I wouldn't have called them competition. Boeing and Airbus specialize in larger medium and wide body aircraft. Bombardier and Embraer specialized in small private and narrow body aircraft. Different markets of the plane building industry
They need each other for motivation. The disappearance of any of them would result in a gradual degradation of the quality of the other and (after a very short term of higher revenues) collapsing the business. Not to mention out safety & ticket prices.

The MCAS-related crashes are best attributed to a failure in pilot training. Pilots that were paying attention during the MCAS training and actually learned how this is different than any non-MAX 737 have never had a problem. It's the ones who snored through MCAS training that have had problems and crashed two planes. Boeing's response has been to issue a software fix that gives more fault tolerance in the system even if you have a pilot that slept through MCAS training. So it's a fix that compensates for poor pilot training, which is always the fault of the airline doing the pilot training, and not Boeing.
Congrats Airbus. On your wonderful journey. You and Boeing were always the king and queen of the skies both trying to dominate each other. I am a Boeing fan but still because of your competition Boeings growth stabilized. Once again congratulations Airbus

Having a competition of two big manufacturers is a good thing. This tends to push innovation. Sometimes Airbus will be in front, sometimes it will be Boeing, but at the end, the A/C get lighter, safer. I wish the best to Boeing for the recovery of the 737Max.
Not very practical. That means all your pilots can only fly one of those types at any one time. There’s a reason airlines by for example the A319/20/21 together. Pilot can fly all 3 with little/no extra training
I’m not a big fan of narrow bodied planes, as short haul flights don’t really matter, but on long hauls I prefer the B777 because of the GE-90 engines, although I am really impressed with the A350 for its comfort, elegance and size, can’t really see the 787 competing with it, it’s time for Boeing to upgrade their 777s
