Great to hear from someone who goes that far back into Dave's history.
Edit - Wow, great to hear the uncensored version of Andy for once!
_Someone_ lives in a nice neighbourhood.
He earned it all.
"With an amazing career in Hollywood spanning nearly 40 years, Dency Nelson has been the stage manager for almost every major award, and event show for the past 25 years, including the Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, and Kennedy Center Honors.
On top of that, he also worked on the Opening, and Closing Ceremonies for the 1996 and 2002 Olympics, and President Obama’s “We are the One” inaugural event…just to name a few.
The list of his accomplishments is almost endless."
