Nah he was a special player no doubt but he wasn't an all rounder. He didn't run games, he was more of an impact player. Yeah he could play different positions but he only had one style of play, which is top gear all the time. Not a knock, Gerrard is one of my favourite players of all time. I always found Gerrard to be a different kind of player. He's quite an interesting player - he's got a unique technique the likes of Zidane, Beckham, Figo, R9, Messi and Ronaldo have - each different but very effective. He does have some similarities to Zidane, but he's more direct and dynamic at times. Hadn't seen prime Gerrard for a while - I just remember his extreme physical demise in his last few seasons. I guess those early years playing (wasn't he 17,18 when he played first team football?) and all those calf, thigh and hip problems he had lead to his rapid slowing.

i hated him back in the day but looking back, he was one of the best midfielders in the world in his prime.
I was actually impressed with Casillas that day..it could've easily been 10-0..save after save and leaked in 4..Benitez Liverpool were relentless at that time..

@@brentmeistergeneral6074 Not really true though. Reina, Carra, Agger, Hyppia, Aurelio, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso and Torres were all great players who played together. There are also more examples. Besides, how many "great players" did Leicester have when they won it?
Johnny Rocker of all those players there were three world class players and a few good ones. Not comparable with the Utd’s at the time. Leicester was a complete freak one-off.

@@sulyah Gerrard wasn't a defensive mid at the time. He was more of an attacking mid. It wasn't until under Rodgers that Gerrard started playing deeper.
