The show went downhill because they killed off too many main characters and replaced them with ones who are dull (Connie), way too dour (Yumiko), and just plain ridiculous (The Princess). Also, when the main group relocated from Georgia to Virginia is what also doomed the show as the cast ballooned enormously (as well as the number of different locales you had to keep track of).

I'm amazed the show is STILL GOING, but am so thankful it's coming to an end. I stopped caring like four or five seasons ago. And that's sad, considering I was a huge fan of the early seasons and saw every episode a bunch of times. But by a few seasons ago, I just did NOT care anymore. The show just became infuriating as it takes so much longer to kill off bad guys that should have been gone a season or two ago, and I don't even care about most of the characters anymore. I don't know who they are...and don't really care to. It really comes down to a show that should have been over several seasons ago, while it's painfully obvious that every last bit of the show is being milked out as it can, while throwing in as much campiness as possible inbetween. I can't even watch the show anymore, because it just frustrates me. I do a lot of fast forwarding on this show from the drama and the shitty female leadership trying to make it seem like if we were at the end of the world only tough women and pussy ass men would survive and it wouldn’t . And like you said after what happened at Terminus yeah right you see a threat kill a threat you don’t feed it jail it try to work something out you kill it
This show got really bad after dragging out the Negan stuff. One could argue when Glenn died it was a wrap. I really enjoyed the show up until the Terminus stuff. Season 1, the Farm, and the Prison were all LIT. Even just how the show was shot is so different from the earlier seasons. The pacing is godawful and they're trying to juggle too many characters that aren't fleshed out. Siddiq is a good example of this.
Spoilers! After Rick died there was no one to pick up his responsibilities. They’d already killed Carl for a guy who later died to a random we never see again. The show no longer has any leading characters except Negan, who’s clearly the only person who can save the twd. We need to see that cut throat energy in these newer seasons because it seems like all our main characters keep getting bullied.
Completely agree Dayrl and Maggie can not carry this show. we needed a new good main character. This show also lost all tension and suspense, no big characters die because there are not that many main characters

I can get through 6 seasons in a few hours if I fast forward through all the crying and the drama. I usually watch good episodes that I pluck from every season and then I’m done.

I would’ve released Negan while Michonne and other “leaders” were out and told him about the creepy skin people and gave in reign over Alexandria because his character is the only one capable and smart enough to handle that caliber of crazy. And he’s automatically someone people follow very scary very charismatic putting him in charge and having a few inside Alexandrians orchestrating the takeover would’ve been a great twist
They should have just named the show “apocalypse wars” instead of the walking dead. It’s just a bunch of people fighting other people with the occasional zombie killing. I’d rather watch Z nation, which is sad considering that’s a horror/comedy zombie show.
I lost all interest in TWD, I'm most likely not even going to bother finishing it. AMC stuck their hands in and ruined it from season 2 onwards, they doubled the amount of episodes per season, halved the budget and fired Frank Darabont. Fuck AMC.

It was honestly only good for about three seasons and it was only one of the best shows on TV for about two of those. Like most TV shows, they didn't end it soon enough and they let it slowly suffocate to death.

I stopped watching when the governor died, I just loved him. Season 1 and 3, and the 2 episodes of governor in season 4. Frank darabont would've carried the show. Would've wanted to see more of Sam witwer, merle and Ofc the governor.
How about the awful writing and dialogue, post Rick's departure? The new characters they introduced... their acting is- as the great Patrice O'neal would say- just *shocking* I got to the scene where they were introducing themselves to the council or whatever. The kid with the deaf chick, holy s it felt like I was watching a different show altogether, one of those old generic TV shows written by amateur Hollywood writers. "I used to be a teacher. Now I'm a fighter." Are ya? 🙄 . Great. TWD has regressed to expositional dialogue. The fat teacher having that unearned crying scene, accompanied by somber tonality in the shot, like we as the audience were supposed to give a f about these characters that just got introduced 5 min ago. I tried to give the newer seasons a chance, but I just can't. RIP TWD. The show ended for me after Carl's death. In my head canon, the episode where Rick cuts Negan's throat is the show finale.
The show ends there for me as well. It’s basically an entirely new show after the time skip, and it’s much worse. Unlike able character and horrible writing.

