Dude thank you. I’ve been thirsting for long form digimon world content for years now and they all cap out at like 30 minutes tops. Video was good quality, but I will say your cadence needs a tad bit of work. Just a tad slow for me personally, but still good.
You're welcome, I'm pleasantly surprised of this kind of reception. I didn't even know how to create a video before this one, so it's really rough around the edges, that I concur. @@FingerOfBadger Oh ya man you’re new so I hold no complaints against you and I’m sure you’ll only improve with time. Definitely gonna be keeping an eye on this channel.
My PTSD from this game flared up. Late game you get to a point where every Digimon does damage to all enemies, when 6 Digimon do that each turn takes 10 minutes.
Yeah I know what you're talking about, and these attacks were only to weaken Digimon, no damage done so when the enemy spams the attack, it becomes a slog and fights can take 20 minutes because of that
We are from same generation and glad to say I’m playing it now in emulator. I’m playing the digimon world 2 alternative mod which i think improves the experience.
1:34:45 WTF happened there mate? Was that you adding in that sound effect and stopping the video on that frame for around 5 minutes? It stops at 1:39:13 or so. The fact that sounds and music kick back in during it I'm guessing it was a mistake? Either way, mistake or not, I've really enjoyed watching this mate. Awesome video! Im sad you didn't use a emulator and made the grind easier if not for anything but to show the special digimon on the high floors of the 99domain also it's possible to get Omnimon directly by DNA digivolving Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon like in the show :D
Glad you enjoyed! I actually did use a playstation emulator mainly for reducing loading times and having access to gameplay speed, therefore I could've kicked my butt and went through all of Tera domain. Unfortunately, I don't think DNA digivolving Wargreymon and MetalGarurumon gives Omnimon. From what I remember, you needed a MetalGreymon with 20+ DP to get access to it. Same thing with the 2 others secret, Baihumon needs a 20+ DP Meteormon, and Diaboromon (I made a mistake, the secret Virus digimon is not Kimeramon!) needs a 20+ DP Okuwamon. Nevertheless, there also was another "secret" digivolution route by the way of Veemon. Its rookie form was only available by DNA Digivolving, and if you raised a Veemon with enough DP, you could get unique Digimon like Flamedramon, Raidramon and even one form of Imperialdramon!
Took me a week of watching this sporadically, but I've finally watched this in full. As an adult with a lot of games under his belt, I knew this game was a slog, it wasn't "good", and you could argue it's a piece of garbage. But it's my piece of garbage, dammit. I've played this game more times than I can count, the last one being 3 years ago. Now with this video I might play this again, this time maybe doing something different from the Gold Hawk Veemon route. I want to try other guard teams and digimon rosters like how you got Jijimon. Again, thanks a lot for this review/walkthrough/kind of a playthrough!
"(...) and you could argue it's a piece of garbage. But it's my piece of garbage, dammit." I don't think I could've said it better. Thanks for watching all the way through!
Bro If you are gonna replay you should play digimon 2 alternative mod if you have an emulator, it's literally way better than original with a bunch of new domains and digimon, aswell as its a much harder challenge than original.
@murabitojames yea it's better in every way in my opinion the mod makers did a really good job, also if you've played digimon 1 you will appreciated file island way more
Thinking about Digimon World 2, it might've be the first turn based RPG I've played. And it certainly was my first dungeon crawler. This is why it's so close to my heart despite its shortcomings.
A good thing to keep in mind that in the Domain you find MetalGreymon, you can farm for Presents that work on Digimon of every Attribute, so you can stock quite a few before unlocking Device Dome. Some of the enemy Digimon will have mons with different Attributes in their party, so as long you have Presents that work for the leader, you can recruit those without their items. ChaosGreymon can actually use Gaia Force, but only seems do so at low health. He just don't usually last that long enough to do so by the time you actually starting hitting him. And the part where you fight Damian after you already caught him isn't actually intended, it's just that depending on what domains you do first or if you go back to the city earlier than the game expects you can break some sequences and play the event out of order. Blind Attack, or Double Edge as it's called in the japanese version, makes Crimson attacks anyone in the field, friend or foe alike, only he doesn't have any allies. It's like Confusion on steroids, since Confusion seems to make the affected mons only target their own party in this game.
