Nowadays this work is overshadowed by the Ninth symphony, but IMHO the Missa solemnis is by far the more profound and serious work. I can't even listen to op 125 after listening to the Missa; in such close proximity it sounds like so much noise and clatter. Like having a sumptuous dinner, then having a Pop-Tart for dessert.
@@jasonhurd4379 The Mass and the Symphony are two different masterworks. I agree with you: the Missa is severely underrated but the two compositions have different purposes, so in my opinion it is useless to oppose and classify them. They belong to two different categories, each having criteria of its own. This appears more "reasonable" to me.
