Yeah he could play different positions but he only had one style of play, which is top gear all the time. Not a knock, Gerrard is one of my favourite players of all time. It's just loads of people say he was an all round player and it's just not true. He didn't slow games down like some other players did, he had to have the team built to fit his style. But Torres was chasing the bright lights and the money whilst Gerrard was quietly becoming a legend, not just at Anfield but in world football. I always found Gerrard to be a different kind of player. He's quite an interesting player - he's got a unique technique the likes of Zidane, Beckham, Figo, R9, Messi and Ronaldo have - each different but very effective. He does have some similarities to Zidane, but he's more direct and dynamic at times.
Hadn't seen prime Gerrard for a while - I just remember his extreme physical demise in his last few seasons. I guess those early years playing (wasn't he 17,18 when he played first team football?) and all those calf, thigh and hip problems he had lead to his rapid slowing.