Thanks for the additionnal info, especially on CWarGreymon and NCrimson! For the toy line of gifts, it's fine to grind BIOS for them but since you're not too far from unlocking Device Dome and getting the better items for each type, I don't think farming toy cars is that necessary. Sure you can get digimon of every type, but cannot DNA digivolve those whose type is stronger than the team you chose at the beginning, so in the end, you're cluttering your server of lv. 13 fodders, when you can push a bit more and get a better variety of digimon to recruit and better ressources at hand. But you won't see me scold someone who does grind the toy line, every technique and decision is fine by me as long as it works!
@@FingerOfBadger yeah, it's more for in case you want to get them early. You will need to recruit a lot of Digimon in this game, after all. And you can always have some extra help in case the Domain is filled with Digimon that are strong against your party's Attribute.
Some important thing that should be touched in the beginning and I'll assume you didn't. (I'm up to 23 minutes) The game gives a 20% damage increase or decrease depending on some things, namely type and specialty match-up. Vaccine -> Virus -> Data -> Vaccine is the type matchup, if you have the advantage you get a 20% boost, if you're at a disadvantage you deal 20% less damage, which can hurt a lot. That's the reason Hagurumon dealt 8 damage against your Agumon even being a boss, with floor advantage. . The specialty chart is a bit more of a mess. Fire -> Nature -> Machine -> Darkness -> Water -> Fire. It looks simple but the disadvantages aren't as simple. You deal less damage against a Specialty that takes more damage from the one you deal extra damage two. Basically you skip one. To make it easier to understand, an example, Fire deals more damage to Nature, but deals less damage to machines. Mind you, specialty is based on the skill for the attacking digimon, and the digimon's specialty itself is used for defense. And the floor impacts both (only positively on the skill) . So all in all, your Agumon's Baby Flame (Pepper Breath) is a Fire skill, which deals less damage against machines, which is Hagurumon's specialty, while he sits on the machine floor. The only saving grace here is that Agumon is Vaccine and Hagurumon is Virus, but you still lose damage overall. Meanwhile, Hagurumon's skill is Machine and deals increased damage on that floor, but it loses damage on the type matchup. . Last but not least, each damaging skill has an Attack Power (AP) number. Both Baby Flame and Darkness Gear have 17.5 AP, which is pretty high for a Child (Rookie), meanwhile Bakumon(Tapirmon)'s Nightmare Syndrome (Waking Dream) has a ridiculously low 10 AP, meaning even with the same attack stat, even with an advantage (pushing it to 12), even on the right floor (pushing it to 14.4), it will STILL deal less damage than your Agumon. That's how important having the right skills are. . The damage formula goes Floor(Floor(Type Bonus * Specialty Bonus * Attack Power * Tile Bonus) * Attack / Floor(Defense * Tile Bonus)) = Damage. Yeap, pretty crazy. . I like this complicated thing, but the game does not tell you any of that, which is ridiculous, which is why a video should have this IMO. If you want to know all of this without having to memorize, go to the God MetalKid's site, you can even predict how your DNA will end up.
You sure know your stuff when it comes to technicalities in this game! While I knew about such influences, I did not go into details because it becomes really complicated as you explained and couldn't put it in a coherent way. Also, you can outright ignore it once you get Kuwagamon/Okuwamon and Dolphmon/Whamon, as attacks with stat changes are much more efficient than terrain/type matchups, especially if you go for brute force and self sufficence. Nevertheless, I appreciate you taking the time to explain these subjects in detail, someone is bound to find those additions interesting.
i haven't tested it for all the digimon in the trading center, cause i've never played this game that far, but each traded digimon has a move from a digimon of their contra type. so vaccine trades will have a data digimon's move. (magnaangemon with magical tail, or snowagumon with rock fist) virus trades will have a vaccine digimon's move. (megadramon with wing blade) data trades will have a virus digimon's move. (wizardmon with necro magic)
I play this game at least once every year, it's my first digimon game and first JRPG as well. Me and my brother called Pokemon Red "the Digimon like game", because you were gaining levels and stats, like in DW2 lol, we didn't knew the term "RPG" back in the day. The game is messy and slow with some bugs here and there. But i love it, it's my go to digimon world game, when i want to play digimon game. Also, best soundtrack from the franchise and i gonna die on that hill.
