Hello from Japan. My country has a very unique feature regarding "job". Basically because it is said that we gotta work for one company for the entire life, job hunting can be very competitive. I started my job hunting in Japan last September, and have applied more than 130 companies and had 40+ interviews so far. But I failed everything. I tried to commit suicide several times this year but I failed. So I decided to take a rest and focus on my mental health, and then probably start looking for a job outside of Japan. I've had the same job for 16 years now doing bathroom remodels and custom tile shower builds. Started at 17, 33 now. It's good money and all but my body is just shot already. Bad knees, back, neck, etc. What I really want to do now is work in a book store. I love to read and all the older employees say it's nice. It may be way less money but I think it would be relaxing. I want to work there until I'm old and just drop dead from natural causes.

Straight up, I'm pretty antisocial but my coworkers are the only thing making my current job "worth" working. It genuinely sucks to have to work 8hrs+ a day and have no one to bullshit with.

He was one of the first asmrtists i found and I have way more asmr and relaxation watching other asmrtists but I still watch him. Nor for the asmr but for the stories he tells and his character =) he is some kind of a father person for me
I like this approach personally. So many therapy and mindfulness methods involve just becoming content with your situation instead of getting out of it or identifying a toxic workplace, when I think an equally valid method is just coping until you can gtfo.
I just recently realized this as well. My whole perception has shifted from “I hate my fucking life I hate this job I’m a loser” Into “I’m paying off my debts I’m becoming more diciplined I am motivated to better my situation” ... gotta go n get it baby’

I've been watching ER for 7 years and I'm 22 now, almost a third of my life. He's the only channel I've never tired of and continued watching as I grew up. Something magical about it.
I'm really glad I watched this the full way through. I've been stressing about the future and being stuck working in a shitty job all my life ever since middle school. Especially now with the pandemic going on and seeing my parents struggle with rising payments. But hearing this honestly lifted significant weight off of my shoulders. Yo, this gave me a flashback to when i was 8 and shared a huge house/mansion with another family when i lived in canada. My dad used the other familys dads car to get to work which took him 4 hours to drive there, the other familys dad had some form of memory loss so every morning would think my dad was stealing his car. Weird.
This speaks to the power of TH-cam and the internet. I was lost, and did the same thing with trying out macro photography, and in researching cameras, stumbled upon TH-cam and the filmmaking genre. And solely because of that, I’m now doing video production/editing full time. Then I discovered ASMR, then many other different TH-cam worlds. I’m so glad the internet exists - it’s a great way for kids and people of all ages to discover new things and learn more about what interests them. Okay, goodnight. This was a cool video. 🌙
I bet this is one of those things where Paul (Rift) is told sometimes in the comments to "get a real job" or something along those lines. He clearly had "real jobs" but where would we be had he listened to that rhetoric. I think ER makes some of the best ASMR on the platform, and he does everything himself. I'm working at my first actual payroll job and it's not that bad. I live with my mother, so I don't have to pay bills. I'm saving up my money for college. I hope that I can get enough by then.
A vicious cycle that I overcame : hating a job, getting home stressed the fuck out , blacking out on whiskey, showing up late and a mess the next day hating my job. Rinse and repeat until termination. I always found the most passion when I was LOOKING for a job. I was determined and motivated (and sober). As soon as I would land another one I would celebrate. But the same cycle always ensued.... been trying to come up with a creative idea that relates to job hunting and nailing the interview... that was always fun to me

I'm a really creative person and I'm stuck in a dead end office job that I hate (and I'm terrible at) and I zone out all the time. I have a small side hustle of drawing portraits and animals but it's not enough for me to quit.. I struggle with what I want to do with my life. This made me evaluate my work life and how I’ve actually been very lucky. I’ve never had to work low paying jobs relative to the hours or work out in to get there. During my high school years I had a few internships in retail stores to learn about how it feels to have a job. This was designed to prepare us for the work life after school. I also had summer jobs working landscaping. None of this was paid, but I did receive a cut of my step dads paycheck because I worked for his firm during that summer. Then I went to college to become a nurse. Worked my first permanent (contract and benefits) as a nursing assistant while I was a student. I was 21 but this was the first actual job I had. I got a full time job as a nurse there after I graduated and still work there four years later. But I think I may be getting close to a burn out. You talk about being good at a job and it paying well but not being happy. It’s exhausting and highly stressful to be so close to so much pain, sickness, self destruction over time. I consider myself extroverted but I’m always so eager to spend my free time alone. I wonder if I maybe want to do something else but I have spent time and money getting a very specific university degree and title so I feel like I need to stick to it.
The most important thing about this video is that this video exists. I really want to thank you for the great insight when I needed the most with my times in knee deep in confusion inside the time of my life. You really have helped the continuity of our society.

This dude is veritable fountain of creativity and was the guy along with Fred's Voice to help me see that ASMR wasn't a gimmick. All your jobs were very interesting ER, and I enjoyed learning about them. Thank you. I was born disabled and I'm unable to work, however I can volunteer so I attended a storm spotting class several years ago and have been a certified Skywarn spotter for eight years now. I want to also thank you for what you do currently releasing creative and imaginative content. (I remember when Margaret had bubble wrap in fact) and I use ASMR to help calm my spasms and pain levels since I won't take antispasmodics or pain relieving medication, and your ASMR style combined with your lore and characters help me be comfortable and rest everytime.
Just telling your kids to be catholic is a great way for them to dislike catholicism. I'm to the point I prefer any religion that isn't one of the three main ones I've learned the basis of at school. XD

Before I was promoted to Jesus Christ, I have seen my predecessor that had unbelievable powers such as creating different "Mans", each of them would know about a supject really well. He had the same look in his eyes as ER, just like his appearance. I wish I could meet him again and learn his power.

