    Wow. As much as I love Aaron Tveit's fresh 'pop voice', I'm glad he keeps exploring the potential of his range and timbre. He's doing a great job. I'd love to hear him sing 'One hand, one heart' with whoever he wants 😉

      i think he was originally a classical singer. he was in the school chorus (choir) and doing west side story in high school was the first time he started taking voice lessons. he has a beautiful voice :)

      Ronette Pulaski No it’s true! He started off studying classical singing then switched to theatre. He’s talked about it at concerts

      @@BernardProfitendieu You can be accoladed grade 8+ in instrumentation/singing without doing it at higher education 🤦‍♂️
      It's perfectly possible he was grade 8 at college/high-school - it's not a particularly far fetched statement.
      At that level you still constitute as a classical singer.

    • @Dracoriax
      @Dracoriax 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@BernardProfitendieu This is precisely the elitism and conflation of opera singing with classical that results in the snobby stereotype.
      You can be a successful classical musician without attending a conservatory - you can also have the capability to pursue opera but perhaps wish to be involved with theatre instead.
      I don't see any record of Tveit failing to cut it classically. It's a presumptious/vacuous statement that assumes every classically trained singer wants to pursue opera and if they don't it's due to lack of ability.
      Take for example my Harpist friend who was offered the opportunity to study at Juilliard's and be a part of the harp ensemble there but chose to study at Leeds.
      Or my partner's cousin who got full marks in his classical diploma and was auditioned by to be part of the BBC Singers, but turned it down to pursue an education in Opera when his bass voice matures later in life. Guess what he went to Oxford not a conservatory; by your definition he isn't a proper classical singer yet he is precisely that and is currently a Lay Clerk in Oxford.
      Conservatoires cater to soloists and operatic voice types that mature early (with later admissions for longer maturing voice types). That doesn't mean you aren't a classical singer if you don't attend one.
      Are you a classical singer? I'm very intrigued how you have formulated this opinion.

    • @Dracoriax
      @Dracoriax 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@BernardProfitendieu I'm a bloke. But I won't stop you deferring to ad hominen when you can't formulate an argument, and have to insinuate I'm somehow a "failure" like my peers.
      Which isn't an applicable argument to either example I used as one can't train to sing opera yet due to his voice type (something you would know if you knew what you were on about and were a classical singer), and the other didn't go to Juliard's for monetary reasons (funnily enough moving countries with a family on minimum wage is difficult)- but lets keep being presumptious about ability without any evidence shall we.
      Like evidence that Tveit somehow couldn't cut it as a classical singer? Will be happy to see evidence of that.
      I don't know about you but you couldn't make it a country mile near Broadway/West End with bad breath control - you need exemplary technique at a diploma level.
      You don't get a solo at a high school chamber choir with bad breath control ffs.
      But anyways, I'm glad my head is in thin air where I don't make presumptious comments about theatre (and don't pretentiously say this is the correct *english spelling* of theatre). Let's not forget you were the elitist asshole denigrating classical singers that didn't wish to study in X conservatoires.

Hope Spielberg does not muck up his upcoming film version of West Side, we saw what happened with Richard Attenboro's "A Chorus Line" OY! Musical Theater on film has its own singularity, not certain Spielberg, for all his brilliance, fits this calling. We shall see, he's currently filming on location in Harlem, NYC.