@@FingerOfBadger Also, when you feel like playing DW2 again, try out the Alternative mod. It fixes a lot of stuff, reballance it, put new (recolors) digimons into the game, new skills, better dungeon layouts, dialog is rewritten to sound better and more. The game is harder as you play, but nothing insane, just not cheap easy like the og, you can't rely on Duo Scissor Claw for example. IMO, the best DW2 experience you can have.
when poisoned you do take more damage, but it has nothing to do with lowering defense or whatever you said, poison actually adds 10 damage to every hit you take, so if you take 15 damage with poison its 25 damage, if the move party time hits you, you take either 30-35 damage 15+10+5/10 damage.
When you're poisoned, you take more damage. When your defense gets lowered, you take more damage. I might not be exact, but I'm close enough to be fine with it. Thanks for the precision though!
Coming back to this video: don’t use floramon unless you have no choice, hardest of the nature digitama to escape, the easiest is Palmon, and Tentomon and the Kunemon twins are medium tier to get away from, and Floramon is absolute HELL to escape, Veemon acts similar but is a BUSTED digimon later game, so it evens out way more then enough
Nice to see you again! While that's true to a certain extent, I don't agree. You can always avoid a digitama by dna digivolving it with another digimon whose type is stronger than your main. And you'll have a chance to get the Kunemon twins by DNA digivolving from the flora line with another virus mon, which are game breaking figimon lines in the base game. And in Flora's case, it can digivolve to Kokatorimon for paralysis and Deramon / Piximon's moves are good for low Mp consumption, which is crucial for self sufficience. And while Palmon and Tentomon are elusive, their digivolutions aren't exactly worth it as the tentomon line have good but not great moves (except HKabuterimon whose attack is bugged), and you can get Horn Buster via MGreymon early on. Palmon's line is only worth it for pumpkinmon whose attack is stronger than blossomon's and is easier to get since Yanmamon also digivolves to pumpkinmon. And whilt Lillymon's attack is on par with Deramon's, but is way harder to get early due to the 8 DP requirement. Same thing with Demidevimon, tough to get and is not worth it in the end (Myotismon has a great but very costly attack while VMyostimon's attack just does not work). I agree with the Veemon line, tough to get out once you get one via DNA digivolution but its "secret" digivolutions are sooooo cool!
@ I will say you got one thing factually wrong: myotosmon’s move is actually not “costly” it’s just the only ultimate move that isn’t an assist to cost 40, because it hits like a mega move in the code of the game, aside from that you gave me a really great insight into things I don’t know about the game
@ I’m gonna check out that Fire Emblem video soon. Just about to get off work! Glad to see ya upload my man! Cheers and good vibes for the day. See ya on the Fire Emblem video soon
I'll take your word on that! I've always give up items in favor of self-sufficence, but when I think about it, there's merit using the Z-Cannon when you have elemental advantage against the enemy or the same floor element as your item, so it can apply good damage in good conditions. (I think so, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) But toolbox management is much less difficult without them!
Actually, I don't think Digimon World 2's case is that comparable to Zelda 2, because after Zelda 2, we got ALTTP which DID return to a formula more similar to the original Zelda, meanwhile in Digimon World, it would take us DECADES to see any new game that even remotely resembles the original Digimon World.
I was making a parrallel about the reception of the second game after it did not stick to what made the first title enjoyable, not the future of the series thereafter.
The more I see of this game, the more I think "this is just what I did in Dragon Quest Monsters on Gameboy Color". I love those games. Probably should get on Digimon World 2. EDIT: 2 months later, I've beaten the game once and immediately got on another run to get the retro achievements. I'm having a TON of fun with it!
DQM and DW2 are quite similar when you think about it; Check the digimon game out if you're not bothered by crust and slow gameplay, it's a fun experience that gives a glimpse of another era of gaming.
Emulation has you covered on this, you can speed up the speed of the game via software options. There's even some parts in the video where I couldn't hide the speed up, so I put Sanic to indicate where things would go fast. Thanks for watching!
Toy Plane for MetalGreymon is a waste for Gold Hawk players, there's enough space for you to shoot 3 gifts before combat and 2 CD Players and a Wristwatch, 2 CD Players and a Toy Car(found in chests on floor 2) or 3 CD Players is enough to recruit him. Blue Falcon and Black Sword players will need to use the Planes though, Toy Car is, IIRC, the only gift that works on Vaccine types that they can get by that point, and 3 of them isn't enough for even the lowest chance to recruit.
