I drove the Golden road in October this year during a spell of warm, sunny weather. The car park was rammed, & there was a wedding taking place on the hill to the right of the beach. The haar was coming & going, adding to the atmosphere. It was unforgettable.
Aye.. The golden beaches, the blues of the sea and that slate grey/black sky - quite fabulous. Give me the islands anyday. I forgot to mention from one of your earlier vlogs that I have a tale to tell about Taransay.. My experience of the Golden Rd was "turn back, you'll not get through cos of the ice" from a postman who'd already tried and failed... Finally, and importantly - Mrs W's Welly boots looked magnificent - please pass on my compliments 😊
The service bus used to visit the church as part of a tour, the pictures with your wife and dog and the dog on its own were my favourites. I'm struggling to catch up at the moment but really enjoying the videos. Cheers 👍.
Made it to Lewis & Harris this June, we were literally chasing any break in the clouds most days! Had about an hour of sun at Luskentrye, and wow, when that sun hits that beach the sand and sea light up like I’ve never experienced anywhere! Hushinish is also a nice little beach to visit with amazing machair nearby. Enjoying this series Murray, thank you!
Been watching your vlogs for a few months now. Enjoy all your videos. These last few days have spoiled us…a vlog every day! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
Heyup Muzza 💥 😊, Given the foggy clag in this film we're not surprised to hear the Clan Mcloudies ran the show oot there😮. Another fantastic film old chap. And those photographs nr the end were pin sharp tbf Great stuff 🤲😁👍
😂lovely trip this one. Loved that you took us round the church I'm one for doing this so much history there.Shame weather was so murky but it didn't spoil a thing. Beach was lovely and the dogs enjoyed themselves. Stunning. ATB.
Even in the gloom those beaches look stunning, so gold only knows what they are going to be like in the glorious sunshine. I suppose only one way to find out and stay tuned for the next one. Loved the old church, we are fascinated by old churches and the history of them.
Im really enjoying these videos Murray. Those amazing dark skies a strip of turquoise and white sand, perfect. I'd be like Leanne shoes off. Lexi having a good run. Thanks again.....Alioban 💖🐕🐕
Hi, the golden road, what memories it brought back to me seeing it again. About 5 years ago I decided to try it out as like you, I was on holiday but touring in my Campervan with my daughter, and driving it was filling me with expectations! Beautiful rugged rocky bays and nice wee crofts. However I was stopped in my tracks by a rather large vehicle ( LGV lorry) with a load of fish/shellfish going to market/for export coming towards me with speed. ( the driver must be used to driving that narrow single track road). I did manage to find a passing place as he flew bye. It was an experience that I had not expected but it definitely makes you a better driver after gaining that experience. ( I was used to small single track roads living in Scotland ( most roads over moors and in quieter rural areas tended to be narrow single tracks) but not used to meeting such large vehicles on them, and I come from a family history of lorry drivers/ transport managers. So, appreciate those LGV drivers that deliver your goods everywhere in any conditions/ roads🫣😄😀 Enjoying the vlogs Murray, keep them coming!👍
Thanks Carol - yep the roads like the golden road need 100% concentration 😂😂 got about 4 videos left in the series now :) hope you enjoy them Thanks for watching
Those beaches are so beautiful! Have been to Harris and drove the Golden Road on a beautiful October day. It is such a bare landscape with superb views when the sun shines. Glad you enjoyed your travels there. Cheers.
@ScotlandsMountains fantastic i look forward to seeing it , you're skye / Harris videos have been a joy to watch, thank you for sharing them 🏴💚🏴
Best beach in Scotland imo, next to the Sandwood Bay beach. In the evening, during summer I was collecting starfish there. Never knew they glow in the dark just like in the Avatar movie. Magical place. I do recommend climing the nearby hill, views are epic🫶
The beaches around the Outer Hebrides are incredible. Had the pleasure of touring around them with my wife and daughters. BBQing on them at 10pm with a beer and a glass of wine, superb. I'm sure my girls will cast their minds back to those trips in years to come and realise how fortunate we all were to have been there. And to be fair the NC500 beaches at Clachtoll and Durness are incredible also. North West coast of Scotland really is very special indeed.Luskentyre and Scurrival on Barra are probably the two best beaches ive ever seen. Great video, Merry Xmas and all the best for 2025 sir.
Though the vision may be reduced, the visa’s are impressive, and capture something of the ancient weather conditions of those parts. The beach has a raw power about it and ideal for folk that appreciate that over distractions.
Hi Murray great how you make horrible weather interesting, your pictures of Luskentyre beach are superb, looking forward to more of your amazing adventures, take care.👍
I cycled the Golden Road back in May as part of my Outer Hebrides adventure, and the weather was much kinder for me. The views certainly didn’t disappoint although I did miss the opportunity to visit those beaches which you have showcased. Harris is the standout island of the Outer Hebrides and I will return. As always, thanks for sharing.