Where ever you work and stand in an area a lot, get something like a brick to put one foot on. It will make a huge difference.

Yo, this gave me a flashback to when i was 8 and shared a huge house/mansion with another family when i lived in canada. My dad used the other familys dads car to get to work which took him 4 hours to drive there, the other familys dad had some form of memory loss so every morning would think my dad was stealing his car. Weird.

This speaks to the power of TH-cam and the internet. I was lost, and did the same thing with trying out macro photography, and in researching cameras, stumbled upon TH-cam and the filmmaking genre. And solely because of that, I’m now doing video production/editing full time. Then I discovered ASMR, then many other different TH-cam worlds. I’m so glad the internet exists - it’s a great way for kids and people of all ages to discover new things and learn more about what interests them. Okay, goodnight. This was a cool video. 🌙

I bet this is one of those things where Paul (Rift) is told sometimes in the comments to "get a real job" or something along those lines. He clearly had "real jobs" but where would we be had he listened to that rhetoric. I think ER makes some of the best ASMR on the platform, and he does everything himself. It probably is actual hard work. I also notice he doesn't collab with a lot of people, probably because he likes what he is doing to feel distinctly his own.

I'm working at my first actual payroll job and it's not that bad. I live with my mother, so I don't have to pay bills. I'm saving up my money for college. I hope that I can get enough by then.

A vicious cycle that I overcame : hating a job, getting home stressed the fuck out , blacking out on whiskey, showing up late and a mess the next day hating my job. Rinse and repeat until termination.
I always found the most passion when I was LOOKING for a job. I was determined and motivated (and sober). As soon as I would land another one I would celebrate. But the same cycle always ensued.... been trying to come up with a creative idea that relates to job hunting and nailing the interview... that was always fun to me

I love this video. This level of humanity and humility speaks to me. I love these really open personal videos. I value sincerity and honesty above all so even assholes are sometimes what you need. You don’t hide the darkness in humanity, instead you show how it can be used to blossom into a better person.
Watching this video and finding out that you make these videos out of joy and that you don't feel like you HAVE to make them makes me love them even more.
How weird is it that this video pops up when I was literally just talking about this with my mom, and wondering how some people (like my mom) pretty much have a built-in passion for something and they do that one thing for their whole lives. I’m so thrilled for you that you found your art/self expression/creativity and a way to support yourself all in one. There are more people like you than society cares to admit, people who need and yearn to express their souls’ expression and also make a living at it. Our current way of life and political systems doesn’t make it so conducive and easy.
I have never commented on a video before but you deserve my first comment!! I feel like you're speaking straight out of my mind.. I'm a really creative person and I'm stuck in a dead end office job that I hate (and I'm terrible at) and I zone out all the time. I have a small side hustle of drawing portraits and animals but it's not enough for me to quit.. I struggle with what I want to do with my life. I'm almost into my mid twenties but I'm panicking feeling like my time is running out to find a job I like and can be good at. Thank you for being so open and honest you've really uplifted me 😊

This made me evaluate my work life and how I’ve actually been very lucky. I’ve never had to work low paying jobs relative to the hours or work out in to get there.
During my high school years I had a few internships in retail stores to learn about how it feels to have a job. This was designed to prepare us for the work life after school. I also had summer jobs working landscaping. None of this was paid, but I did receive a cut of my step dads paycheck because I worked for his firm during that summer.
Then I went to college to become a nurse. Worked my first permanent (contract and benefits) as a nursing assistant while I was a student. I was 21 but this was the first actual job I had. I got a full time job as a nurse there after I graduated and still work there four years later.
But I think I may be getting close to a burn out. You talk about being good at a job and it paying well but not being happy. It’s exhausting and highly stressful to be so close to so much pain, sickness, self destruction over time. I consider myself extroverted but I’m always so eager to spend my free time alone. I wonder if I maybe want to do something else but I have spent time and money getting a very specific university degree and title so I feel like I need to stick to it.

Hehe, I also did a "paper boy" or rather "paper route" job when I was about 13. Good exercise on bikes. Collecting was ridiculous. Throwing papers from a bike got to be fun for a short while.

All your jobs were very interesting ER, and I enjoyed learning about them. Thank you. I was born disabled and I'm unable to work, however I can volunteer so I attended a storm spotting class several years ago and have been a certified Skywarn spotter for eight years now. I want to also thank you for what you do currently releasing creative and imaginative content. (I remember when Margaret had bubble wrap in fact) and I use ASMR to help calm my spasms and pain levels since I won't take antispasmodics or pain relieving medication, and your ASMR style combined with your lore and characters help me be comfortable and rest everytime.
I feel like sending your kids to Catholic school is a great way to make them dislike Catholicism.

I love this kind of videos that just tell somebody's experience, it just relax me and in quarantine it's perfect. It's like someone's actually talking to me and caring enough to gave advices or tell histories, that is something that even my parents don't do so much. Feeling lonely and finding videos like this one is beautiful.

I love how he says “the priest’s little bitch” lmao my homies from back home used to be altar boys and when the priest is out of the convent, my bois snitch out some food came from donation and we’ll eat it right at the convent kitchen. We also drink the wine and the altar bread which tastes like “Obleas” without the caramel on it.
Ephemeral, I remember years years ago when I started watching your videos; I believe the first video I saw was your first comic book asmr video but Im not completely sure. I just remember watching your videos and you would always say how you wanted to make videos on a full time basis. You had a job at the time but you never told us what you did; for some reason I thought you did construction (don't ask me why) LOL.
I have been following you for years now and I even remember when you started featuring your little boy (probably not little anymore :D) every once in a while.
Anyway, its great to see that you have finally accomplished your dream of making this a full time job. I know this may sound cliche but there is nothing better than doing what you love and making a career out of it.
