Such a spectacular looking property Gareth! Your wife & kids would be over the moon. Don't think you'll need any new mango trees. My first choices to begin with would be jackfruit, cempedak, star apple, abiu, sapodilla, all the sapotes, lychee, longan, brazilian cherries and custard apple. Creepy crawlies are mostly geckos & harmless lizards. Fraser Coast is beautiful, drove up with the caravan in 2004. Enjoy your new garden life mate!

Thanks mate, I love you starting list. I've already got some more and the jackfruit is one. And I have a delivery from Daley's coming in. January. But the nursery down the road has some fantastic prices. Thanks again mate.

Living the dream, Beautiful property man. Keep all high humidity loving plants together. Water loving trees like jackfruit and jaboticaba at the lower or wettest part of your property, durian grow out in full sun and water well when it's small

At least the former owner had some edibles on the go... Regarding the mango, in my experience older trees do sometimes fruit well on alternate years. We use the frondy end of fallen palm leaves as the base for starting a new compost heap, to keep stuff off the ground and let the air through. They're a pain, but not totally useless!

Hi Kate, i'm hoping to have a massive compost pile soon, the palms are driving me crazy.

Try to suss out good producing lychee varieties in the area. I think bosworth and chompogo would do well.

I spent 30years in Queensland on acreage, after leaving South Australia.
We've just returned to STh. Aust, I've bought an acre property, I'm planning on turning it to a food forest too.
We spent 3 months homeless trying to get our place.
Don't be fooled by the green tree snakes, they can breed with the Eastern Browns, and be venomous. They usually are green with a brown stripe.

Great new property and channel name 😉 Looking forward to seeing your food forest go in over time. Once you’ve got your fruit and nut species in, don’t forget your understory perennial food crops (Yacon, Jerusalem Artichoke, Ground Cherries etc etc). Exciting!

Great stuff. Welcome to Queensland. Quite a challenge for you and your family to get here, but you did it. Harvey Bay is a great spot. Fraser Coast Food Forest is a good name. I think you really belong up here and will really love to grow a wider rage of fruit trees and plants. Beautiful shady block you have there, will be very cool and comfortable in summer. A shame to cut some trees and palms out, but you do need to do that if you want more fruit trees. It's a very nice block as is, but yes too shady for most fruit trees and food plants. A suggestion is don't be too fast to remove your Pythons, although it is a pity about your cat, cats can easily become python food. Although I have seen cats that grow up in snake infested areas and they can get really smart about snakes and cannot be caught. Also I've seen cats go 'toe to toe" with (smaller) deadly snakes, doing a kind of "cat kung fu" which is mind blowing to watch and will alert you to the danger as well. . . The good thing about pythons is when you have them around you will have less deadly snakes. You don't want any deadly snakes, get rid of them asap. I've always felt having deadly snakes in your garden is like having sharks in your swimming pool haha.. And pythons can get quite tame. Just don't step on them or they can give a nasty bite. You will get used to the different sounds from lizards and snakes after awhile. The lizards tend to rustle the leaves in short bursts of movement, whereas the snakes usually make a longer more flowing rustle in the leaves. As you get better at picking the sounds, that longer flowing rustle will be the sound that will put you on alert haha. Good luck Mate. Can't wait to see what you do there. Best regards 👍🙂

      @frasercoastfoodforest3092  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for the tips mate. I'm gonna keep anymore pythons I come across. I've been told by 3 more people the same thing. Cheers.

You are in a really nice area up there and you'll be amazed at how quickly things grow compared to Melbourne.
Looks like a nice property you've got too.
Watch out for those Copperheads, they can move scarily quick when they want to.
I'm so jealous having just moved to another suburban block here in Melbourne.
You still doing the Gardening business up there?

Welcome to QLD! It's not normal to have THAT many snakes, I suspect you have a food source attracting them to your property. Check if previous owner used food scraps as a compost in the ground attracting rodents.

G'day Tim, and thanks. I have found out the old owners treated them like pets, they feed the bush turkeys and we get a lot of rabbits.