Got ferry from Bernaray - cycled that with a friend, cafe at Geocrab, nice big hill climb at end up to Tarbert rd JCT. We carried on around to the famous beach, then west side, back to Levensburgh (lovely views out to Taransay) Made a fantastic circuit & the weather was fine and sunny. Hope you get back to enjoy.
It seems like every Sandy beach in Lewis and Harris is a winner. Just glorious. What an experience to be there in person. I’m glad that the forecast is looking up. Cheers, and ATB!
The irony of it being called the Golden Road when visibility was so low lol. I really appreciate you stopping at the church, I love visiting old stone buildings built hundreds of years ago and soaking up the feeling when inside. Wow you got some fantastic shots and Luskentyre beach, and the silence of it except for the turquois crashing waves, beauty overload. Thanks as always Murray! 👋
I just got a gopro now looking at a decent camera I'm like you now everything I see I'm working out aspects for a nice pic or 3 😂just adds another aspect to walks and hikes great vid lovely winter beach very moody for pics
The sound of the waves completes the whole experience. I'd imagine the water is a bit nippy in the summer . But it looks a bit shallow for a bit so it may not be too shocking until you go out further Well done 🇨🇦❤️
The Golden Road is amazing in good weather. And there is a wonderful Harris Tweed centre which may not have been open at the time of year you were there. It was set up by a woman whose mother was a traditional weaver and on my first visit to Harris we had the privilege of visiting mum at work in her weaving shed 🥰
Thank you for the video. I think I have found a place to go camping/lodging next Spring/Summer, just myself and the dog. I was in Lewis in April this year for 3 days, around a place called Aird, such a laid back experience. I didn't travel down to the Harris end of the island, the beaches look awesome, so I think it's on the cards, thank you
I enjoy driving round the golden road! (although friends that I took round may disagree!) Think that side of Harris was used in a movie as it resembled the moon. Can't remember which film it was! Yes Luskentyre is amazing beach, have taken loads of photos there! On my first visit to Harris (about 20 years ago and there was a tourist shop in Tarbert) I was recommended by them to drive to Huisinis. Lovely beach there but there's a more amazing beach taking a walk by the cliff that leads you to a beach that's opposite the island of Scarp, famous for the rocket post attempt. Well worth the 13 mile single track roller coaster road! I'm really enjoying your videos and photos of Harris, can't wait until my next visit. (Not done Clisham yet but done quite a few of the other walks!)
Gutted 😂 you were a day off an inversion for the Corbett. Darnit 😂😂. We got the views down the golden road. Just 😂 waited till 5pm for it to clear then did the drive. That mist was a nightmare 😂 luskintyre one of my best wild swims ever 😱😱😱😱 the best. Lovely drone shots 🙏
I managed to get above the clouds in the following days ;) #staytuned 😂 a wonderful place. To swim too - again - I may take a dook in an upcoming video ! lol 😂
You should have climbed to the top of the dunes....at the back there are absolutely giant sand dunes which are reminiscent of a moon landscape.....plus the views from the top out to the sea and across the bays are spectacular.......im from lewis in tue north of the island....i take my dpgs down there quite regular for walks.....its beautiful in any weather.....also the beach across from it called seilebost is stunning, again the views are spectacular
Pity you did not get the views on the Golden road as it is a dramatic road. I think driving your van would be a challenge as I found driving in a saloon car was difficult but very memorable. Great photographs. Makes me want to go back but hauling a caravan on these roads would be difficult and the sites I believe are more campervan friendly. Once again thoroughly enjoyed the video.
Yeah - fortunate had a few days left and we get to see the golden road (almost) in perfect condition (spoiler alert !) stay tuned - the weather takes a turn from tomorrows video ! :) Hope you can Tune in :) Thanks for watching M
How can this be one of the best beaches in the world? There are no rollercoasters, no beach bars, nobody razzing about on a jet-ski. No donkeys. No screaming kids. No crowds. No overpriced sunbeds.... I've answered my own question, haven't I?
Really enjoying the daily updates especially in this dull, grey Christmas period 👌 One thing bugging me though, what brand/model is your backpack that you've been using on this trip? 🙈
Really good video, but the Golden Rd isn't actually as long as a lot of people think. The Golden Rd runs from Meavag T-junction to Groesbay T-junction. The rest of the Rd south is just the Bays Rd.
Luskentyre beach is OK......not my favourite by any means though, mainly because its so busy in the summer! Seilebost and Scarista are probably my favourites 😊
I drove the Golden road in October this year during a spell of warm, sunny weather. The car park was rammed, & there was a wedding taking place on the hill to the right of the beach. The haar was coming & going, adding to the atmosphere. It was unforgettable.
It’s a wonderful place :) not a bad spot to get married !