I somewhat agree, but if you got the secret plane from Chris Conner plus the one you get from Mark Shultz, I'd argue the method you choose is irrelevant. The more gifts you shoot, the more chances you give MGreymon to ignore them, thus reducing your chances to get the best odds for you to get it. Plus, they cost bits. The plane, being max level, has virtually no chances to be ignored and will get the mon to max affection level outright, so less chances to have to reset. They're given to you as well so no cost, leaving you more bits for parts, which are crucial to upgrade especially before Device Dome. Ultimately, it's your choice depending on your playstyle, so there are no wrong answers.

Duo scisor claw and hornbuster were broken. Especially hornbuster as you can see the outcome of the attack on the interrupt screen and strategically choose who to interrupt. Made the game too easy
It's true the game's structure was flimsy at best and some moves weren't functionnaly as intended, some being compmetely useless or made too situational to be useful. That being said, a fan-made balance mod made the game much more solid and more playable. Check out "Digimon world 2 alternative" if you're interested.
That's fair, not everyone is on board with the change. DW1 was pretty unique and closer to the origin of Digimon. I don't know if are aware, but they "remade" the game on multiple platforms in 2016 called Digimon World Next Order. It's a fun game with lots of callbacks to the first Digimon World, but with the more modern Digianime flair you find in Digimon games of this era. It's not exactly the same, but it's still a worthwhile game I would recommend to anyone that likes the first Digimon World.

I understand your criticism as I share it, but I think it's an issue that will resolve itself as I practice and get better.
I want to continue doing long-form content about video games, and I plan to revisit the modded version of this game one day, when I feel like my skills will be improved enough. It's not soon, but it's in the plans.
Hope to see you by then!
@@FingerOfBadger Oh ya man you’re new so I hold no complaints against you and I’m sure you’ll only improve with time. Definitely gonna be keeping an eye on this channel.
To clarify “resting” means in between using its attack and the end of the turn, so after Scorpiomon counters, it can’t be hit until next turn
I'm gonna check DW2 alternative next time I feel like going back to it once more. Thanks for watching!
Mod and enulator actually make the gane playable. Impossible to stand the pacing without soeed up.
I'm gonna sub and check out some of your older stuff. But I like what you've done here personally.... but I like long content like this, so I'm a bit biased. LOL Also, I thought your editing was rather good mate. For someone that's self taught, respect mate. I just started recently on my channel actually, but I just made four 30 or so second shorts. They did well, but I would like to be confidant enough to do something as long as you did tho!
So yeah, great job on the vid, and enjoy the new sub. :) TC and I look forward to you coming content. :)
I was not even aware that the video was glitched at this mark, but now that I am aware, I believe the problem lies when I exported the video into file format. Rookie mistake for sure, I'll check if I can solve it without having to re-upload the whole thing.
Thank you for the feedback, and although I do not have more for you to watch, I hope you'll check back later once I have more to present. Cheers!
@@FingerOfBadger Hey no worries mate, I'm glad you know what the issue was, cos now you've mentioned it I can keep an eye out for it in the future on my own projects. Cheers. :)
And you know what, I didn't even realize you were such a new channel! The way you've presented this video is amazing for someone so new! Be proud mate, you very much earned it here. Well, I look forward to whatever you do in the future my man, cos if this quality keeps up I dare say you have a bright one on here.
One last thing, do you do anything live? Like do you do playthroughs and record them while on Twitch or just at your own pace? Either way, take care and keep up the great work mate!
@@maysintv9168 I'm not yet at the point of doing anything live, as I am still very new to the whole content creation stuff, but if I manage to get some traction and enough interest, it's in the cards.
For now, my goal is to sharpen my skills in every sphere of video making (especially about of the quality of the base material) up to a point where I'll feel more comfortable to take on new ways to crate.
Again, thanks a lot for your input, much appreciated!
@@FingerOfBadger I'm a small content creator myself mate. I started on Twitch, kind of wish I hadn't and I'd started here on TH-cam. I feel like I'm playing catchup learning editing now. lol. Well, if you ever go to Twitch/Stream here I'll be dropping by that's for sure. :) Anyway, it's like 2:15am here in Aussie-Land. I'm off to bed. I'm gonna make sure to pass around this video tho, I know a few people that should like it. G'night and Good Luck mate!
I was wondering if that was on purpose at first since it happens literally after "you can scramble (the attacks)" :D
I didn't expext I would fully watch a movie lungth video and enjoy it a lot, very cool video 😍😍
you have try digimon world 2 alternative now, I've playing it recenltty and it's a lot of fun it added new digimons and changes the encounters, you might enjoy it 👍
It makes me haapy to know you watched it in full and loved it. I've been recommended DW2 alternative more than once and I will try it eventually. I might even make a video about it once I'm better at content creation, as a tribute to my first ever upload!
