i think he was originally a classical singer. he was in the school chorus (choir) and doing west side story in high school was the first time he started taking voice lessons. he has a beautiful voice :)

Musical Theater on film has its own singularity, not certain Spielberg, for all his brilliance, fits this calling. We shall see, he's currently filming on location in Harlem, NYC.