But the show is still doing great and has a huge fanbase and viewership so the series isn't dead yet at all, especially with season 10, which is the highest rated season of the series, and the writing for the story and characters has gotten much better since then and I do think that Daryl is a good lead in the show now in my opinion, his dialogue and writing in general has been so much better and he actually has things to do and say again. Whether you want to give the rest of the series a chance again or not is totally up to you and valid either way, though. I just want to let you know that it does get better and that I would recommend it :)

Yup it’s the same cycle, when this happens it’s because greed and corruption always drags down shows, more and more people want a cut into the show, compromised scripts that hurts the show just to get people what they want from the show (cash cow gold laying hen), it’s literally like what happens in the show happening in real life to the show itself, corruption and greed overpowering common sense and show value, no one cares about the show anymore after the main characters get written out, compounding the fact that it’s not even about adventures of zombie apocalypse survival anymore it’s just another run of the mill soap opera that has zombies as wallpaper, I can’t believe at first I thought the show was canceled then I decided to go back and rewatch the awesome seasons, and that when I realized the dead show was still ongoing, I had thought it had ended a bit after season 6 cause no way would it live on for another 6 seasons at least be cause of how lame it turned into, but apparently amc picked it up and it became other peoples pet projects and turned the show into a real zombie of a horrible jelly bean soap opera, wish the show would have ended in grace instead of the monstrosity it has now become.

The Walking dead converted me to anime full time, and by the time i couldn’t stand twd, i was inlove with attack on titan. So far the Japanese haven’t been infected with the woke rreeeealy bad bad bad writing so prevalent in any mainstream western show.

Idk why people bitch about the amount of zombies not shown in certain episodes. The damn show was never about them....nor the comics. I really appreciate your comment and your correct. My problem is I do not want or care about the depth given to these characters. They were side characters who did nothing for seasons and now that all the main cast are gone we are suppose to just care about them. The storylines also given to them are pretty boring. I’m really not a fan of anything they did with Gabriel, it’s the same “kill everything” or “do not kill anymore” except with a religious angel. I like Aaron but the only relationship he has going rn is between him and his daughter, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them on screen together

I liked and agreed with most of the points you made in the video except for your take on Rosita and Eugene. I liked the fact that Rosita hooked up with Spencer. A character that we were all supposed to dislike. An ass who was clearly beneath her. There was a method to that choice by the writers. It's not by accident that we have an instinctual disdain for Spencer. He was written that way, and it's not an accident that she stooped down to sleeping with him. This was to illustrate the ill effects of how Abraham treated her, and his subsequent murder, before she could even come to terms with the callous way he left her. One bad thing after another, then worse. The emotional torture of the guy she loved or still loved who didn't love him, being brutally killed. Is she happy about his death, or not? Does she want revenge? Well even if she did she can't have it. Negan is out of her reach. Is her desire for revenge even her right? He didn't love her. He love someone else (Sasha.) She was a mess, and rightly so. I mean the writers could've gone the other way and just made her more "badass" from the get go as you put it. But I think that would be a copout- and would've made her less compelling; Bordering on some Rey from Star Wars- Mary Sue sht, where her "adversity" is an automatic level up and just makes her stronger without even going through the struggle of the lows. It's important seeing characters at their low points. Exploring their weaknesses. It makes them more relatable and more human. With Eugen- you're right. It is within his character to willingly go with Negan. Self preservation is the core of his character. But I liked that the added perks of luxury in living as a Saviour seduced him. That's also very human. His inner struggle is his sense of loyalty and kinship towards his old friends. And of course they explored that dynamic throughout the season.
Your 100% correct, I actually had no problem with her and Spencer I actually thought they were a good couple. The problem was everything after the time skip for a while her character was just whos she sleeping with tn. Your also correct about Eugene, this is obviously what the script was trying to get across. I think I had more problem in the execution, I really dislike season 7 I found the dialogue and directing of this season extremely tedious, I’ve never seen a show stretch out story’s and stroke it’s own ego so hard

