    Thank you for the great video. I have this welder and the instructions are hard to understand if you are new to tig welding. I was confused on setting the amperage but you explained it to where it makes sense. My best investment however was my new Miller Digital Infinity welding helmet. Now I can see what I'm doing. Also using cheaters instead of my glasses, it keeps me from having to find my sweet spot.

      You are welcome. My next purchase is a better helmet. I am between the Miller Infinity and Lincoln Viking my self. For now my Antra cheapo is doing fine. Enjoy the welder, it's a good one.

    The new power cable is larger than the old one because of the accessory plug for the water cooler, if you check I think the old one was a 12awg & the new one is a 10awg.

    It's nice that start amperage goes down to 5 amps instead of the older model's 10 amps in DC.

    I have the old model too. Great machine. Lasted about 7 years of hard use before the amp control went bad a few months ago. I can't complain for what I paid for it. But not worth the cost of repair so looking to purchase the 203 or 225 soon.

    • @jarobuilds
      @jarobuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah mine has been solid. If you are talking about the amp knob, just open it up and swap it with a new one or use one that you dont use on the machine. The start amp end amp ones would be a good choice to sacrifice since the 200 doesn't have upslope or downslope it's really not necessary.

    I wonder if you could take the case off and swap the connections for positive and negative connectors. That way other torches will reach the gas fitting easily.

  • @CorruptName1
    @CorruptName1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Also, the instructions say to plug the torch into "positive" unless I misunderstood the chinglish.
    Edit: guess I needed to watch longer.
    BTW you're right, the instructions are wrong. Burnt a tungsten up instantly running it according to the instructions.

    Considering buying one. Would you mind pulling the cover off and let everyone take a peek inside? Prime Weld 225 and Weld Pro 200gd have already been opened up. To be honest, the build of the WP200GD looks pretty good. The Prime Weld obviously works well, but looks a bit like a couple of different generations of various welders have been wired together. Still, it appears to work well. Yes, I am over thinking this.

    • @jarobuilds
      @jarobuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was considering all the welders weldpro, ahp, prime weld and even Everlast. Couldn't justify Everlast 210EXT for what you get. WeldPro has crappy pedal and non DINSE connector for torch. Primeweld seems good but analog and big and heavy. AHP seemed to me to be best value especially coming from the 200 I never had issues with. I needed to exactly dial in my setting when using torch button, which digital is the way.

      @@jarobuilds Thank you much for the feedback. Good to know you're still happy with the new welder. After way too much overthinking, I concour with your assessment on the competition and your choice of the AHP 203Xi. As much as I wanted the 210 EXT, the 255 EXT if I had zero regard for budget, I just couldn't justify the expense for my hobbyist mission. So after securing all the required tig accessories save the 125cf argon tank due to arrive next week, I go to the AHP website to place my order and find that they are out of stock and new stock due to arrive and ship in early January 2022. Yes, it seems that timing really is everything. #@&%?! Looks like I will have plenty of time to get things ready so as to flog the machine hard within the 30 day full warranty window and hopefully rule out machine infant mortality. Thanks again for indulging my inquiries.

    I wouldn't advise having your grinder over your welder.

    Hi. Trying to figure out between this one and primeweld, any input it’s appreciated. Non tig experience here at all

    • @jarobuilds
      @jarobuilds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Both great welders. The benefit of the 203 is that it has a digital display for all settings not just main amps so you can dial the machine exactly to the settings you want. The Primeweld is analog so the knobs get you in the ballpark but not exact.

    i can tig weld pretty good now, but ill be dammed if i had to extend a gas hose that i cant weld.

    • @jarobuilds

      Yes but the polarity is reversed making it awkward to use. It starts at 100 and as you press it goes to 0.

    Are the buttons the film type like those found on most microwave ovens or the dome style snap buttons, like the HTP 221 or the Weld Pro 200GD?

    • @jarobuilds
      @jarobuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are dome style. They have a nice feedback to them when you press them.

      @@jarobuilds Cool, thanks. The AHP website has a special running at $725 for this machine as of an hour ago. Think I'll call, ask a few questions, and, if satifsfied, place an order. The hissing sound of the arc in DC mode raises an eyebrow and other have mentioned it as well. The PrimeWeld seems immune. Don't understand the reasons why, Hear tell it often comes with the more budget friendly offerings. Really can't say, myself.

    • @jarobuilds
      @jarobuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@caseyroman58 The old 200 had a hissing noise when the tungsten was dirty or the metal was dirty. It was just the arc shorting inside the machine between the two adjustable plates. A lot of time I would do a tiny scratch and then initiate the arc for a crisp start especially on aluminum. This newer one seems to have a much improved arc start. Its more crisp, hard to explain but you know when you see it.

      @@jarobuilds Thanks for the feedback. Good to know you're still happy with it. Still deciding. I spoke with the techs at both AHP and Weld Pro. Both highly recommended flogging the unit hard in the first thirty days as that is the limit of the paid return window. If they survive the abuse, they are likely to be okay over the long haul. With this in mind, I will be installing a 40 amp outlet tomorrow and see about getting a bottle of argon before pulling the trigger.

    • @jarobuilds
      @jarobuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sansdecorum4600 Probably a good idea to run it hard first 30 days. 40amps is fine that's what I have mine on and used the old 200 on full amps aluminum without any issues. Your air cooled torch or glove will melt before you trip the breaker.

      Welder is still running great like my old 200x. Ran 2 80cu bottles of argon through it on DC. Not one single hiccup.

    I'm looking at picking a 203xi up, but can't find any good reviews. How has it been for you? Any issues? Any regrets? How's the pedal? I have a nice SSC pedal right now, curious how that Novo compares, also the torch vs. a CK?

    • @jarobuilds
      @jarobuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has been really good. No issues yet. No regrets. Pedal is working great as good as any other. Nova and SSC pedals feel very similar you won't be missing much. I sold my old AHP with the rotoflex that came with the 203 and kept my old CK17 rigid.

    Read 1.2 DC ARGON ARC WELDING for proper settings...pictures are only illustration not for specific configurations. (8:05 of the video)
    If you are a tig welder you should scratch your head and read all the steps for the settings
