In this video we take a look at how to install Open Tx firmware on the Flysky FSI6X Radio transmitter via the DFU mode so that you can avoid using the st link usb programmer.

Hello @Rakish Rc I'm trying to put the radio in DFU mode but windows recognizes the usb as a malfunctioning device, can anyone help?
So I updated to Ver1.6..0 using STLink V2 & four wires - worked Great - rebooted Transmitter and noticed wrong language selected - powered Transmitter off and installed serial cable & pushed both horizontal trims to center to set to DFU mode - now unable to reprogram using STMCubeProggramer (no connection to usb - windows sees device as DRPm32DFUISPMODE (NO DRIVER) & NO COM. - ANY SUGGESTIONS ?
Hi Rakish, I am interested in your method to install opentx on flysky radio because I would like to use a headtracker with mine. As I saw in your video dedicated to the use of headtrackers, I have to install open tx on my flysky. However, I have an fs-i6. I saw in one of the comments below that there is another firmware for fs-i6 but is it opentx too? And will I be able to use an headtracker with this other firmware? Or should I rather buy an fs-i6X? thank you for this informative viode my friend just flash on the 1.4.0 version on my transmitter. I just notice that the higher version you download it wont work due to increase of memory usage of the new update file so my transmitter work or only accept the 1.4.0 version.
Great option, but once again i have to ask..will it work the same for the i6 radio? Just jumping the r53 pads?? Maybe not...considering that the main board is different🤔
Hi, no this won't be same for i6 because the board is different. There might be a pad to jump but not sure which and of it'll work.

I had do same..but now my fsi6x is garbage for me.
After installing opentx.every time when I on the switch.shows switch warning ABCD & throttel warning..then when i fix it all switch and throttle position.its hanged after last action.then restart with fix all switch and throttle.only show White screen..also instal old firmware but tx not responding still in dfu mode like.please help

If you do not want to solder the R53 pins and you have standard FS-i6X firmware, you can enter DFU mode via the following process. Power off the radio, push and hold the left vertical trim to the right and the horizontal trim down.. While holding them, power on the radio. The LCD will stay blank and you are in DFU mode.
That said, whether I enter DFU mode via this the trims or by soldering the pins, my radio isn't read as any STM32 device, it is still read as a flysky radio controller?? I'm going to try the ST-Link v2 adaptor instead.
Hi, you're right about the dfu mode initiation on stock firmware however the dfu mode is different with original flysky firmware and cannot be detected as a stm dfu device to completely erase and flash a new firmware. That's why the r53 pins are suggested for the stm processor dfu mode. If radio is correctly setup in dfu mode and unable to detect or show on computer then check the usb cable and usb port on computer along with stm dfu drivers if not installed. ST link usb device is also a sure shot way but need extra soldering which is not worth...r53 is the easy way with a pair of tweezers for the very first flash.
In device manager its labeled as other devices- AMP32 DFU ISP Mode. What is wrong and what do i do to fix it
You dont have to solder wires to the R53 pads, I've used a pair of tweezers like the ones you use to point to the pads and it worked like a charm. You only need the pads bridge the moment you power on the radio, you cand remove the bridge after and the radio will stay in DFU mode
Yes I can understand. But it takes multiple attempts to get it working with a tweezer. I find the wires much better but if anyone wants to try the tweezer way they can 👍
Flysky sure isn't making it easy to to go to DFU mode are they?

I followed your steps exactly and everything seems to work, however when I press "download" the STM32 program just loads and loads. I have tried previous versions of the Openi6X but all just keeps loading....Any suggestions?
Do you see the radio in device manager as STM 32 dfu device? If yes make sure to select usb option in top right corner of STM 32 program and then connect. Select the firmware file and then click on download.

unfortunately i now have the problem that my chip is read protected. do you think it will be better when i buy st-link?
Yes because you can then disable the read out protection which is at level 1. Remember the existing firmware will be lost once read out protection is disabled.. however the original firmware file for fsi6x is easily available so not to worry. Then you can flash the openi6x firmware and enjoy
where can i get factory firmware for the fsi6x.. might not have saved mine.. also, reason i need it is becasue when i go to expresslrs in the menu for open tx it just says Loading????. i dont know why. and ive flashed multiple times. 1.3version
The loading message means either some mistake in wiring the elrs module to the radio, if you haven't enabled crossfire protocol in external module settings in model settings, or you don't have elrs 2.0 on your tx module. Check if the ground and tx2 signal wire is soldered properly to the radio and connect correctly to the module

Yes you can. Just make sure you initiate the DFU mode properly and then flash the latest open tx firmware file 👍
Can you tell me how to put the backup original firmware back into the flysky transmitter??
Same process just while flashing use the original firmware file. Use either dfu method or st link method make sure to use right file
My 6x only comes up as apm32 isp dfu mode not as stm32 boot loader is there’s way to flash these one it does not show up in the software
It not worth it sir you have to use the stlink but it not worth it
when i hit the download button to update to opentx the STM32CubeProgrammer just closes any help?
All the reed and backup prosses gose smooth and the load of the new firmware but when i press the download button the programmer just closes

UPDATE: I'm upgrading from original FW to Openi6x v1.11.1 by following this tutorial BUT the TX seems like it is bricked and does not display anything. If you have the same issue, you can try to do full ERASE using STM32 Cube Programmer and then try to re-flash following this tutorial. I realize that the output log in this video did show "ERASING SECTOR ..." which I suddenly thought that why his step does involve erasing sector when by default, STM32 Cube Programmer will not erase the chip and may show "Sector not found".
Its a great info, but i have a question before i installed open tx firmware,
1. Is protocol stil afhds and afhds2?
2.Can we change the power output
3, is there a timer in it?
4. Can we back using flysky original firmware?