I thought you were specifically talking about Spencer. Nor would I have known about it too though, as I just couldn't get past the first 20 min or so mark of the episode after Rick's "death." I don't know if it's a coincidence that I just started seeing the bad dialogue. Or that the switch up in writing/writers happened when Andrew Lincoln left, but man the change was night and day for me between those two episodes. Characters suddenly conversed and interacted with each other in those early 2000's police procedural tv show fashion lol. Or even more accurately- like those shty CW tv shows ew 😖 (especially the new characters.) For sure, Season 7 dragged on and on. But the dialogue didn't really bother me tbh. The direction maybe- the fact that they stretched out the setup arc well past the payoff. By the time the conclusion in late season 8 to early season 9 came, everyone was just fatigued with The Saviors. Although it is odd. On paper the show runners did all the right things. The concepts all made sense. Rick's lapse in judgement in surrendering to the seemingly insurmountable foe that is Negan, with the weight of being the leader and the one responsible for the safety of his people. Maggie's obsession with revenge, and her evolution into being a leader herself. The breaking of Daryl when he was taken prisoner. Morgan fighting his inner demons, and trying to map on his newfound philosophy of pacifism onto a world that doesn't seem to fit it. And the inverse with Carol's own conflict. Etc. But as you said, it was just poorly executed. You really thought Rosita and Spencer made a good couple? I thought they were a terrible couple haha. But I understand that, that was the correct direction to take her character in. So I liked it in that way. But in terms of chemistry, I thought her character was way too good for a ratty one like Spencer 😆
Negan is the only character with any personality. Maggie was a great character left the show and came back with no personality. She is going to weigh down the show a lot
The show got more and more dramatic as time went on which makes no sense. Season the concept of the skin people was amazing and scary and they should’ve drawn out that plot a lot longer but they did what every shove does which is go woke and make some fake world ruled by mostly women and black people which is unrealistic cause we are living through the rise of women and black leople and all they do is ruin everything and get people killed. The second they ran into the skins and realized what they were up against I would’ve gotten Negan out of jail and put him in charge he’d probably be the only one that could give those people a run for their money. And all these orphaned kids calling other people mom and dad what a joke. And rosita banging a priest and a doctor and getting pregnant and no anger no outage just some casual conversation what a joke
The show went from survival of the fittest to a high school teen drama with goofy guys and strong females. Nobody needs skills or training anymore, every 90lb disabled person can just go head to head and win against anyone they want.
Yes 100%. The kid actor for Judith is really good and she has good chemistry with most of the cast. I love carol in the first couple of seasons but Chandler Riggs got too old and his acting got worse and worse. I would of preferred carol all the way through like the comics but I think what they did with Judith works better for the tv show

And that's sad, considering I was a huge fan of the early seasons and saw every episode a bunch of times. But by a few seasons ago, I just did NOT care anymore. The show just became infuriating as it takes so much longer to kill off bad guys that should have been gone a season or two ago, and I don't even care about most of the characters anymore. I don't know who they are...and don't really care to. It really comes down to a show that should have been over several seasons ago, while it's painfully obvious that every last bit of the show is being milked out as it can, while throwing in as much campiness as possible inbetween. I can't even watch the show anymore, because it just frustrates me. All this pointless arguing and standoffs with bad guys that result in nothing - GOD DAMN IT, IF YOU'RE GOING TO KILL THEM, FUCKING KILL THEM AND GET IT OVER WITH AND DON'T TAKE THREE SEASONS TO DO IT. JESUS CHRIST. Ugh. And then the show is just so...so fucking boring everywhere else inbetween. What are these characters talking about? Who are they? Why do I care about them and their drama? I do a lot of fast forwarding on this show from the drama and the shitty female leadership trying to make it seem like if we were at the end of the world only tough women and pussy ass men would survive and it wouldn’t . And like you said after what happened at Terminus yeah right you see a threat kill a threat you don’t feed it jail it try to work something out you kill it
This show got really bad after dragging out the Negan stuff. One could argue when Glenn died it was a wrap. I really enjoyed the show up until the Terminus stuff. Season 1, the Farm, and the Prison were all LIT. Even just how the show was shot is so different from the earlier seasons. The pacing is godawful and they're trying to juggle too many characters that aren't fleshed out. Siddiq is a good example of this.