Something magical and pure about untouched landscapes, it's like another world and so beautiful.
It certainly is - no where else like it :)
The service bus used to visit the church as part of a tour, the pictures with your wife and dog and the dog on its own were my favourites. I'm struggling to catch up at the moment but really enjoying the videos. Cheers 👍.
We stay on the Gold Road 3 times a year. It’s a cracking area of the island. Great video as always. Love to the family.

Astonishing footage Murray. Those drone shots are amazing. What a place indeed 😊
Great shots! Stunning beaches up there. My personal favourite is west beach on Berneray❤
So many stunning beaches in Scotland.
Cracking vid Murray

Luskentyre / Huisinis beaches are 👌👌👌👌
Thanks for the video Murray, very interesting to see the islands in Scotland 😍

Great beach images. I'm glad the cloud lifted a bit for you.
Wonderful Murray. 👌
Chefs kiss.
Looks amazing, so much space and so unspoilt and natural. What a great break for the family too

Such an amazing place - cannot wait to go back :)
Really stunning beaches, great photos Murray.
I have been on the golden road and it was brilliant. Love it.
Harris takes scenery and beaches to the next level , you need to go to hushinish and Crabhadail beaches 🏴💚🏴
We managed to experience it a few days later #spoileralert ;)
@ScotlandsMountains fantastic i look forward to seeing it , you're skye / Harris videos have been a joy to watch, thank you for sharing them 🏴💚🏴

Would be an awesome road to cycle (I had planned to do this but my bike was broken !! - might have taken me longer than expected tho !! 😂😂

It certainly was - not a bad place to be in any weather :) can’t wait to return to Harris :)
Ohh wow 😮 all my heritage is from here but I’ve never been so thanks for this I will get there someday ❤
You are certainly visiting a beautiful part of the world.

Harris beaches are stunning 🤩 but Luskentyre is the best of them all IMHO 👍
Fabulous beach views 💙

lovely trip around in the murky weather, lovely!! glad you get to see some sun for the photos! happy new year to you x
Fantastic video and location 🌊
So many fantastic beaches in beautiful Scotland, I like Arisaig myself but totally different to them long sweeping beaches
A fantastic beach !

Thanks Murray, brings back good memories.
There's some nice wild country in SW Lewis in a quiet area called Uig, if you get chance. ATB
Will need to go back for more exploring:)
Another great video Murray.
The church was interesting.
The two beaches were spectacular albeit there were grey clouds.
Well done.
these are the best shots of scotland

Great videos watching over Xmas 🎉 thks M ☘️
Thanks Merky - a few more to go and the weather goes rather unseasonable (well for Xmas videos anyways !! Lol

Nice one Murray. What time of year was this?
hi - twas September
Plenty of sand @ Luskintyre beach .
Lovely beach but seilebost beach and niosaboist beach at horgabost are better. Huisinish is also a lovely area.
Amazing beaches on Harris - we spend two days on Niosaboist ina. Few videos time - another amazing beach :)
Footage…boom boom😂
Luskentyre beach is OK......not my favourite by any means though, mainly because its so busy in the summer! Seilebost and Scarista are probably my favourites 😊
I think we agree on this one ☝️ 👌👍
Like Scarista more !
Fingers crossed 🤞 doesn't mean anything

It's callee the golden road cos of all the money that they sunk into it
