President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. holds a bilateral meeting with President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea (ROK) on the sidelines of the 24th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - ROK Summit at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 7, 2023.
Among the agenda topics include discussions on new areas of cooperation between the two countries.
The President expresses his gratitude to the ROK for its generous donation of USD300,000 for recovery assistance in the aftermath of Typhoon Egay (International name: Doksuri), as well as its plans to donate 750 metric tons of rice to the Philippines through the ASEAN Plus Three Rice Reserve Arrangement.
Prior to their meeting, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual had an initial discussion with South Korea’s Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy Ahn Duk-Geun, regarding the Philippine-ROK bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) during the 55th ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting in Semarang, Indonesia in August 2023.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and ROK.
