      winnipeg makes it work regardless of the dmen, INCLUDING lifetime AHL defensemen!! this is not a personnel issue, its a coaching and systems issue. we all watch the same games, and see the exact same breakouts, same breakins, same defensive schemes, and the entire league has them figured out! how many times is it a turnover in the o-zone or the neutral zone that leads to a 2-on-1 or 3-on-2, which is where a lot of the goals end up coming from. or how many of the goals come from the other team passing the puck on the outside, along the boards, then getting a free guy break out in front for a 1-on-0 play against the goalie? these are all due to bad assignments, bad matchups, poor defensive schemes. the players can learn to play better defence, but they have not, and we can't expect the players to just TEACH THEMSELVES how to play d!! that is ALL the coaching!

  • @shedboy4lyf

    • @graemehenry2511
      @graemehenry2511 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      AustonNyMarner it’s a cap dump deal. If he went to arbitration, his old salary is taken into account and realistically they needed bodies at that point in time. Holl didn’t play so it was unknown if he could plug into the bottom 6. Paying ceci 4.5 for this year is well worth getting rid of that albatross of a contract that LOU signed. They don’t have a first year because of lou. Realistically, next year is first year of Dubas having space to create his own roster without having to fix old mistakes.

    I was a long-time hockey coach. After many years of coaching, I realized the following:
    95% of coaching success comes from the players. How skilled they are, how self-motivated they are, and how selfless (team-minded) they can be.
    At MOST .... 5% of a team’s success can be attributed to the coach.
    Sorry to share this secret to those who think that hockey coaches actually make a difference. 5% folks !!!!

    Thank you Mike for your commitment to trying to build a team focused on two way 60 minute hockey. You brought us consecutive improved points each year you were here and 3 years of playoffs. It's a damn shame that their are two many individuals on the team that are committed to themselves rather then executing the plan you have given them. But most of all its a shame that you have a GM who is so short sided to think that speed and skill on its own instead of skill and will is what wins championships. For some reason, it feels like this organization is as bad as it ever was (they did going into Arizona to deflect from Auston Matthews return and potential local press heat on his summertime incident cause they know mass Toronto media herd would show up) and I am ashamed to call myself a Leaf fan. A series of bad timing issues by Shanahan created this management problem. Hires Babcock. Then Dubas but cuts Lamarello who had experience. Dubas to no fault couldnt hire his man (coach.) Try working for a new boss when the one that hired you was let go. Classic business model for failure.

      Steve Bator Except Lou was never cut nor fired. Lou was enticed by the headhunters of NY Islanders and gave Lou the job he had with Jersey before being recruited by Shanahan. Lou left in good standing.

    Coming to the Maple Leaf organization is usually where you come to end you career. Eg. Belfour, Joseph, Ron Wilson..
    But if Bab's isn't done, I hope he joins a team and takes them to the Cup to rub it in the Leafs' faces. But in all honesty, I think they should've fired Nylander though.

    What Babs did at the beginning as head coach cannot be overlooked. He turned this team around. He made guys like Reilly and Kadri much better players. But he didnt adapt at all, he spoke heavily about learning from other businesses but never showed it in his coaching style. A change was needed, not sure I agree with the timing, I agree Keefe was our coach of the future, but we're kinda throwing him to the wolves doing it now.

    But if they had 5 million for a d-man, they would have wasted it on Jake Gardiner, who in case people aren't paying attention is on pace for something resembling 20 points and -45, as opposed to bringing back a Hainsey, even though they already have too many Gardiner types and not enough Hainsey types(if any)

  • @Paulafan5
    @Paulafan5 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Some"?! You mean it's 75% the players fault and 25% the GM's fault for not having a decent defensive core. None of this is on Babcock. He can't turn a bunch of nobodies on the back end into a great defensive unit, and the star forwards got their big payday (which they did deserve AT THE TIME) but then coasted ever since.
