Lacerations is a gnarly wave! When I was there in 2010 a tourist got his leash caught on the reef and drowned. No one surfed the rest of the day out of respect for the guy. Next day I surfed Playgrounds and it was perfect 4ft. As soon as the tide turned the water started to drain and I spent 45 minutes trying to paddle into the cliffs. Had to stop at every parked boat on the way in to catch my breath after a 3 hour surf. I thought I was going to get sucked around to Ceningan Island. Shpwrecks was another heavy wave that I didn't attempt as it was 6ft+ :-D
That's a sad and heavy story! Good side of the lockdown that there are no surf tourist right now, who might surf above their level and skills in Indo..
Would surf here through the 80s and 90s. The early days you'd sometimes never see other surfers. Visas were 3 months and we would stay for weeks. Still go back every year but its changed so much.
Thanks so much David your ongoing support!🙏 I would love to film more outside Bali, but with the travel restrictions it's really impossible at the moment! Glad to be able to made it to Lembongan! I missed some rights!
i was in nusa lembongan back in 94, was dreamy, i scored crazy waves with cool folks, epic locals. the ferry ride almost killed us, pinche captain almost flipped the thing! what a place... neat to see it again.
rare to see video ….. Was on island and scored in October 1986 for 2 weeks, with only one other white person on island, of course an Ozzie….. Great memories thanks for the eye candy!
I love Raw Files. Please could you upload some footage of Playgrounds on a BIG day. Was there in 2000, upon arriving after Lombok-Sumbawa boat trip i was greeted by absolute flatness. A local at Bunga-Bungalow (does it still exist) who could barely string a sentence together mouthed 3 words while pointing out to Playgrounds: "3 o'clock, good wave". My brother and I, respectively, rolled our eyes at one another, "What's this guy thinking, not possible". We questioned him to which he replied the exact same words. Well, come almost the exact hour, 6 perfectly groomed 4-6ft peaks marched through catching everyone but one off guard. This lucky muppet dropped into a whopper of a pit that may not have lasted too long but it was impressive as ever since then having surfed the spot dozens of times on some mega swells, i've scarcely witnessed the left barreling as it did. With the water slide to the left, pontoon to the right and that big jetty-supertube thing that the Bali Hai tourist ferry used to dock on behind the break - all the elements for classic photos or cam footage. Needless to say, once those 6 setwaves passed through, Playgrounds nodded off back to sleep.
Haha that's a really cool story! This day we try to surf playgrounds but it was maxed out already by the time Lacerations started to work, around hightide. But I will be back to this lovely Island and will surf and film more the other spots too!
I just invested in a Mavic Air 2 and honestly it was the best investment i cloud do, its a great super trustable good quality Drone, the best for the price (around 1000 euro New, with 3 batterys and 4 ND filters included i think)
@@SurfRawFiles Yeah its a nice drone, I work for a drone company and have a commercial UAV pilot license although that's not my primary role in the company. We have a Mavic 2 Pro which is pretty much the same as the Air 2 except a bit bigger.
@@SurfRawFiles According to the comparisons I've read online the Air 2 is better anyway, really the only thing the 2 Pro has that the Air 2 doesn't have is adjustable aperture.
@@ST-tl3mv yeah long black hair and a moe ,skinny . He was known for getting out of sight in the tube because of the horseshoe reef there. @@martinwhite9691 What a shame way to young. We never actually got to surf lacerations together but in those days it was a small community so we all heard and knew about others that spent a fair bit of time on the island and yeah everyone knew he charged it, My mate and I ended starting up the Mainski Inn in the early days, used to love going there and being the only visitor on the island at times, very different place these days, they even have ice that doesnt come over on the outrigger hahahahah
Nice video - but what's the point of drawing a map to this island and mapping out all the spots and best tides? If you had any respect for the guys that surf there you'd be a bit more discreet.
Thanks Stephen for your feedback! As there is almost non existent surf or any kind of tourism on the Island right now, the locals are super happy to get some promotion I believe in.

What a session! And there was even a left there too 😉