After Rick died there was no one to pick up his responsibilities. They’d already killed Carl for a guy who later died to a random we never see again. The show no longer has any leading characters except Negan, who’s clearly the only person who can save the twd. We need to see that cut throat energy in these newer seasons because it seems like all our main characters keep getting bullied.

It was honestly only good for about three seasons and it was only one of the best shows on TV for about two of those. Like most TV shows, they didn't end it soon enough and they let it slowly suffocate to death.

I get where you're coming from, I personally liked season 9-11, especially season 9 and 10, they're some of my favourite seasons, but it's such a shame that the show took such a big nose-dive in season 7-8 and that many people left after that, thanks to Gimple's writing and decision making.
But the show is still doing great and has a huge fanbase and viewership so the series isn't dead yet at all, especially with season 10, which is the highest rated season of the series, and the writing for the story and characters has gotten much better since then and I do think that Daryl is a good lead in the show now in my opinion, his dialogue and writing in general has been so much better and he actually has things to do and say again.
Whether you want to give the rest of the series a chance again or not is totally up to you and valid either way, though. I just want to let you know that it does get better and that I would recommend it :)

Yup it’s the same cycle, when this happens it’s because greed and corruption always drags down shows, more and more people want a cut into the show, compromised scripts that hurts the show just to get people what they want from the show (cash cow gold laying hen), it’s literally like what happens in the show happening in real life to the show itself, corruption and greed overpowering common sense and show value, no one cares about the show anymore after the main characters get written out, compounding the fact that it’s not even about adventures of zombie apocalypse survival anymore it’s just another run of the mill soap opera that has zombies as wallpaper, I can’t believe at first I thought the show was canceled then I decided to go back and rewatch the awesome seasons, and that when I realized the dead show was still ongoing, I had thought it had ended a bit after season 6 cause no way would it live on for another 6 seasons at least be cause of how lame it turned into, but apparently amc picked it up and it became other peoples pet projects and turned the show into a real zombie of a horrible jelly bean soap opera, wish the show would have ended in grace instead of the monstrosity it has now become.
Sad but but true, AMC has milked this property to the point of absurdity. I would be very surprised if anyone tunes into any of these spin offs

And wtf is up with Michonne whispering in these final seasons to seem more dramatic. How is it possible for someone to become a worse actor as time goes on. She was so great in season 3 and 4 and now her character is flat and dramatic she’s like a female Christian bale back when he always whispered in everything for dramatic affect
I think it’s a mix of her not giving and shit and the writes completely misunderstanding her character. She was never one to give big speeches, and her dialogue was horrible

I must have stopped watching before those dudes showed up but yeah like all zombie related films the best parts of them focus on a single small group or maybe two and they all are great when they follow the same story arc which TWD had from seasons 1-3 i.e. inexperienced individuals trying to simply survive, individual inexperienced survivors link up with other survivors, the newly formed group finds safe haven, the group becomes more badass, and than that safe haven is taken out and that’s basically how those films end but nooooo TWD stayed on for another decade.

