    I absolutely LOVED this tutorial! The little tips about tool making and the clear, succinct process made it a joy to watch. The only thing I'm worried about is baking it at home. Is there any other type of clay that acts the same as Super Sculpey but that is air drying? Also, I'd love to see a painting of the creature!

      @jakecorricksculpture 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Melanie MulHolland -Thank you so much! No need to worry about baking it at home, you can use a regular home oven! you can also bake Sculpey in a cheap toaster oven specifically for baking clay if you are worried about your oven, although Super Sculpey is non toxic.

    awesome video. Im just starting out and learning as I go so this helps tremendously. My first sculpt is nearly complete and im now ready to add the finishing touches and detail. I need to smooth it and wondered if Its ok to use white spirit? can I use it undiluted or will that be to strong?. Also I haven't baked before so am nervous. Once i bake it if i do have any cracks or want to add more can I re bake it and how long for? Thanks for the tips in this vid and will def subscribe.

    Thanks

    • @ChampionChains

      You never remove it from the armature. You bake the entire thing.

    Nice sculpt for sure but you really cook it for 2 hours? I bake mine for 15-20 minutes tops and they come out fine, so I thought. Maybe I should try baking them longer.

    will the glass eye break or crack in the oven?

    • @jakecorricksculpture

      Not at all as long as you stick between 225 and 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

    How did you make the armature?

    • @jakecorricksculpture
      @jakecorricksculpture 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lisa! It is a simple pipe and flange (can be found at any hardware store) screwed to a board and then just a length of aluminum armature wire twisted and shoved in.

    • @ArchieLovesMe
      @ArchieLovesMe 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It probably sounds silly, but the armature part is the most intimidating for me. I have used crumpled up foil, but not wire or anything else yet. And I am running into problems with clay cracking (I use Premo white and paint it).

    • @jakecorricksculpture
      @jakecorricksculpture 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lisa Elle One of the most common causes of cracks is underbaking your piece, or cooling it too quickly. Good luck!

    • @resin_Hd
      @resin_Hd 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lisa Elle What I've seen, and do is bake my clay in the oven. When time's up just shut the oven off and leave the piece in there to cool without opening the door. It'll be a nice slow cool down, and I almost never get cracks. HTH.