Protocol Is afhds2a, power output for elrs is adjustable not for regular built-in module because it anyways doesn't support that, yes you can setup timers, yes you can revert back to original firmware if needed.

Hi, at top left you'll see OB / option bytes. Connect your radio in dfu mode and see if you get disable read out protection option under OB settings

How do I return to stock fw if I dont have a backup?
You can download original firmware from Google/ cleric GitHub repository.
Just use stock firmware file and update like shown with open tx firmware file
Windows isn't seeing my controller. I'm using a cable that has a kind of audio jack in it. Is this the wrong lead? I'm hoping it's an easy fix with a new USB data cable. Any advice would be great thank you
You can build a diy usb cable. The pin out for the rear connection port is available on TH-cam and goggle. Find any usb cable and cut the small connector end and match the wires to rx tx gnd and VCC connection.

If you have stored Models in Transmitter - do they stay or you have to re-program them?
To be more clear: I mean if you upgrade 1st time - from original software in Transmitter to Open TX ?
@@Mike4_friends For the first time from. Factory firmware to Open Tx firmware all models will be lost as the eeprom is different and reset. Once you install latest open tx firmware you can always back up your new models eeprom file. But at the moment restoring models from different open tx firmware is not supported fully.
@@RakishRc After bridging - connecting to USB and STM32 Cube Programmer I get the Warning "Device is under read protection! If you want to disable RDP please reconnect with Read Unprotect enabled." If I mark read protect block - still can not enter USB programming mode ??

Hi, I did everything according to the instructions, but when connected to the computer, no USB devices appear at all. In my case, only ST-LINK will help? Maybe you have faced such a problem? - Windows 11

@@GKCcisco I have the same issue, but I think it might be because of the datacable. I'm trying to use the one for the game on PC, it's the type that has an audio connecter in it. I think it might not actually be transmitting data. Have ordered a data cable to see if it helps. @rRakish Rc can you please confirm?

if you flash Open TX to the FS-I6x transmitter, Can you bind any receivers to it OR only Flysky receiver?
Flysky receivers, express lrs and tbs crossfire are supported and any tx and rx ppm module as well 👍

Hi, did you check which processor is on your fsi6x? If it's stm32 then you'll need to install stm32 drivers. If it's geehy apm32 processor then let me know I'll share more links on how to get it flashed with open tx firmware. Did you install stm32 cube programmer? Sometimes switching to a different usb port might help.. check if usb cable is good

I have faced a issue with my windows 11 laptop...when I tried to connect the transmitter in dfu mode to stm32cubeprogrammer I got an error showing device is in read protected mode...and I couldn't find any solution for it....but when I connected in my windows 10 laptop everything worked fine
In stm32 cube programmer on top left corner there's settings option through which read out protection should be disabled. But you've got it working i guess by now 👍

Can it work on fsi6 & frsky receiver bind it with fsi6
For fsi6 there is erfly6 firmware with crossfire support. Don't think you can bind Frsky receiver because no multiprotocol

Hi, when you connect in dfu mode does it show up in device manager? The MCU you replaced is exactly the same as before right? If you are following dfu method then make sure r53 pad is bridged as shown from this video or solder the St link pads and use a St link V2 usb adapter. Either ways you should be able to flash the firmware and get the radio working 👍

Did you wire the tx2 pad for signal wire with a ground pad? And then have you selected crossfire in the external protocol settings? It should work 👍

@@almacfpv74 if it's stuck on loading that means the elrs module and radio are not communicating properly. Check if the wiring is correct and elrs 2.0 firmware is flashed on rx and tx module

How do I bind?
In model settings under protocol option there is bind option. Put the receiver in bind mode first and then turn on radio and select the bind option to bind the receiver 👍

Better range with stock flysky receivers? I don't think firmware would make a difference on the range for flysky receivers. But express lrs is exactly for that...long range and strong signal connectivity 👍

Radio is not connected to computer correctly. Check usb cable is good and in device manager if raido shows up after connection and what it's displaying the device as
He’s right it shows up in device manager as apm32 not stm32 so it don’t come up in the program

I don't have fsi6 unfortunately and open tx is not supported on fsi6 only works on FSi6X. For fsi6 er9x aka erfly6 is the best firmware. 👍

can't i use the regular firmware updating tool (flysky-updater-win64.exe) and select openi6x_1.6.1_en.bin for example to update the firmware?
it said Unexpected firmare size: 128168 bytes. Use --force to flash anyway. so i canceled it and preferred to ask before trying it. thank you for your help
It's possible can you send me that flysky updater tool. I had it once but it's not available on flysky website anymore. It could work but will have to test. Even something goes wrong you can always flash original or open tx firmware by dfu method. No harm in trying.
