Great explanation! I wish I had seen this six months ago, but having learned this through trial and error, it’s burned into my head now. Your explanation and the attendant details polish off my understanding. Thank you 😊

Great stuff. Good to know it doesn’t just have a mind of its own.

Does Roll mode mean. That autopilot has been deactivated?

Great video, very helpful. My question is once the autopilot starts flashing what do you do to get it armed again. Press the APR button? or something else?

Exactly! Why the video ended without the problem being resolved.

Why not just keep the CDI on GPS? You're not getting a glide slope in VLOC mode anyway, furthermore if you're landing at a field with VNAV, you're only going to get a glide slope in GPS mode. Plus if you have to execute a missed approach you have to go back into GPS mode. What am I missing?

Chris, you receive glide slope in VLOC. In an ILS you have to use the needles, NO the GPS

You cannot *_legally_* use GPS on an approach officially designated as ILS, LOC or even a VOR. So you must use the actual VOR/ILS receiver, and navigate using those signals. For an ILS or Localizer approach this is an absolute rule, no exceptions! However, if you are flying a VOR approach, you are allowed to use GPS, with an autopilot (capable of flying it), to fly that approach, as long as you *_monitor_* the CDI on a separate VOR receiver that is tuned in to the specified VOR!