But it's my piece of garbage, dammit."
I don't think I could've said it better. Thanks for watching all the way through!
Bro If you are gonna replay you should play digimon 2 alternative mod if you have an emulator, it's literally way better than original with a bunch of new domains and digimon, aswell as its a much harder challenge than original.
@@joevilhena1745 I did not know this was a thing. Challenging and more content is right up my alley indeed. I'll look it up, thanks!
My favorite game all time well this and tactics
the way you say "domains" 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
That's the accent of a northern frenchman trying his best to hide it xD
Thank you for watching!
@@FingerOfBadger it's lovely!!!
(I'm up to 23 minutes)
The game gives a 20% damage increase or decrease depending on some things, namely type and specialty match-up.
And the floor impacts both (only positively on the skill)
.
Finally someone explained it like a normal person! Thank you from a man who when explaining this sounds like a wild lunatic!
i haven't tested it for all the digimon in the trading center, cause i've never played this game that far, but each traded digimon has a move from a digimon of their contra type.
so vaccine trades will have a data digimon's move. (magnaangemon with magical tail, or snowagumon with rock fist)
virus trades will have a vaccine digimon's move. (megadramon with wing blade)
data trades will have a virus digimon's move. (wizardmon with necro magic)
Hey you're right, I hadn't noticed! It does hold up, as I remember Magnadramon (vaccine) has Preciomon's (data) sad water blast. That's a neat detail!
I will die on that hill with you in regards to the soundtrack. Even when comparing the more modern titles, it holds up wonderfully.
I never knew the canon team was Data! I just always picked it because Palmon is data and I want Palmon ASAP!
You made the right decision for your priorities!
when poisoned you do take more damage, but it has nothing to do with lowering defense or whatever you said, poison actually adds 10 damage to every hit you take, so if you take 15 damage with poison its 25 damage, if the move party time hits you, you take either 30-35 damage 15+10+5/10 damage.
Don’t give up
People like you are reason enough not to give up. Thanks for the support and something else is on the way, check back later!
@ I’m gonna check out that Fire Emblem video soon. Just about to get off work!
Glad to see ya upload my man!
Cheers and good vibes for the day.
See ya on the Fire Emblem video soon
z cannon is actually very powerful for time saving, can turn a 2 turn fight into a 1 turn fight
I'll take your word on that!
I've always give up items in favor of self-sufficence, but when I think about it, there's merit using the Z-Cannon when you have elemental advantage against the enemy or the same floor element as your item, so it can apply good damage in good conditions. (I think so, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)
But toolbox management is much less difficult without them!
This one never got an EU release. Would have loved to play this back in the day without having to mod my console.
It's a shame it never got released in the EU, I agree :/
DQM and DW2 are quite similar when you think about it;
Check the digimon game out if you're not bothered by crust and slow gameplay, it's a fun experience that gives a glimpse of another era of gaming.
This game is pure pain
Pain is pleasure for some. And for others, that's all they have
@FingerOfBadger was it worth it
I'm playing the game for almost 25 years, I still find fun in it, and it paved the way for my interest for dungeon crawlers so it's a big yes for me
This game is actually amazing, it just needs a speedhack
Are you from a region in particular ? I feel like I heard that accent before, not that I dislike it just intrigued to know.
I'm canadian french and I speak french in my daily life so that's probably why you picked up the accent

This game was so fun idc what anyone says lol
I agree! That's why I made a video over 3 hours long talking about it !
😅 Nowadays I play it with emulator. Use fast forward options to make gameplay bearable.
Amen!
anyone fell in love with the chief engineer lady as a kid?
I was not part of that group!
What about kimeramon
As far as I know, DW2 Kimeramon is a myth. Its data is in the game, but without a trigger to actually find it
they should of stuck to the digimon world 1 forumla. its the one reason why i never even bothered to look at it. It was a completely different game.
It's not exactly the same, but it's still a worthwhile game I would recommend to anyone that likes the first Digimon World.
tbh i'd take even Digimon World 2 over the modern slop pokemon releases any day of the week.
Today, it feels like the Digimon franchise, while smaller, has grown along its fans, while pokemon looked at their older fans and said "you're not our target demographic anymore, move along"
Just look at Digimon Survive and the themes it tackles!