I really appreciate your comment and your correct. My problem is I do not want or care about the depth given to these characters. They were side characters who did nothing for seasons and now that all the main cast are gone we are suppose to just care about them. The storylines also given to them are pretty boring. I’m really not a fan of anything they did with Gabriel, it’s the same “kill everything” or “do not kill anymore” except with a religious angel. I like Aaron but the only relationship he has going rn is between him and his daughter, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them on screen together

I liked and agreed with most of the points you made in the video except for your take on Rosita and Eugene. I liked the fact that Rosita hooked up with Spencer. A character that we were all supposed to dislike. An ass who was clearly beneath her. There was a method to that choice by the writers. It's not by accident that we have an instinctual disdain for Spencer. He was written that way, and it's not an accident that she stooped down to sleeping with him. This was to illustrate the ill effects of how Abraham treated her, and his subsequent murder, before she could even come to terms with the callous way he left her. One bad thing after another, then worse. The emotional torture of the guy she loved or still loved who didn't love him, being brutally killed. Is she happy about his death, or not? Does she want revenge? Well even if she did she can't have it. Negan is out of her reach. Is her desire for revenge even her right? He didn't love her. He love someone else (Sasha.) She was a mess, and rightly so. I mean the writers could've gone the other way and just made her more "badass" from the get go as you put it. But I think that would be a copout- and would've made her less compelling; Bordering on some Rey from Star Wars- Mary Sue sht, where her "adversity" is an automatic level up and just makes her stronger without even going through the struggle of the lows. It's important seeing characters at their low points. Exploring their weaknesses. It makes them more relatable and more human.
With Eugen- you're right. It is within his character to willingly go with Negan. Self preservation is the core of his character. But I liked that the added perks of luxury in living as a Saviour seduced him. That's also very human. His inner struggle is his sense of loyalty and kinship towards his old friends. And of course they explored that dynamic throughout the season.
Your 100% correct, I actually had no problem with her and Spencer I actually thought they were a good couple. The problem was everything after the time skip for a while her character was just whos she sleeping with tn.
Your also correct about Eugene, this is obviously what the script was trying to get across. I think I had more problem in the execution, I really dislike season 7 I found the dialogue and directing of this season extremely tedious, I’ve never seen a show stretch out story’s and stroke it’s own ego so hard

I thought you were specifically talking about Spencer. Nor would I have known about it too though, as I just couldn't get past the first 20 min or so mark of the episode after Rick's "death." I don't know if it's a coincidence that I just started seeing the bad dialogue. Or that the switch up in writing/writers happened when Andrew Lincoln left, but man the change was night and day for me between those two episodes. Characters suddenly conversed and interacted with each other in those early 2000's police procedural tv show fashion lol. Or even more accurately- like those shty CW tv shows ew 😖 (especially the new characters.)
For sure, Season 7 dragged on and on. But the dialogue didn't really bother me tbh. The direction maybe- the fact that they stretched out the setup arc well past the payoff. By the time the conclusion in late season 8 to early season 9 came, everyone was just fatigued with The Saviors.
Although it is odd. On paper the show runners did all the right things. The concepts all made sense. Rick's lapse in judgement in surrendering to the seemingly insurmountable foe that is Negan, with the weight of being the leader and the one responsible for the safety of his people. Maggie's obsession with revenge, and her evolution into being a leader herself. The breaking of Daryl when he was taken prisoner. Morgan fighting his inner demons, and trying to map on his newfound philosophy of pacifism onto a world that doesn't seem to fit it. And the inverse with Carol's own conflict. Etc. But as you said, it was just poorly executed.

The show went from survival of the fittest to a high school teen drama with goofy guys and strong females. Nobody needs skills or training anymore, every 90lb disabled person can just go head to head and win against anyone they want.

Yes 100%. The kid actor for Judith is really good and she has good chemistry with most of the cast. I love carol in the first couple of seasons but Chandler Riggs got too old and his acting got worse and worse. I would of preferred carol all the way through like the comics but I think what they did with Judith works better for the tv show
